MEDUSA DESKTOP CARE GUIDE
This introductory booklet will help you install and setup the aquarium. This
guide will also introduce you to general maintenance and jellyfish care.
Also included are some troubleshooting tips and FAQ’s.
Thank you once again for choosing the Medusa Desktop Aquarium.
INSTALLATION
1. Choose the right location: The aquarium when filled with salt water will weigh over 60KG.
Choose a suitable surface to set up the aquarium that can hold the weight of the entire
system. The Aquarium should be set up out of direct sunlight. Be sure to position the tank
near an electrical supply point.
2. Un-package your aquarium and parts supplied: Your aquarium
will be complete with the following parts.
-Medusa Desktop Aquarium
-RGB Lighting & Power supply
-Biological Balls
-Filter floss
-Pump
-Pipe & Stop valve (Pre-installed)
3. Add biological balls: The Balls will need to go into the first chamber at the rear of the
aquarium. (Facing the front of the aquarium, chamber on the far left).

4. Install Filter floss: The white floss needs to be placed on top of the biological balls in the
first chamber at the rear of the aquarium. (Facing the front of the aquarium, chamber on the
far left).
5. Attach the pump: Attach the pump to the pipe end that is pre-installed. Place the pump in
the last chamber at the rear of the aquarium. (Facing the front of the aquarium, chamber on
the far Right). The power lead needs to feed out of the top of the filter chamber.
6. Install the light: The Light comes with two metal brackets that need to be installed in either
side of the light. Attach the power supply and place the light on the top of the aquarium.
7. Fill your aquarium with Salt Water: You can purchase saltwater from UK Jellyfish or mix
your own. To do this you’ll need to purchase RO water & Marine salt. For the measurements
see below.
-Once the aquarium is filled it will hold 60 Litres, you need to add 30 grams of salt per litre.
-Litres x Grams = Salt in Grams So… 60 x 30 = 1800 grams of salt.
8. Check water fill level: Fill the main body of the tank up to the out-take hole at the top left
hand side of the tank. Then fill the rear of the tank (black section) until the water is level with
the middle separator. The middle separator is in the black rear compartment of the tank.
9. Power up your Pump & Light: Plug in the pump & light then switch on the power. Your
aquarium is running!
10. Final Adjustments: You can alter the flow of water into the aquarium by turning the stop
valve at the top of the aquarium. Generally this valve will be in the ‘mid-position’.

WATER PARAMETERS
Salinity
To test the salinity purchase a Hydrometer or
Refractometer. These can be purchased
online at UK Jellyfish. The aquarium water
should be between 25-30 ppt (Or 25-30
grams per litre). If the salinity is too high
remove a small amount of water and add RO
water until the parameters are correct again.
If the salinity is too low add salt to a small
amount of RO water outside of the aquarium
and then add this to the tank, DO NOT add
salt directly to the aquarium water.
Temperature
The aquarium water temperature must be
between 16-24 degrees centigrade. This is
commonly room temperature so there is no
need to add a heater or chiller if you are
keeping moon jellyfish. If the tank is set up
near a window you will get temperature
fluctuations and this will negatively affect the
jellyfish.
Nitrates
Nitrates appear when when the tank has
been exposed to too much light or the fish
have been overfed and excess food has not
been removed. To avoid nitrate build-up turn
offthe lights when the are not in use &
reduce the feeding dosage. A water
treatment chemical, Prodibio BioClean, must
be used every two weeks to remove
unwanted nitrates.
Ammonia
Ammonia is a product of Nitrate. Following
the steps above will reduce ammonia in your
aquarium. Purchase Prodibio BioClean
supplied by UK Jellyfish add it to the tank
every two weeks, this will reduce ammonia.
In some cases the ammonia levels can ‘spike’
perform an emergency water change to
reduce the levels.

INTRODUCING JELLYFISH
Before introducing jellyfish the water parameters need to be correct. Maturing the water is
essential before introducing the jellyfish. To do this there are two options…
Option 1: Once the aquarium is filled with saltwater wait for 2 weeks. Test the water
parameters, if these are all correct then introduce the jellyfish. This time lets the aquarium
water mature naturally.
Option 2: Speed up the water maturity! Purchase Prodibio StartUp, this is a bacteria which will
mature the aquarium water in only 12 hours! We recommend once Prodibio StartUp is added
wait for at least three days before introducing jellyfish.
When the jellyfish arrive from UK Jellyfish they will come with more detailed instructions for
introduction.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
The Medusa Desktop Aquarium needs to be cleaned frequently to insure the health and survival
of the jellyfish.
Perform a 20% water change every two weeks. To do this stop the pump and siphon 20% of
the aquarium water out into a bucket. Then replace the 20% with new clean salt water supplied
by UK Jellyfish.
Be sure to keep the aquarium walls free from algae by wiping the sides of the aquarium at least
once every month with a microfibre cloth.
Filtration will need to be rinsed under a tap every month to insure that the filtration is working
eiciently.

TROUBLESHOOTING & FAQS
“My Jellyfish are getting sucked onto the grill in the aquarium”
-A: The flow rate is too high, reduce the flow rate using the stop valve.
“My Jellyfish seem to be just settled on the bottom of the aquarium”
-A: The flow rate is too low, increase the flow rate using the stop valve at the top of the
aquarium.
“My Jellyfish have flattened out shaped like a dinner plate”
-A: The flow rate is too high, reduce the flow rate using the stop valve at the top of the
aquarium.
“My Jellyfish aren’t growing, it even looks like they are shrinking!”
-A: Check what you're feeding the jellyfish. They most likely need to be fed live enriched baby
brine shrimp supplied by UK Jellyfish. Try feeding a little more than usual over a week to see
if they resume growing.
“My Jellyfish has turned inside out and isn’t pulsing correctly!”
-A: This is called inversion, this happens when either the temperature or salinity parameters
are not correct. Check the temperature and salinity then try to match the recommended
parameters.
“One of my Jellyfish isn’t feeding”
-A: This isn’t uncommon, sometimes jellyfish don’t feed! However if your concerned try
feeding live baby brine shrimp directly into the underbelly of the jellyfish using a feeding
pipette.
