Safety, performance, and dependability have been given
top priority in the design of your petrol lawn mower.
INTENDED USE
The petrol lawn mower is only intended for use outdoors.
The product is designed for domestic lawn mowing. The
cutting blade should rotate approximately parallel to the
ground over which it is being wheeled. All four wheels
should touch the ground while mowing.
The product is a pedestrian-controlled, walk-behind mower
designed to be pushed by hand, or be guided by the
operator when using the self-propel feature.
The product should never be operated with the wheels off
the ground. It should not be pulled or ridden on. It should
not be used to cut anything other than domestic grass
lawns.
Do not use the product for any other purpose.
GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING
When using the product, the safety rules must be
followed. For your own safety and that of bystanders,
please read these instructions before operating the
product. Please keep the instructions safe for later use.
WARNING
To avoid serious personal injury, do not attempt
to use the product until you read thoroughly and
understand completely the operator’s manual. If you
do not understand the warnings and instructions in
the operator’s manual, do not use this product. Call an
authorised service centre for assistance.
PERSONAL SAFETY
ŶThe product is capable of amputating hands and feet,
and of throwing objects. Failure to observe all safety
instructions could result in serious injury or death.
ŶBe familiar with the controls and the correct use of the
product.
ŶEnsure before each use that all controls and safety
devices function correctly. Do not use the product if the
off switch does not stop the engine.
ŶNever allow children or people with reduced physical,
sensory, or mental capabilities or persons not familiar
with these instructions to operate, clean, or maintain the
product. Local regulations may restrict the age of the
operator. Children should be adequately supervised to
ensure they do not play with the product.
ŶStay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common
sense when operating the product. Do not operate the
product when you are tired, ill, or under the influence of
drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention
while operating the product may result in serious
personal injury.
ŶWear heavy, long trousers, long sleeves, and sturdy
anti-slip footwear. Do not wear short trousers, sandals,
or go barefoot. Avoid wearing clothing that is loose
fitting or that has hanging cords or ties.
ŶAlways wear safety glasses with side shields.
ŶWear hearing protection and safety glasses at all
times while operating the product. Use a face mask if
operation is dusty.
ŶUse of hearing protection reduces the ability to hear
warnings (shouts or alarms). The operator must pay
extra attention to what is going on in the work area.
ŶOperating similar tools nearby increases both the risk
of hearing injury and the potential for other persons to
enter your work area.
ŶAlways be sure of your footing, especially on slopes.
Keep firm footing and balance. Do not overreach.
Overreaching can result in loss of balance.
ŶUse the product across the face of slopes, never up
and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing
direction on slopes.
ŶDo not use the product near drop-offs, ditches,
excessively steep slopes, or embankments. Poor
footing could cause a slip-and-fall accident.
ŶPlan your mowing pattern to avoid discharge of material
towards roads, public pavements, bystanders and
the like. Avoid discharging material against a wall or
obstruction, which may cause the material to ricochet
towards the operator.
WORK AREA SAFETY
ŶNever use product while people, especially children, or
pets are within 15 m because of the danger of objects
being thrown by contact with the blade.
ŶObjects struck by the lawn mower blade can cause
severe injuries to persons. Thoroughly inspect the area
where the product is to be used and remove all rocks,
sticks, metal, wire, bones, toys, or other foreign objects.
Remember, string or wire may entangle with the cutting
means.
ŶAlways use the product in the daylight or in good
artificial light. The operator requires a clear view of the
work area to identify potential hazards.
ŶDo not operate the product in explosive atmospheres,
such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or
dust. The product creates sparks which may ignite the
dust or fumes.
ŶDo not operate the product on wet grass or in the rain.
ŶDo not use the product when there is a risk of lightning.
ŶKeep in mind that the operator or user is responsible
for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or
their property.
ŶTragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to
the presence of children. Children are often attracted to

the product and the mowing activity. Never assume that
children will remain where you last saw them.
ŶKeep children out of the mowing area and under the
watchful care of a responsible adult other than the
operator, be alert and turn the product off if a child
enters the area.
ŶUse extra care when approaching blind corners,
shrubs, trees, or other objects including overhanging
shrubs, which may block your view.
ŶKeep work area clean. Cluttered or dark areas invite
accidents.
LAWN MOWER SAFETY WARNINGS
ŶBefore use, always visually inspect to ensure blades,
blade bolts, and cutter assembly are not worn or
damaged.
ŶReplace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to
preserve balance.
ŶNever operate the mower if the operator presence
control, when released, does not stop the engine.
ŶDo not operate the product without the entire grass
catcher or the guard of the self-closing discharge
opening in place.
ŶThe blade on the product is sharp. Use extreme caution
and wear heavy-duty gloves when fitting, replacing,
cleaning or checking bolt security.
ŶBring the product to an authorised service centre to
replace damaged or unreadable labels.
ŶCheck all nuts, bolts, and screws at frequent intervals
for proper tightness to be sure that the product is in safe
working condition.
ŶCheck the grass catcher frequently for wear, holes,
or deterioration. This can cause objects to be thrown
towards the operator.
ŶReplace worn or damaged parts before operating the
product.
ŶSwitch on the engine carefully with the user behind the
handlebars in the operator safety zone. Never start the
product if:
Ɣall four wheels are not on the ground
Ɣthe grass discharge chute is exposed and is not
protected by the grass box and grass discharge
chute cover
Ɣhands and feet of all persons are not clear of the
cutting enclosure
ŶDo not force the product. It will do the job better and
safer at the speed for which it was designed.
ŶDo not overload the product. Mowing long, thick grass
may cause the engine speed to drop or the power to cut
out. When mowing in long thick grass, set a high cutting
height on your first cut to help reduce the load.
ŶStop the blade when crossing gravel surfaces.
ŶDo not pull back the product unless absolutely
necessary. If you must back the product away from a
wall or obstruction, first look down and behind to avoid
tripping or pulling the product over your feet.
ŶStop the engine and allow the blade to stop if the
product has to be tilted for transportation when crossing
surfaces other than grass, and when transporting the
product to and from the area to be mowed.
ŶNever use the product with defective guards or shields,
or without safety devices, such as deflectors and/ or
grass catchers, in place.
ŶDo not tilt the product when starting the engine or while
the engine is running. This exposes the blade and
increases the probability of objects being thrown.
ŶStart the engine carefully according to instructions and
keep hands and feet away from cutting area. Do not
put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep
clear of the discharge opening at all times. Do not start
the product when standing in front of the discharge
opening.
ŶNever pick up or carry the product while it is running.
ŶWhen not in use, store the product in a well-ventilated,
dry, or locked-up place that is out of the reach of
children.
ŶFollow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper
operation and installation of accessories. Only use
accessories approved by the manufacturer.
ŶDo not operate the engine in a confined space where
dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collect.
ŶDo not change the engine governor settings or over-
speed the engine.
ŶStop the engine, wait until the blade comes to a
complete stop, allow the product to cool down, and
disconnect the spark plug wire:
Ɣwhenever you leave the product unattended
(including disposal of grass clippings).
Ɣbefore cleaning a blockage or unclogging discharge
chute
Ɣbefore checking, cleaning or working on the product
Ɣafter striking a foreign object; inspect the product
for damage and make repairs as necessary before
restarting and operating the product
Ɣbefore removing the grass box or opening the grass
discharge chute cover
Ɣbefore refuelling
ŶIf the product starts to vibrate abnormally, check
immediately to:
Ɣinspect for damage, particularly the blades
Ɣreplace or repair any damaged parts
Ɣcheck for and tighten any loose parts
ŶIf the product strikes a foreign object, follow these
steps:
ƔStop the product and disconnect the spark plug
wire.
ƔThoroughly inspect the mower and grass catcher
for any damage.
ƔRepair any damage before restarting and continuing
to operate the mower

ŶAvoid holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, property stakes, or
other hidden objects. Uneven terrain could cause a
slip-and-fall accident.
ŶAllow engine to cool down before storing in any
enclosure.
ŶTo reduce the risk of fire, keep the engine, silencer, and
petrol storage area free of grass, leaves, and excessive
grease.
ŶIf the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done
outdoors.
ŶDisconnect the spark plug wire before making any
adjustment, transporting, or storing the product. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting
the product accidentally.
ŶThe product is noisy and permanent hearing loss
or damage may result if precautions to limit your
exposure, reduce noise, and wear hearing protection
are not strictly adhered to.
SERVICE
ŶService on the product must be performed by qualified
repair personnel only. Service or maintenance
performed by unqualified personnel could result in a
risk of injury to the user, or damage to the product.
ŶWhen servicing, use only original manufacturer’s
replacement parts. Use of unauthorised parts may
create a risk of serious injury to the user, or damage
to the product.
NOTE: Only perform the tasks listed in this manual. For
other service or repair, bring the product to an authorised
service centre.
Save this manual for future reference. Refer to them
frequently and use them to instruct others who may use
the product. If you loan the product to someone, loan them
these instructions also.
RESIDUAL RISKS
Even when the product is used as prescribed, it is still
impossible to completely eliminate certain residual risk
factors. The following hazards may arise in use and the
operator should pay special attention to avoid the following:
ŶInjury caused by vibration
ƔAlways use the right tool for the job. Use designated
handles and restrict working time and exposure.
ŶInjury caused by noise
ƔExposure to noise can cause hearing injury. Wear
ear protection and limit exposure.
ŶInjury from contact with the blades
ŶInjury caused by thrown objects
RISK REDUCTION
It has been reported that vibrations from handheld tools
may contribute to a condition called Raynaud’s Syndrome.
Symptoms may include tingling, numbness, and blanching
of the ¿ngers, usually apparent upon exposure to cold.
Hereditary factors, exposure to cold and dampness, diet,
smoking, and work practices are all thought to contribute to
the development of these symptoms. There are measures
that can be taken by the operator to possibly reduce the
effects of vibration:
ŶKeep your body warm in cold weather. When operating
the product, wear gloves to keep the hands and wrists
warm. It is reported that cold weather is a major factor
contributing to Raynaud’s Syndrome.
ŶAfter each period of operation, exercise to increase
blood circulation.
ŶTake frequent work breaks. Limit the amount of
exposure per day.
If you experience any of the symptoms of this condition,
immediately discontinue use and see your physician.
WARNING
Injuries may be caused, or aggravated, by prolonged
use of a tool. When using any tool for prolonged periods,
ensure you take regular breaks.
SYMBOLS

operate the product better and safer.

Wear eye and ear protection.
Do not operate on inclines greater than
15°. Mow across the face of slopes,
never up and down.
Keep all body parts and clothing clear of
any belts or other moving parts.
To avoid injury, stay away from moving
parts at all times.

avoid contact with any hot surface.
Do not smoke and stay away from open

Mow when the catcher is empty
Stop mowing when the catcher is full.
Do not touch the hot metal surface.
Before performing maintenance,
remove the spark plug socket.
Loosen fuel cap slowly to release
pressure and to keep petrol from
escaping around the cap.
Carefully pour petrol into the tank.
Push the primer bulb 3 times.
Hold the operator presence control
down against the handle.
Pull the starter cord until the engine
runs.
Mow across the surface of the slope.
Avoid mowing up and down.
STOP
Remove objects that could be thrown by
the rotating blade.
Keep bystanders a safe distance away
from the machine.
Fuel and its vapours are explosive and
can cause severe burns or death.
Fuel and its vapors are extremely
Àammable and explosive. Fire can
cause severe burns or death.
Use unleaded petrol intended for motor
vehicle use with an octane rating of 87
[(R + M)/2] or higher.
Use SAE 30 or 10W-30 API-SJ weight
oil.
Conforms to all regulatory standards in
the country in the EU where the product
is purchased.

WARNING

product until the parts are replaced. Using a product
with damaged or missing parts could result in serious

tampered with or disabled.

is running. Failure to stop the engine may cause

To prevent accidental starting that could cause serious
personal injury, always disconnect the engine spark
plug wire from the spark plug when assembling parts.
WARNING
Never operate the mower without the proper safety
devices in place and working. Never operate the mower
with damaged safety devices. Operation of this product
with damaged or missing parts could result in serious
personal injury.
INSTALLATION
See figure 2.
ŶPlace handles in correct operating position and tighten
handle knobs to secure.
ŶLoosen rope guide knob, place starter rope in guide on
handle, then retighten knob to secure.
ŶInstall the grass catcher.
OPERATION
FUEL AND REFUELLING
WARNING
Always handle petrol with care; it is highly Àammable.
ŶUse fresh fuel.
ŶStore fuel in containers specifically designed for this
purpose.
ŶAlways refuel outdoors where there are no sparks and
flames. Do not inhale fuel vapour. Do not smoke. Stay
away from open flames and sparks when filling fuel tank
or when handling fuel.
ŶDo not let petrol or oil come in contact with your skin.
ŶKeep petrol and oil away from the eyes. If petrol or oil
comes in contact with the eyes, wash them immediately
with clean water. If irritation is still present, see a doctor
immediately.
ŶImmediately clean up spilled petrol.
ŶRefill the fuel up to the recommended level.
FILLING THE TANK
See figure 3.
WARNING
Always shut off engine and allow it to cool down for 5
minutes before refuelling. Never remove the cap of the
fuel tank or add petrol to the product with a running or
hot engine. Move at least 9 m (30 ft) from refuelling site
before starting the engine. Do not smoke. Failure to
heed this warning could result in serious personal injury.
WARNING
Do not over¿ll. Fill the fuel tank to 25 mm below the top
of the fuel neck. After fueling, never tilt the mower more
than 25 degrees for this could result in fuel leakage and
risk of ¿re.
ŶClean surface around fuel cap to prevent contamination.
ŶLoosen fuel cap slowly to release pressure and to keep
fuel from escaping around the cap. Rest the cap on a
clean surface.
ŶCarefully pour petrol into the tank. Avoid spillage.
ŶClean and inspect the gasket, then replace all fuel and
container caps securely.
ŶWipe up any fuel spillage. Move 9 m away from
refuelling site before starting engine.
NOTE: It is normal for smoke to be emitted from a new
engine during and after ¿rst use.

ADDING/CHECKING ENGINE OIL
See figure 3.
Engine oil has a major inÀuence on engine performance
and service life. For general, all-temperature use, SAE
10W-30 is recommended. Always use a 4-cycle motor oil
that meets or exceeds the requirements for API service
classi¿cation SJ.
NOTE: Non-detergent or 2-cycle engine oils will damage
the engine and should not be used.
To add engine oil:
ŶEnsure that the mower is level and area around oil cap/
dipstick is clean.
ŶRemove the cap and seal from oil bottle.
ŶUnscrew the oil cap/dipstick and remove.
ŶSlowly add oil. Fill to the “Full” line on dipstick. Do not
overfill.
NOTE: When checking the oil level, seat the dipstick in
the oil fill hole but do not screw in.
ŶReinstall the oil cap/dipstick and secure.
To check engine oil:
ŶEnsure that the mower is level and area around oil cap/
dipstick is clean.
ŶRemove the oil cap/dipstick. Wipe clean and reseat in
oil ¿ll hole but do not screw in.
ŶRemove the oil cap/dipstick again and check oil level.
Add oil as needed.
STARTING/STOPPING THE MOWER
See figure 3.
WARNING
Never start or run the engine inside a closed or poorly
ventilated area; breathing exhaust fumes can kill.
STARTING THE ENGINE
ŶFirmly push the primer bulb 3 times.
NOTE: This step is not usually necessary when starting
an engine that has already run for a few minutes.
ŶHold the operator presence control bar down against
the handle.
ŶPull the starter cord until the engine runs. Do not pull
the starter grip more than 4 times. Release the starter
cord slowly so the rope does not snap back.
NOTE: It may be necessary to repeat priming steps in
cooler weather. In warmer weather, overpriming may cause
Àooding and engine will not start. If you do Àood the engine,
wait a few minutes before attempting to start and do not
repeat priming steps.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Release the operator presence control bar and allow the
engine to come to a complete stop.
PROPELLING THE PRODUCT
See figure 4.
ŶTo self-propel: Hold down the operator presence control
while pulling the drive control lever towards the handle.
Release the drive control lever to stop the wheel drive.
ŶTo manually propel: Hold down the operator presence
control. Do not engage the drive control lever.
SETTING BLADE HEIGHT
See figure 5.
When shipped, the wheels on the mower are set to a low-
cutting position. Before using the mower for the ¿rst time,
adjust the cutting position to the height best suited for your
lawn. The average lawn should be between 38 mm to 50
mm during cool months and between 50 mm and 76 mm
during hot months.
To set the blade height:
ŶStop the product and wait for the blade to come to a
complete stop.
ŶTo raise the blade height, grasp the height adjustment
lever and move it toward the back of the mower.
ŶTo lower the blade height, grasp the height adjustment
lever and move it toward the front of the mower.
SETTING HANDLE HEIGHT
See figure 6.
The height of the handle can be easily adjusted for operator
preference.
To adjust the handle height:
ŶStop the product and wait for the blade to come to a
complete stop.
ŶRemove the handle knob.
ŶSlide out the handle bolt and adjust the height to the
other opening.
ŶReinstall the handle bolt and knob. Tighten the knob
securely.
ŶRepeat on the other side of the handle.
MOWING TIPS
ŶMake sure the lawn is clear of stones, sticks, wires, and
other objects that could damage the lawn mower blades
or engine. Such objects could be accidentally thrown by
the mower in any direction and cause serious personal
injury to the operator and others.
ŶFor best performance, always cut off one-third or less of
the total height of the grass.
ŶWhen cutting long grass, reduce walking speed to allow
for more effective cutting and a proper discharge of the
clippings.

ŶDo not cut wet grass. It will stick to the underside of the
deck and prevent proper bagging or discharge of the
grass clippings.
ŶNew or thick grass may require a narrower cut path.
ŶWhen the fuel tank is empty and before refuelling, tip
the mower on the left hand side with the fuel cap at the
highest position. This will prevent fuel spillage. Remove
the spark plug lead to prevent accidental starting. The
blade is sharp, avoid contact with it. Check the blade
and underside of deck for any damage or build up of
debris. Clean if necessary. Check security of the blade
bolt.
SLOPE OPERATION
See figure 7.
ŶSlopes are a major factor related to slip-and-fall
accidents that can result in severe injury. Operation on
slopes requires extra caution. If you feel uneasy on a
slope, do not mow it. For your safety, do not attempt to
mow slopes greater than 15 degrees. Do not use the
drive wheels when mowing on slopes.
ŶMow across the face of slopes, never up and down.
Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on
slopes.
ŶWatch for holes, ruts, rocks, hidden objects, or bumps
which can cause you to slip or trip. Tall grass can hide
obstacles. Remove all objects such as rocks, tree limbs,
which could be tripped over or thrown by the blade.
ŶAlways be sure of your footing. A slip and a fall can cause
serious personal injury. If you feel you are losing your
balance, immediately release the operator presence
control.
ŶDo not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or embankments;
you could lose your footing or balance.
EMPTYING THE GRASS CATCHER
See figure 8.
ŶStop the mower and wait for the blade to come to a
complete stop.
ŶLift the rear discharge door.
ŶGrasp grass catcher by its handle and lift to remove
from mower.
ŶEmpty grass clippings.
ŶLift the rear discharge door and reinstall the grass
catcher.
WARNING
Use extreme caution when lifting or tilting the product for
maintenance, cleaning, storage, or transportation. The
blade is sharp, even though the engine is shut off, the
blades can still be moved. Keep all body parts away from
the blade while it is exposed.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING
After releasing the operator presence control, regularly
check if the blade stops in 3 seconds. If the product
does not stop after 3 seconds, bring the product to an
authorised service centre.
WARNING
If the product is not maintained correctly, the life span of
the product may be reduced, and built-in safety features
may not function correctly, thus increasing the potential
for serious injury. Keep the product in good working
condition.
WARNING
Before performing any maintenance, stop the product,
allow the blade to come to a complete stop, and
disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
Failure to heed this warning could result in serious
personal injury.
WARNING
When servicing, use only original manufacturer’s
replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a
hazard or cause product damage.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
You may make adjustments and repairs described in this
manual. For other repairs, contact an authorised service
centre.
ŶAvoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most
plastics are susceptible to damage from various types
of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their
use. Use clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, oil, or grease.
ŶPeriodically check all nuts and bolts for proper tightness
to ensure safe operation of the product.
ŶRemove any buildup of grass and leaves on or around
the engine and engine cover. Occasionally wipe the
mower clean with a dry cloth. Do not use water.
ŶFrequently check the grass catcher for wear or
deterioration.
WARNING
Do not, at any time, let brake Àuids, gasoline, petroleum-
based products, or penetrating oils come in contact
with plastic parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken, or
destroy plastic which may result in serious personal
injury.

LUBRICATION
All of the bearings in this product are lubricated with
a suf¿cient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of
the unit under normal operating conditions. Therefore, no
further bearing lubrication is required.
WARNING
Always protect hands by wearing heavy gloves and/or
wrapping the cutting edges of the blade with rags and
other material when performing blade maintenance.
Improper handling of blade could result in serious
personal injury.
REPLACING THE CUTTING BLADE
See figure 9.
Be careful when replacing the mower blade. Ensure that
your ¿ngers do not get caught between the moving blade
and the ¿xed parts of the product.
For best results, the mower blade must be kept sharp.
Replace a bent or damaged blade immediately.
WARNING
Only use replacement blades approved by the
manufacturer. Using a blade that is not approved by
the manufacturer of the product is hazardous and could
result in serious injury, damage to the product, and will
void your warranty.
WARNING
Drain the fuel ¿rst before tilting the mower to replace the
blade.
ŶStop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire.
Allow blade to come to a complete stop.
ŶTurn the product on its side (carburetor facing up).
ŶWedge a block of wood between the blade and mower
deck to prevent the blade from turning.
ƔInstalling: See figure 9a.
ƔRemoving: See figure 9b.
ŶUsing a 9/16-in. wrench or socket (not provided), loosen
the blade bolt by turning the bolt in a counterclockwise
direction as viewed from the bottom of the mower.
ŶRemove the blade bolt, lock washer, flat washer, and
blade.
ŶPlace the new blade on the shaft. Make sure it is
installed with the curved ends pointing up toward the
mower deck and not down toward the ground.
ŶReplace the flat washer, lock washer, and blade bolt
on the shaft. Finger tighten the bolt by turning in a
clockwise direction as viewed from the bottom of the
mower.
NOTE: Make certain all parts are replaced in the exact
order in which they were removed.
ŶTorque the blade bolt down using a torque wrench (not
provided) to ensure the bolt is properly tightened.
ŶThe recommended torque for the blade bolt is 48–55
Nm (35–40 ft.lb.).
NOTE: Do not sharpen the blades, replace with new
item. Blades need to be properly balanced to avoid
damage and personal injury.
CLEANING AIR FILTER
See figure 10.
ŶFor proper performance and long life, keep the air filter
clean.
ŶRemove the air filter cover by pushing in on the latch
with your thumb while gently pulling on the cover.
ŶRemove the air filter and clean it in warm soapy water.
Rinse and let dry completely.
ŶApply a light coat of engine oil to the air filter, then
squeeze it out using an absorbent cloth or paper towel.
ŶReinstall the air filter into the air filter base.
ŶReplace and secure the air filter cover.
NOTE: The ¿lter should be replaced annually for best
performance.
FUEL CAP
WARNING
A leaking fuel cap is a ¿re hazard and must be replaced
immediately.
The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable ¿lter and a
check valve. A clogged fuel cap will cause poor engine
performance. If performance improves when the fuel cap
is loosened, check valve may be faulty or clogged. Replace
fuel cap if required.
CHANGING ENGINE OIL
See figure 11.
ŶEnsure the fuel tank is completely empty before tipping
the unit over otherwise fuel will leak out.
ŶEngine oil should be changed after every 20 hours of
use. Change the oil while the engine oil is still warm,
but not hot. This allows the oil to drain quickly and
completely.
ŶRemove the oil fill cap/dipstick.
ŶTip mower onto its side and allow oil to drain from the oil
fill hole into an approved container.
ŶPlace mower upright and refill with oil following the
instructions in the Adding/Checking Oil section.
NOTE: Used oil should be disposed of at an approved
disposal site. See your local oil retailer for more information.

SPARK PLUG MAINTENANCE
See figure 12.
ŶThe spark plug must be properly gapped and free of
deposits in order to ensure proper engine operation. To
check:
ŶRemove spark plug boot.
ŶClean any dirt from around base of spark plug.
ŶRemove spark plug using a 13/16 in. spark plug socket
(not provided).
ŶInspect spark plug for damage, and clean with a wire
brush before reinstalling. If insulator is cracked or
chipped, spark plug should be replaced.
NOTE: If replacing, use the following recommended
spark plugs or equivalent: E7RTC.
ŶMeasure plug gap. The correct gap is 0.71 mm í
0.79 mm. To widen gap, if necessary, carefully bend
the ground (top) electrode. To lessen gap, gently tap
ground electrode on a hard surface.
ŶSeat spark plug in position; thread in by hand to prevent
cross-threading.
ŶTighten with wrench to compress washer. If spark plug
is new, use 1/2 turn to compress washer appropriate
amount. If reusing old spark plug, use 1/8 to 1/4 turn for
proper washer compression.
NOTE: An improperly tightened spark plug will become
very hot and could damage the engine.
ŶReinstall spark plug boot.
DRIVE GEAR MAINTENANCE
See figure 13.
To ensure smooth operation of wheels, the wheel assembly
should be cleaned before storage.
ŶRemove the nut and wheel and set aside.
ŶRemove dust cover, e-ring, washer, pins, and wheel
gear. Clean any dirt from these items and the end of
the drive shaft by wiping with a dry cloth. If necessary,
rubbing alcohol may be used to remove any stubborn
dirt.
CAUTION: Do not lubricate any of the wheel components
Lubrication may cause the wheel components to fail during
use, which could result in mower damage.
ŶReinstall wheel gear with the arrows facing the front
of the mower. Reinstall pins, washer, e-ring, and dust
cover.
ŶReinstall wheel and nut. Tighten nut to secure.
REPLACING WHEELS
See figure 14.
WARNING
Use only the manufacturer’s replacement wheels. Using
wheels that are not approved by the manufacturer is
hazardous and could result in serious personal injury.
ŶStop the product. Make sure that all moving parts have
come to a complete stop. Allow the product to cool
down. Disconnect the spark plug wire.
ŶRemove the nut from the wheel axle, then remove the
wheel.
ŶReplace with new wheel and reinstall nut to secure.
STORING THE PRODUCT
When storing the mower for 30 days or more:
ŶIf using a fuel stabilizer, follow the stabilizer
manufacturer’s directions to add stabilizer to petrol in
the fuel tank. Run the engine at least 10 minutes after
adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach the
carburettor.
WARNING
Do not store the product with petrol in the tank inside a
building where fumes may reach an open Àame or spark.
ŶIf not using a fuel stabilizer, allow the engine to run until
the product is completely out of fuel.
ŶOnce the engine has stopped, allow the blade to come
to a complete stop and disconnect the spark plug wire.
ŶTurn the fuel valve to the closed position.
ŶTurn the product on its side (with carburettor facing up)
and clean grass clippings that have accumulated on the
underside of the mower deck.
ŶClean the underside of the mower deck.
ŶWipe the product clean with a dry cloth.
ŶCheck all nuts, bolts, knobs, screws, and fasteners for
tightness.
ŶInspect moving parts for damage, breakage, and wear.
Have repairs made on any damaged or missing parts.
ŶStore the product in a well-ventilated area that is clean,
dry, and is out of the reach of children.
ŶDo not store near corrosive materials, such as fertilizer
or rock salt.
To lower the handle before storing
See figure 15.
ŶLoosen the starter rope guide knob. Remove starter
rope from guide and allow to retract into engine.
ŶFully loosen the handle knobs on the sides of the
handle and fold the upper handle down.
ŶPush inward on each side of the lower handle, and
lift the sides of the lower handle past the edges of the
handle mounting brackets.
ŶFold the lower handle forward, making sure not to bend
or kink the control cables.

TRANSPORTATION
ŶStop the product. Make sure that all moving parts have
come to a complete stop. Allow the product to cool
down before storing or transporting. Disconnect the
spark plug wire.
ŶClean all foreign materials from the product. Store the
product in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place that
is inaccessible to children. Keep away from corrosive
agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.
Do not store outdoors.
ŶFor transportation in a vehicle, secure the product
against movement or falling to prevent injury to persons,

ŶN'utilisez pas la machine dans l'herbe mouillée ou sous
la pluie.

ŶGardez à l’esprit que l’opérateur est responsable des
accidents qui arrivent aux autres personnes présentes
dans sa propriété.
ŶDe tragiques accidents peuvent se produire si
l’opérateur n’est pas conscient de la présence d’enfants.
Les enfants sont souvent attirés par la machine et par le
déroulement de la tonte. Ne considérez jamais comme
acquis qu’un enfant restera là où vous l’avez vu pour
la dernière fois.
ŶMaintenez les enfants éloignés de la zone de tonte et
sous la surveillance attentive d’un adulte responsable
autre que l’opérateur, soyez prudent et arrêtez le
produit dès qu’un enfant entre dans la zone.
ŶSoyez particulièrement prudent lors de l’approche des
angles morts, des buissons, des arbres et des autres
objets, dont les arbustes en surplomb, qui peuvent
bloquer la vue.
ŶGardez la zone de travail propre. Un lieu de travail en
désordre ou mal éclairé augmente le risque d'accidents.
AVERTISSEMENTS DE SÉCURITÉ RELATIFS À LA
TONDEUSE À GAZON
ŶAvant utilisation, vérifiez toujours visuellement que les
lames, boulons de lame, et ensembles de coupe ne
sont ni usés ni endommagés.
ŶRemplacez toujours les lames usées ou endommagées
ainsi que les boulons dans leur ensemble pour
conserver l'équilibrage.
ŶN’utilisez jamais la tondeuse si le contrôle de présence
de l’opérateur actif n’arrête pas le moteur.
ŶN’utilisez pas le produit sans l’ensemble du bac de
ramassage ou la garde de l’ouverture de décharge à
fermeture automatique en place.
ŶLa lame dont est équipé le produit est très coupante.
Soyez particulièrement prudent et portez des gants
solides lorsque vous mettez en place, remplacez,
nettoyez ou vérifiez le bon serrage de ses boulons.
ŶApportez le produit à un service après-vente agréé pour
le remplacement des étiquettes abîmées ou illisibles.
ŶVérifiez régulièrement le bon serrage des écrous, vis et
boulons pour vous assurer que le produit soit toujours
en bon état de fonctionnement.
ŶVérifiez fréquemment tout signe d’usure et l’absence
de détérioration ou de trous dans le bac de ramassage
d’herbe. Ceci pourrait provoquer la projection d’objets
en direction de l’opérateur.
ŶRemplacez les éléments usés ou endommagés avant
d'utiliser le produit.
ŶAllumez le moteur prudemment avec l’utilisateur
derrière les manettes dans la zone de sécurité de
l’opérateur. Ne démarrez jamais le produit si:
Ɣl'ensemble des quatre roues ne repose pas sur le
sol
Ɣla goulotte d’éjection de l’herbe est exposée et n’est
pas protégée par le bac à herbe et le cache de
goulotte d’éjection de l’herbe
Ɣles mains et les pieds de toutes les personnes
présentes ne sont pas à l’écart du carter de coupe
ŶNe faites pas forcer le produit. Il effectuera un meilleur
travail dans de meilleures conditions de sécurité s’il est
utilisé à la vitesse pour laquelle il a été conçu.
ŶNe surchargez pas le produit. La tonte d’herbe épaisse
et grasse peut entraîner une chute du régime moteur,
ou une coupure d’alimentation. Lors de la tonte des
herbes longues et épaisses, réglez la hauteur de
découpe sur la partie haute pour votre première coupe,
afin de réduire la charge.
ŶArrêtez la lame lorsque vous traversez des surfaces
recouvertes de graviers.
ŶNe tirez pas le produit en arrière à moins que cela ne
soit absolument nécessaire. Si vous devez reculer la
machine pour l'éloigner d'un mur ou d'un obstacle,
regardez d'abord par terre et derrière vous pour éviter
de trébucher ou de faire passer la machine sur vos
pieds.
ŶArrêtez le moteur et attendez que la lame s’arrête si
vous devez incliner la tondeuse pour lui faire traverser
des surfaces non herbeuses, et lorsque vous la
transportez vers et depuis la surface à tondre.
ŶN’utilisez jamais la machine si un de ses carters ou
une de ses protections sont endommagés, ou dont les
éléments de sécurité, tels que déflecteur et/ou panier
de ramassage ne sont pas en place.
ŶNe basculez pas la tondeuse à gazon lorsque vous
en démarrez le moteur ou lorsque le moteur tourne.
Ceci mettrait la lame à découvert et augmenterait la
probabilité que des objets soient projetés.
ŶMettez le moteur en marche avec prudence en
respectant les instructions et gardez vos mains et vos
pieds à distance de la zone de coupe. Ne mettez pas
vos pieds ou vos mains sous les pièces en rotation ou
à leur proximité. Restez en permanence à l’écart de
la trappe d’éjection. Ne vous tenez pas en face de la
trappe d’éjection lorsque vous démarrez l'appareil.
ŶNe transportez ni ne soulevez jamais le produit lorsque
son moteur tourne.

ŶLorsque vous ne l’utilisez pas, rangez la tondeuse en
un lieu bien ventilé, sec, verrouillé et hors de portée
des enfants.
ŶSuivez les recommandations du fabricant concernant
l’utilisation et l’installation correcte des accessoires.
N’utilisez que les accessoires recommandés par le
fabricant.
ŶNe faites pas fonctionner le moteur dans un lieu confiné
où les dangereuses émanations de monoxyde de
carbone pourraient s'accumuler.
ŶNe changez pas les réglages du régulateur de
puissance et ne faites pas tourner le moteur en
surrégime.
ƔArrêtez le moteur, attendez que la lame s’arrête
entièrement, laissez le produit refroidir et
déconnectez le câble de la bougie :
Ɣchaque fois que vous laissez le produit sans
surveillance (y-compris lorsque vous videz le sac
de ramassage de l’herbe) ;
Ɣavant de nettoyer un blocage ou de décolmater la
goulotte d’éjection
Ɣavant de travailler sur le produit, de le vérifier ou de
le nettoyer ;
Ɣaprès avoir heurté un objet étranger ; vérifiez
l’absence de dommages sur l’appareil et effectuez
les éventuelles réparations nécessaires avant de
redémarrer la machine et de l’utiliser ;
Ɣavant de retirer le bac de ramassage ou d’ouvrir
le volet de fermeture de la goulotte d’éjection de
l’herbe ;
Ɣavant le ravitaillement.
ŶSi le produit se met à vibrer de façon anormale,
effectuez immédiatement ce qui suit :
Ɣvous vérifiez les dommages éventuels, en particulier
lorsque cela concerne les lames ;
Ɣremplacez ou réparez toute pièce endommagée ;
Ɣvérifiez l’absence d’éléments desserrés et
resserrez-les au besoin.
ŶSi la machine heurte un objet étranger, suivez ces
étapes:
ƔArrêtez le moteur et débranchez le fil de la bougie.
ƔVérifiez soigneusement l’absence de dommages
sur la tondeuse et le bac à herbe.
ƔRéparez tout dommage avant de redémarrer la
tondeuse et de reprendre la tonte.
ŶÉvitez trous, racines, monticules, pierres et autres
objets cachés. Un terrain accidenté peut provoquer une
glissade et une chute entrainant un accident.
ŶLaissez le moteur refroidir avant stockage dans tout lieu
fermé.
ŶPour réduire les risques d'incendie, gardez le moteur, le
silencieux, et le lieu de stockage de l'essence exempts
d'herbe, de feuilles et des excès de graisse.
ŶSi vous devez vidanger le réservoir d'essence, faites-le
à l'extérieur.
ŶDéconnectez le câble de la bougie afin d’effectuer tout
réglage, de transporter ou de stocker le produit. Cette
mesure de précaution empêche de mettre en marche
l’outil électrique par mégarde.
ŶCette machine est extrêmement bruyante et pourrait
provoquer une perte d'audition permanente si des
mesures de précautions telles que la réduction de
l'exposition, la réduction du bruit et le port d'une
protection auditive ne sont pas suivies de façon stricte.
TRAVAUX D'ENTRETIEN
ŶLes réparations ne doivent effectuées que par du
personnel qualifié. Si l’entretien ou les réparations sont
effectués par des personnes non qualifiées, il pourrait
en résulter des blessures ou des dommages matériels.
ŶN'utilisez que des pièces détachées d'origine
constructeur pour les opérations d'entretien.
L’utilisation de pièces non agrées peut entraîner de
graves blessures et des dommages matériels.
REMARQUE: N’effectuez que les tâches énumérées dans
ce manuel. Pour l’entretien et les réparations, apportez le
produit à un service après-vente agréé.
Conservez ce manuel pour vous y reporter dans le futur.
Reportez-vous-y fréquemment et servez-vous en pour
apprendre aux autres utilisateurs éventuels comment
utiliser l’appareil. Si vous prêtez ce produit à quelqu’un,
prêtez-lui également ce manuel.
RISQUES RÉSIDUELS
Même lorsque le produit est utilisé selon les prescriptions,
il reste impossible d'éliminer totalement certains facteurs
de risque résiduels. Les dangers suivants risquent de se
présenter en cours d'utilisation et l'utilisateur doit prêter
particulièrement garde à ce qui suit :

RÉDUCTION DES RISQUES
Il a été reporté que les vibrations engendrées par les outils
tenus à la main peuvent contribuer à l’apparition d’un état
appelé le syndrome de Raynaud chez certaines personnes.
Les symptômes peuvent comprendre des fourmillements,
un engourdissement et un blanchiment des doigts,
généralement par temps froid. Des facteurs héréditaires,
l’exposition au froid et à l’humidité, le régime alimentaire,
le tabagisme et les habitudes de travail peuvent contribuer
au développement de ces symptômes. Certaines mesures
peuvent être prises par l’utilisateur pour aider à réduire les

effets des vibrations:
ŶGardez votre corps au chaud par temps froid. Lorsque
vous utilisez le produit, portez des gants afin de garder
vos mains et vos poignets au chaud. Le temps froid est
considéré comme un facteur contribuant très largement
à l’apparition du syndrome de Raynaud.
ŶAprès chaque session de travail, pratiquez des
exercices qui favorisent la circulation sanguine.
ŶFaites des pauses fréquentes. Limitez la quantité
d'exposition journalière.
Si vous ressentez l'un des symptômes associés à ce
syndrome, arrêtez immédiatement le travail et consultez
votre médecin pour lui en faire part.
AVERTISSEMENT
L'utilisation prolongée d'un outil est susceptible de
provoquer ou d'aggraver des blessures. Assurez-vous
de faire des pauses de façon régulière lorsque vous
utilisez tout outil de façon prolongée.

Pour éviter les blessures, restez à
l’écart des pièces en mouvement à tout
moment.
Danger ! Éloignez vos pieds et vos
mains.
Risque de ricochet. Éloignez les
passants d’au moins 15 m.
Pour réduire les risques de blessures
ou de dommages, évitez tout contact
avec les surfaces chaudes.
Ne fumez pas et restez éloigné des
Àammes nues et des étincelles lors du
remplissage du réservoir ou lors de la
manipulation du carburant.
Tondez lorsque le bac est vide.
Arrêtez de tondre lorsque le bac est
plein.
Ne touchez pas aux surfaces
métalliques chaudes.
Avant toute opération de maintenance
sur le produit, retirez la douille de la
bougie.
Dévissez lentement le bouchon du
réservoir pour relâcher la pression et
pour empêcher la carburant de couler
autour du bouchon.
Versez avec soin l'essence dans le
réservoir.
Pressez fermement la poire d'amorçage
à 3 reprises.
Maintenez le contrôle de présence de
l’opérateur appuyé contre la poignée.
Tirez sur la corde du lanceur jusqu'à ce
que le moteur démarre.
Tondez en traversant la pente à
l’horizontale. Évitez de tondre de haut
en bas.
STOP
Retirez les objets susceptibles d'être
projetés par la lame en rotation.
Maintenez les passants à bonne
distance de l’outil.
L'essence, ainsi que ses vapeurs, est

AVERTISSEMENT
Ne faites jamais fonctionner la tondeuse sans que ses
dispositifs de sécurité soient en place et opérationnels.
N’utilisez jamais de tondeuse si les éléments de sécurité
sont endommagés. L’utilisation d’un appareil dont
des pièces sont manquantes ou endommagées peut
entraîner de graves blessures.
INSTALLATION
Voir figure 2.
ŶPlacez les poignées en position d’utilisation correcte et
verrouillez-les à l’aide des boutons du poignée.
ŶDesserrez le bouton du guide de la corde, mettez la
corde du lanceur dans le guide sur la poignée, puis
resserrez le bouton.
ŶInstallez le bac de ramassage d'herbe.
UTILISATION
CARBURANT ET REMPLISSAGE DU RÉSERVOIR
AVERTISSEMENT
Manipulez toujours l'essence avec précaution; elle est
hautement inÀammable.
ŶUtilisez du combustible neuf.
ŶStockez le carburant dans des conteneurs spécialement
conçus à cet effet.
ŶProcédez toujours au remplissage à l’extérieur, loin
de toute source d’étincelles et de flammes. N’inhalez
pas les vapeurs de carburant. Ne fumez pas et restez
éloigné des flammes nues et des étincelles lors du
remplissage du réservoir ou lors de la manipulation du
carburant.
ŶNe laissez ni essence ni lubrifiant entrer en contact
avec votre peau.
ŶGardez l'essence et l'huile à l'écart de vos yeux. Si de
l'essence ou de l'huile venait à entrer en contact avec
vos yeux, rincez-les immédiatement à l'eau claire. S’ils
restent irrités, consultez immédiatement un médecin.
ŶNettoyez immédiatement toute essence renversée.
ŶRechargez le carburant jusqu’au niveau recommandé.
REMPLISSAGE DU RÉSERVOIR
Voir figure 3.
AVERTISSEMENT
Arrêtez toujours le moteur et laissez-le refroidir pendant
5 minutes avant de remettre du carburant. Ne retirez
jamais le bouchon du réservoir d’essence et n’ajoutez
jamais d’essence dans une machine dont le moteur
tourne ou est encore chaud. Éloignez-vous de 9 m
au moins de l’endroit où vous avez rempli le réservoir
avant de faire démarrer le moteur. Ne fumez pas. Le
non-respect de cet avertissement pourrait entraîner de
graves blessures.
AVERTISSEMENT
Ne remplissez pas trop. Remplir le réservoir de carburant
à 25 mm sous le sommet du col de carburant. Après
avoir fait le plein, n’inclinez pas la tondeuse à plus de 25
degrés car vous risqueriez de renverser de l’essence et
de provoquer un incendie.
ŶNettoyez le réservoir autour du bouchon afin d'éviter
toute contamination du carburant.
ŶDévissez lentement le bouchon du réservoir. Posez le
bouchon sur une surface propre.
ŶVersez avec soin l’essence dans le réservoir en évitant
d’en répandre.
ŶNettoyez et vérifiez le joint, puis remettez bien en place
tous les bouchons d'essence et de réservoir.
ŶEssuyez le carburant répandu. Eloignez-vous de 9 m
de la zone de remplissage avant de démarrer le moteur.
REMARQUE: Il est normal que le moteur émette de la
fumée pendant et après la première utilisation.
VÉRIFICATION/APPOINT EN HUILE MOTEUR
Voir figure 3.
L’huile moteur joue un rôle essentiel dans les performances
du moteur et dans sa durée de vie. Pour une utilisation
générale sous toutes les températures, il est recommandé
d’utiliser de l’huile SAE 10W-30. Utilisez toujours une huile
moteur 4 temps répondant ou dépassant les prescriptions
pour la classi¿cation service API SJ.
REMARQUE: N’utilisez pas de l’huile non détergente ou
pour moteur 2 temps car elle endommagerait le moteur.
Pour faire l'appoint en huile :
ŶAssurez-vous que la tondeuse est de niveau et que les
alentours du bouchon/de la jauge d’huile sont propres.
ŶRetirez le bouchon et le joint du bidon d'huile.
ŶDévissez le bouchon/la jauge d’huile et retirez-le/la.
ŶAjoutez lentement de l’huile. Remplissez jusqu’au
repère « Full » de la jauge. Ne remplissez pas trop.
REMARQUE: Lorsque vous vérifiez le niveau
d’huile, faites reposer la jauge sur l’orifice de
remplissage sans la visser.
