Instructions for Adding One
or Two TracVision®A5/M3 12V
Receivers to a TracVision
A5/M3 System
(Kit P/N 02-1340)
The following pages explain how to connect a second or third
TracVision A5/M3 12V receiver to the TracVision A5 or
TracVision M3 system. This kit supports the following wiring
configurations:
• Original TracVision A5/M3 12V receiver +
one (1) additional TracVision A5/M3 12V receiver
• Original TracVision A5/M3 12V receiver +
two (2) additional TracVision A5/M3 12V receivers
(requires two second receiver kits (02-1340))
If you need to connect more than two additional receivers, you
will need to purchase a multiple receiver kit (P/N 72-0181) and
an active multiswitch (P/N 19-0123).
Before You Begin
Before you connect your second or third TracVision A5/M3 12V
receiver, be sure to install the original TracVision A5/M3 12V
receiver first and test the system for proper operation, as
described in the Installation Guide. Once you’ve tested the system
in a single-receiver configuration, follow these instructions to
install your additional receiver(s).
Kit Contents
This expansion kit contains various hardware and other materials
that you will need to install the second or third receiver. Ensure
the box contains all of the items listed in the Contents List.
Connecting the Additional Receiver(s)
The diagrams on the following pages show the basic receiver-to-
receiver wiring for one or two additional TracVision A5/M3 12V
receivers. Refer to these figures when connecting the additional
TracVision A5/M3 12V receiver(s) to your TracVision A5 or
TracVision M3 system.

Wiring Diagram for Three TracVision A5/M3 12V Receivers

1. Turn off the power switch on the rear panel of the
original TracVision A5/M3 12V receiver. The
switch’s green light should go out.
2. At the rear panel of the original receiver,
disconnect the RF cable from the “Satellite In”
jack. Leave the cable connected to the “To Satellite
In” jack.
3. Connect the RF cable (that you disconnected in
Step 2) to the splitter’s “Input” jack.
4. Connect the 7" RG179 RF cable from either of the
splitter’s “Out” jacks to the “Satellite In” jack on
the original receiver.
5. At the second receiver’s rear panel, completely
remove the short RF cable from the “Satellite In”
and “To Satellite In” jacks. Discard this cable. Also
remove this cable from the third receiver, if
applicable.
6. If you are connecting only one additional
receiver, connect the 6-ft. RG179 RF cable from the
splitter’s other “Out” jack to the second receiver’s
“Satellite In” jack. You can use a longer RF cable, if
desired. Skip to Step 8.
7. If you are connecting two additional receivers,
connect the 6-ft. RG179 RF cable from the splitter’s
other “Out” jack to the second splitter’s “Input”
jack. Then connect RF cables from the splitter’s
two “Out” jacks to the “Satellite In” jacks on the
two additional receivers. You can use longer RF
cables, if desired.
8. Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide to
connect the RF converter, audio/video cables, and
power wires to the second receiver and third
receiver, if applicable.
9. Follow the instructions in the Installation Guide to
mount the second or third receiver, if desired.
10. Install two AAA batteries in the new remote control(s).

Testing the System
Now you need to turn the system on, test all receivers, and
ensure everything works properly.
1. Ensure that the antenna has a clear view of the
southern sky.
2. Apply vehicle/vessel power and turn on the
entertainment system (TV). Turn on the
audio/video components that are connected to the
original receiver and the components that are
connected to the additional receiver(s).
3. Turn on the rear panel power switch on the
original receiver. The switch’s light illuminates
green and the receiver beeps two or three times.
4. Verify that the following appears on the TV(s) that
are connected to the original receiver:
The TracVision antenna searches for and locks
onto the satellite. The receiver then starts
downloading the program guide and the
following message appears:

The original receiver controls power to the TracVision
antenna. You MUST turn on the original receiver in order
to operate the additional receiver(s).

This process may take up to 60 seconds. Once the
program guide has loaded, a DIRECTV
programming channel appears. Only the DIRECTV
preview channels (such as channels 100 and 201) are
viewable if you haven’t yet activated the receiver.
5. If you don’t see the messages shown in Step 4 after
30 seconds, press the SAT button on the remote
control that came with the original receiver. Then
press the remote’s PWR button. The original
receiver beeps twice to indicate that power is
applied to the antenna.
6. Turn on the rear panel power switch on the second
receiver. The switch’s light illuminates green and
the receiver beeps two or three times. The receiver
then starts downloading the program guide and
the following message appears on the TV(s) that
are connected to the second receiver:

Antenna Status Light on Additional Receiver(s)
Please note that the antenna status light on the additional
receiver(s) will remain red at all times. This is normal. Only the
original receiver that is connected directly to the antenna via the
RF coax cable can monitor antenna status.
Activating the Receiver(s)
Before you can start watching satellite TV via a TracVision
A5/M3 12V receiver, the receiver must be activated.
If you have already activated the original receiver:
Call KVH at 1-866-551-8004 to activate the second
(or third) receiver under the same account. Follow
the instructions on page v of the User’s Guide and
be sure to tell the KVH Activation Department
representative that you just need to add a second
(or third) receiver to your account.
If you need to activate the original receiver as well as the
additional receiver(s):
Call KVH at 1-866-551-8004 to activate all of your
receivers. Follow the instructions on page v of the
User’s Guide and be sure to tell the KVH Activation
Department representative that you need to
activate multiple receivers.

You will need the serial number of the additional
receiver(s) in order to activate. The serial number is noted
on the red Activation Card that came with the receiver.

Using the Additional Receivers
If you have two receivers connected:
With two receivers, your passengers can now watch different
channels. One passenger can use the original receiver’s remote
control to change the channel on one screen, while another
passenger can use the second receiver’s remote control to change
the channel on the other screen. The second receiver’s remote control
(marked with a colored dot) is programmed to work exclusively with the
second receiver.
If you have three receivers connected:
The remote control that came with the second receiver is identical
to the remote control that came with the third receiver (these
remotes are marked with a colored dot). As a result, using either of
these remotes won’t change the channel on the original receiver,
but it will change the channel on the second receiver and third
receiver. To prevent this “cross talk” between the two remotes,
you can program the third receiver’s remote control to operate
only the third receiver. For details, refer to Section 3-4,
“Controlling Multiple Receivers,” in the User’s Guide.

To operate the second receiver, you must use the second
receiver’s remote control. To operate the original receiver,
you must use the original receiver’s remote control.
