Select the correct plug and push it into the receptacle and press down until it clicks securely
into place as shown above. The plug can be removed by squeezing together the locking pins
and sliding the plug out as shown below.
Before assembly, unpack the shipment and check that all component parts against the
Component Parts List before commencing your build (see the Component Parts Section
in this User Guide)
PREPARE THE 12V PSU
The MetroLED flexible lighting track system is powered from EITHER a multifunction,
multi-voltage, 4 Amp desk top Power Supply Unit, OR an IEC input, multi-voltage boxed PSU.

ASSEMBLY
7
UFO LIGHTING
Most MetroLED systems are shipped either fully or partly assembled. All LEDs should be already
fitted to the 3 track extrusion. Assembly therefore will generally involve fitting together
extrusions. Gantry Legs will be marked “Le” and “Right” to avoid confusion. CAUTION –
fitting legs on the wrong side of a gantry can result in a rotating joint being incorrectly turned
and damaged. Assemble the MetroLED system as per instructions below.
All plastic MetroLED components fit into the matching keyed sections of the metal extrusions,
either by sliding on, or by twisting and locking see 2.6
Push the fitting carefully but firmly into the extrusion taking great care to avoid damaging
adjacent LEDs. Make sure the plastic fitting is pushed fully home.

ASSEMBLY

If LED slide on fittings are removed from the track for any reason, ensure they are the correct
way round when replacing. See examples below.

Pushing LED fittings
on the wrong way will
irreparably damage
the spring contacts

ASSEMBLY

TWIST-LOCK PARTS
This is a 2 part assembly - see photographs below:
Assembly apart Push assembly into Base - turn the top assembly
so that it sits across the base as shown
Push the base assembly into the track
so that the connector pins line up with
the two tracks required.
Push down and twist the upper
assembly through 90 degrees until it
locks onto the track as shown below-
NOTE:
Care must be taken to push the
fitting firmly down so that it is fully
sitting in the track extrusion. If not
fully inserted when twisting to lock,
the plastic housing may become
damaged which will result in the
fitting not being locked in.

OPERATION
METROLED USER GUIDE
10
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
There are 3 electrical connections required before connecting the system to the
mains – see drawing below:
1. Connect the extrusion power In connector track power cable to the MetroLED dimmer ensuring
correct wire colour codes
2. Connect the dimmer box and cable to MetroLED dimmer ensuring correct wire colour codes
3. Plug the 5V DC jack plug into the input socket on the MetroLED dimmer

OPERATION &MAINTENANCE
11
UFO LIGHTING
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The MetroLED Dimmer unit has two +ve track outputs which are limited to 3 Amps – exceeding
the load on either track will cause the overloaded track to shut down and the overload indicator
LED to illuminate.
Turn the dimming controls and check that the appropriate track dims and brightens.
Plug the mains plug into the electrical supply socket. Switch on power the LEDs on the track will
illuminate. If no light is produced consult the TROUBLESHOOTING section.
MAINTENANCE
Please Note that a record of all maintenance MUST be kept in the table below, indicating what
maintenance was undertaken and when. This MUST be dated for warranty purposes.

This section is intended to assist approved constructors who will be cutting and preparing
MetroLED. This section should be read in conjunction with the Constructors UFO 5 part
video guide.
HAND TOOLS

A powered chop saw with a suitable blade must be used to cut the metal and plastic extrusion.
Do not attempt to cut using a hacksaw or any other manual means as this will result in uneven
edges and possible damage to the copper track carrier.
The powered chop saw used by UFO is a Proxxon KGS 80 with a carbide tipped, blade having
36 teeth. The saw and blades are widely available in a 110V version in the USA or 240V versions
in Europe.
Always observe current statutory and local safety regulations when using hand and power
tools. Use suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout.
CUTTING METAL EXTRUSION
Before cutting metal extrusion refer to the UFO Constructors video guide parts 1 & 2
(Clamping & Cutting Extrusion).
To cut metal extrusion, first measure the required length and mark on the extrusion side using
pencil. Insert the UFO extrusion tool into the extrusion through 90as shown in sketch overleaf.

Clamp the extrusion and the UFO Extrusion Tool in the chop saw vice (use protective pads on
the vice jaws to avoid scratching the paintwork) as shown below.
NOTE: If the UFO Extrusion Tool is not used the plastic copper carrier may split and/or the
copper track may be distorted and forced out of the carrier.
Ensuring the free end of the extrusion to be cut is clamped or secured, switch on the saw and
cut through the extrusion slowly.

CONSTRUCTION
Once cut, the copper track ends must be prepared to accept the MetroLED fittings. Clamp the
cut extrusion using the UFO extrusion tool as shown below (use protective material underneath
the extrusion to avoid scratching the paintwork)
Once clamped, carefully file the ends of the copper track to an approximate 30°angle. This
angle allows the MetroLED push fit devices, electrical spring contacts to be pushed onto the
track without damage, see images below.
NOTE: Failure to file the copper track ends to 30°WILL result in damage to the electrical
spring contacts of MetroLED push fit devices.
CUTTING PLASTIC INFILLS
Before cutting plastic infill refer to the UFO Constructors video guide parts 3 (Cutting Infill)
To cut plastic infill, first measure the required length and mark on the extrusion side
using pencil.
Clamp the extrusion in the chop saw vice open section downwards (use protective pads on the
vice jaws to avoid scratching the surface) – do not over tighten the jaws as this may damage or
distort the plastic.
Ensuring the free end of the infill to be cut is clamped or secured, switch on the saw and cut
through the infill slowly.

COPPER TRACK
Before replacing copper track refer to the UFO Constructors video guide parts 4 & 5
(Inserting & Tapping Down Copper).
In the event of the copper track coming out of its holder (see below) the following reparative
action can be taken.
Insert the UFO Extrusion Tool into the extrusion prior to the raised copper track and pressing
down firmly slide the tool along and over the raised track pushing it back down into its holder.
Finally, place the UFO Extrusion Tool over the raised area tap it gently with a hammer.

INSTALLATION USING C-CLIPS
UFO supply C-clips for both round & rectangular MetroLED extrusions. Please ensure that:
- A clip is installed at least at either end and in the centre of all runs of extrusion.
- For extrusions of 1 metre or less, a minimum of 3 clips must be used.
- For extrusions over 1 metre in length, 1 clip must be installed every 500mm
along the extrusion length.
