7.2 Wan
This option lets you select the correct WAN type as required by your ISP. There are
four WAN types:
1. PPPoE; PPP over the Ethernet is the most common connection method used
for xDSL internet connections
2. PPTP; This method uses the PPP Tunnelling Protocol which supports multi-
protocol Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
3. Static IP Address; This method uses a static IP address that will be provided
by your ISP if needed.
4. Dynamic IP Address; This method automatically obtains an IP address from
your ISP every time your web station connects to the Internet.
7.3 LAN
It is necessary for your Trust 340 SPEEDSHARE WEB STATION to have an IP
address to access your LAN (Local Access Network). It is possible to enable the
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service which allows for dynamic IP
addresses for each of your network clients. You can also configure your web station
with filtering functions based on specific clients or protocols.
7.4 NAT
NAT (Network Address Translation) gives permission for multiple users to access the
Internet from your network using a single public IP address or with the use of multiple
public IP addresses. NAT also prevents the threat of hacker attacks by the mapping
of local addresses of public addresses for important applications like accessing the
Internet or using an ftp (File Transfer Protocol) site.
7.5 Firewall
Your Trust 340 SPEEDSHARE WEB STATION offers extensive firewall protection
and security. This is accomplished by restricting connection parameters limiting the
risk of intrusion; this defends your network against a wide variety of the more
common hacker attacks. For applications that require unrestricted access to the
Internet and possibly your network you can configure individual clients or servers as
DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).
7.6 Routing
In the case that you use multiple routers in your network it is necessary to configure
each router’s routing functions.
Please take note that if you are unfamiliar with any setting, please use the default
setting. This will eliminate the possibility of lost data or damage to your Trust 340
SPEEDSHARE WEB STATION or workstation.
Note: To learn more about these options please refer to the “Networking Sharing
Manual”. You can find this manual on the Trust installer CD that came with this
product. To open this manual click on “Read manual” on the Trust installer CD menu,
or see the file named “Read Internet Sharing Manual” on the same CD
