totheRUNposition.TurnittotheOFFpositionand
removethekeytoturnoffthemachine.
SpeedControl

Automatic-MotorBrake
Themachineisequippedwithanautomatic-motor
brakethatpreventsitfromrollingwhenthemachine
isshutoff.Themotorbrakeisonwheneverthe
tractiondriveisintheNEUTRALpositionoryoumove
thespeedcontroltotheZEROposition,exceptinthe
followingcircumstances:
•Whenthemachineisturnedoff,usethe
parking-brakelatchtoensurethattheservice
brakeisconsistentlyengaged.
•Whenyoustartthemachinewiththekeyswitch,
themotorbrakeisinitiallydisengaged.After
drivingthemachine,themotorbrakefunctions
normally.
•Ifyoumovethespeedcontroltozerospeedwhile
thereelsareengaged(i.e.,whilemowing),the
brakedoesnotengage.Thisfeatureallowsyou
tomovetothespeedcontroltotheZEROposition
whilemowingandpullthemachinerearwardto
makecoursecorrections.
Kickstand
Thekickstand(Figure29)ismountedtotherearof
themachine.Usethekickstandwhenyouinstallor
removethetransportwheelsorthecuttingunit.
•Tousethekickstandtoinstallthetransportwheels,
lowerthekickstandtothegroundandstepdown
ontheloopwhilepullingupandbackonthe
lower-centerhandle(Figure28).
CAUTION
Themachineisheavyandcancauseback
strainifliftedimproperly.
Putyourfootpressuredownonthe
kickstandloopanduseonlythe
lower-centerhandletoraisethemachine.
Attemptingtoraisethemachineontothe
kickstandanyotherwaycancauseinjury.
