1. Directions for safe operations
1.1. General safety instructions
The jet modeler in the USA shall comply to the AMA rules for turbine
models operations. We require our customer to reading and complying
with the docs and regulations enclosed on this page:

The operation of any jet engine can be dangerous. This also holds true for
the
B300F
. During operation, the jet efflux and parts of the jet nozzle
become very hot; the nozzle can reach up to 700 °C. In addition, the
turbine fans do reach very high rotation speeds, which leads to extreme
tensile loads and temperatures. Therefore, it cannot be excluded that parts
of a failing turbine fan wheels or broken fans could strike through the
housing which can lead to damage and even injury or death.
Study the operation mode and the dangers of operation before using a jet
engine. In case you have no experience with the operation of gas turbines
and jet engines, instruction by an experienced person, especially before
initial operation, is mandatory. Errors in mounting and operation of a jet
engine can lead to damage, injury, or death.
Follow AMA regulations concerning aircraft, the operation of jet engines,
and the handling of combustible liquids and gases. You are exclusively
responsible to have sufficient insurance when operating aircraft. You are
also responsible to protect other persons from injury and danger.
Operating personnel and their assistants must be in best physical and
mental condition and pay full attention to the operation.
This engine must only be used for unmanned operation in R/C aircraft.
The instructions in this manual must be exactly followed.

This device was manufactured to the highest current technological
standards. It must only be used for the purpose it was designed for.
This device can, however, be a danger to people, animals and things
when
not operated according to the purpose it was designed for
the instructions in the manual are not correctly followed
it is changed or rebuilt
This manual introduces you to a safe operation of the device.
Therefore, careful reading and thorough understanding of the manual
is vital before operation the device.
Every person who is involved in the operation of this device must read this
manual, especially the instructions for safe operation.
Furthermore one has to follow the laws and general rules of
the avoidance of accidents

1.2. Warning
Consider the basic differences between gas turbines and piston engines.
Turbines will deliver power only at high rotation speeds. Then there will be
a lot of power (see diagram).
Higher loads occur when driving an R/C aircraft model with a turbine
compared to equally powerful drives like propellers or impellers.
This is a result of considerably higher air speeds caused by jet propulsion.
Maximum speeds under jet propulsion can exceed 200 mph, depending on
the model. We would like to remind you that the AMA has issued strict
rules regarding maximum speed for operating turbine powered RC
models. Please refer to the AMA regulations from the link posted above.
Servos should be carefully chosen, at least 1.5 times as strong as for
comparable models with conventional engines. Ultimate Jets supplies a
set of tools to compute servo torque requirements and choose the proper
servo for the task. Please refer to our technical publications.
During installation, seal the intake and nozzle, as well as kerosene joints
to keep dust and debris out of the engine.
Really make sure to:
first inform, then buy
have the fitting size model for your turbine
select servos that are powerful enough
construct servo wiring and rudder joints very carefully and
reinforced
seal the turbine during the installation process

1.3. Before starting the engine
Tank system, pump, shut-off kerosene valves and turbine must
be checked for correct alignments.
Loose parts in the intake area must be fixed in a way they can
never be sucked in. Loose parts or dirt can damage or destroy
the turbine. recommend the use of a FOD screen.
Have a fire extinguisher (CO2) within reach!
The kerosene system must not be leaking.
Use only kerosene or Diesel with a 5% ratio of oil (fully
syntethic 2-stroke mix oil or turbine oil).
Take off must be against the wind.
Hold the turbine with the nozzle facing downwards right before
starting so that any excess of fuel can run off to avoid a hot
start of the engine.
1.4. During operations
Always stay in front of the turbine (intake facing), never to the
side or in the exhaust area of the turbine.
Also make sure that no other persons or animals are present in
the mentioned dangerous areas.
Keep your hands and every kind of object out of the area within
20 cm of the compressor (intake). The enormous suction can
grasp everything within reach and cause severe injury or
damage.
Never look into the jet exhaust. Severe burns could result.

1.5. After shutting down the engine
Place model with the nose facing the wind. Wait until the
cooling down process is completed.
Be aware of the cooling process after engine shut down.
During this process, the electric power supply of the receiver
and the ECU must not be turned off. The cool down process
takes 1 to 2 minutes, depending on the outside air
temperature.
Do not touch the turbine during the cool-down because the
danger of burning still exists.
All tube connections must be inspected for leakage after each
flight. The fuel tanks must be emptied in case of extreme
outside air temperatures or when there is no further operations
planned for the day (danger of explosion!).

2. Installation of the turbine
2.1. Attachment Options
The frame to bracket attachment points must be parallel (check
before fastening). Otherwise uneven tensions could damage
the engine casing. The B-300F generates so much thrust that
the included bracket is not sufficient to hold the engine.
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO SECURE THE ENGINE WITH AN
ADDITIONAL AND REDUNDANT FASTENING SYSTEM. SEE
THE TWO OPTIONS BELOW ( SILICON GLUING OR
ADDITIONAL TABS )
Attach the turbine only with the provided bracket, screws and
washers (see picture 2). Use a thin bead of Loctite 5940 high
temperature silicon between the bracket and the engine
casing. Please apply a thin coat of wax on the engine casing at
the glue bead location before fastening the bracket on the
engine. This way the bracket can be removed relatively easily
from the engine.
Should you want to avoid gluing the bracket on the engine, you
can use the securing tabs provided with the engine in a
separate bag and follow the specific instructions included with
the set.

2.2. Engine mounting rules
The engine must be installed in a way that the fuel starter tube
is in the 12 o'clock position. This is absolutely vital for proper
kerosene start on the
B300F
engine. Otherwise, the start, i.e.
the ignition, would fail and might even lead to engine damage.
There must not be any flammable objects near the turbine. The
turbine must not be touched by flammable objects.
The nozzle and the whole area in the neighborhood of the jet
exhaust must be kept clear of any objects.
In case of mounting within a bypass enclosed system, the rear
end of the installation area and any parts which could be
affected by the hot jet exhaust should be protected with non-
flammable materials (danger of fire!). When an extension of the
nozzle is necessary, it must be constructed and installed
according to the manufacturer’s specifications (overheating!).
The turbine must be installed in a way that it can be cooled by
a bypassing air stream.
Combustible liquids and gases as well as tanks and tubes must
be kept away from or installed at a safe distance from the
engine.
The intake area (impeller / compressor) must be kept clear.
Any wires, tubes, etc. must be installed and fixed in a way they
cannot be sucked into the turbine. In general, there should not
be any objects or installations close to the front end of the
turbine.
The intake section of the model should have at least twice the
area of the impeller/compressor wheel.
You must make sure that no objects, e.g. rocks, dirt, screws,
etc., can be sucked into the turbine. It is a good idea to protect
the turbine intake with a Foreign Object Damage screen (see
accessories for FOD screen).
The intake area must absolutely be kept clear. The vacuum
generated by the intake is very strong. Make sure that the
intake duct is reinforced with carbon fiber, especially if it is
long.

2.3. Assembly of the complete system
Please look at the installation schematics number 1 as well as
the installation picture number 2 in the appendix section.
The optimum size of the fuel tank depends on the model but
should be at least 2.5 liters. The optimum size for the
B300F
is 4 - 5 liters, which is enough for an average air time of 6 –8
minutes, depending on your style of flying. For further
information please see technical data, fuel consumption. There
must be a clunk in the tank.
The tank set up should be made using a new generation
hopper tank. Please refer to the installation schematics "
engine fuel supply". All the fuel lines and vents must be of at
least 4 mm ID.
Use yellow, highly flexible Tygon tube, attach it to the pump
and secure with safety wire. Fuel system accessories can be
found in the Ultimate Jets line of products.
The fuel pump must be installed directly after the hopper tank.
Be careful to install the pump correctly (brass fitting = draw
side). The electric wiring of the pump hast to be done with the
correct polarity (+ / -). If the pump is not wired correctly, it will
not work properly and will transport no fuel
Install the fine filter on the pressure side downstream the
Hausl fuel pump (side out). Install, a Y Festo quick connector
downstream the filter; using the red and blue 4mm tubes
provided. Plug each tube to a fuel valve, respecting the flow
direction engraved on the valve ( thin arrow engraved on the
top of the valve ).
The electric connection of the main line valve should be made
at the ECU “KERO VALVE”input. The fuel line should be
connected to the turbine using the engine quick connector
labeled „ KEROSINE “
The electric connection of the start line valve should be made
at the ECU “PROP-VALVE“ input. The fuel line should be
connected to the turbine using the engine quick connector
labeled „IGNITION“.

All FESTO quick connectors (blue head) are self-locking.
They are connected and disconnected this way:
Insert the tube strongly. There should be no resistance felt for
the first 6mm of travel. However on the next 6mm
(approximately) resistance should be felt. Only then the tube is
perfectly locked in.
For release, push the blue cap in the direction of the
connector's body and remove the tube by pulling.
Now the turbine should be electrically wired to the ECU:
Connect the turbine via power lead to the ECU at the Glow /
Starter output. Also connect the black data cable to the turbine
and the Sensors input of the ECU.
Connect the I/O Interface with the ECU at the “Terminal“
connection. Then the data terminal can be connected to the
I/O Interface. The I/O Interface serves as control interface; it
features acoustic and optic control. The data terminal does
not need to be installed in the model for day to day operations.
Power supply:
Rechargable batteries of at least 30C rating and 3500 mAh and
up to 5500mAh of 3 cells type must be used.
We recommend high rating 3S Lipo and a maximum of 12 volts.
Connect the battery to the “BATTERY” input of the ECU. Use
a high quality pure copper or silver cable of gauge cable of 10
AWG, especially if the distance between the battery and the
engine is long.
Disconnect the battery from the ECU when not in use to
prevent discharge. Check for the right polarity at power plug!
Long battery wires should be twisted!
Finally connect the receiver to your ECU. The cable is welded
on the ECU. Only use original adaptor cables if other receiver
plugs are necessary. The ECU is only operated by one input
channel (engine power limiter).

3. First Turbine Operations
3.1. Initial steps
Fill the fuel tank with kerosene. Ensure a 5% oil mix.
Make sure the tank breather is open!
Filter your fuel when filling up using a line filter on your jerrycan.
Make sure that both the ECU battery and the receiver battery are
charged.
Test your remote control range with and without the ECU turned
on.
Always place the model with the nose into the wind and make
sure that the jet blast will not be set in the direction of persons or
equipment.
Turn the transmitter and the receiver ON.
The Pro-Jet ECU is mostly pre-adjusted and tuned to your
turbine. If the unit starts in German, you can change the
language to English in menu 3.2 ( System-> Sprache ).
However you'll have to teach your remote control unit throttle
range to the ECU. The failsafe range should be programmed at
this stage. Please refer to 3.3 below. Then, follow the ProJet
instructions on page 16, to learn RC from menu 2.1.
It is necessary to prime the fuel system before the first operation
in a new model. That means both starter and main fuel lines must
be filled with kerosene up to the engine. Priming is done
manually with throttle back, and trim low on the transmitter. Press
the small black smc push button on the left side of the I/O board.
This will open both fuel valves and start the pump. Check the
kerosene progression in the lines carefully to prevent the turbine
from being flooded. Stop priming just before kerosene enters the
turbine. Do not pump kerosene into the turbine.
This procedure must be done before the first engine run as well
as if dry running has occurred due to tanks emptying or
unpriming.
Should the turbine have been flooded, place the model with the
nozzle facing downwards ( nose up ) to allow excess kerosene to
exit the turbine. This should avoid a hot start, that can damage
the turbine.

3.2. Starting your turbine
Be sure to have a fire extinguisher (CO2) within reach.
The ECU runs through an automated calibration routine to
adjust fuel metering to outside air parameters as well as tube
length. The Hornet III ECU, does this routine at every start.
On the first boot-up the ECU will adjust the temperature probe
and the pump's starting voltage.
The turbine is then ready for start (green I/O LED ON ).
Set trim to max, then throttle to max. The terminal will indicate
"STANDBY". The ECU is waiting for your order to start ( red I/O
LED ON ).
Simply retard throttle stick to minimum and within three seconds
to full.
The starting sequence will run. See the Pro Jet instructions (page
26).
Note that during the sequence, the turbine will calibrate for idle
and mid rev at ca. 60 000 rpm. Hold or adjust your model for this
procedure. The procedure can be interrupted any time using
emergency stop by pulling the trim and throttle stick in the aft
position.
After that auto calibration routine, the turbine can be controlled
with the throttle ( red I/O LED OFF ).
All the parameters necessary for the turbine's safe operation
are now controlled by the ECU.
Conduct a test run of your turbine, possibly while testing the
range of your model.
Shut off the turbine at mid rev range. This is done by putting
the throttle stick to mid position, then setting the trim back all
the way and then pulling the throttle stick back to idle position.
An engine shut-off from medium rotation speeds achieves a
gentler cool down of the rear ball bearings and the whole
system.
Put the model against the wind and wait until the after cooling
process is over (around 2 minutes). When completed, you can
turn off the receiver unit.
Check the model’s fuel supply connections and de-fuel, if
necessary.

3.3. Control Functions and failsafe
In case of error, check the ProJet manual. From p. 16 onwards
you will find some concise error descriptions and explanations.
Transmitter signal lost: Auto shut off happens if the transmitter
signal fails on PPM receivers. Attention! With PCM receivers,
the fail safe function should be programmed to idle in order to
avoid emergency stops upon intermittent receiving errors.
With 2.4 Ghz receivers, the throttle range has to be
programmed and failsafe position teached to the transmitter.
Setup the throttle ATV from the transmitter at +- 150%. Then
program the failsafe throttle point at -150%.
Adjust the throttle ATV range back to +- 100%. Make sure that
no throttle curve is programmed in the transmitter. Learn RC
from the ECU ground support unit in menu 2.1. Please refer to
the transmitter user manual to set the failsafe point.
The fail safe auto shutdown must be checked at the field. With
the turbine running, switch off the transmitter and make sure
that the turbine shuts down. The ECU status should read
"failsafe" and the I/O board should beep continuously. This is
an AMA requirement.
3.4. Tuning Options / Electronics
Please refer to the Pro Jet manual for tuning options. You
should study the latter carefully.
Avoid a system reset!!!
As a result, the ECU may have to be updated at the Ultimate
Jets factory again.
The ECU features a code controlled menu system. Every
number features an individual menu point. From these menu
points you have options of changing different pre-set
parameters. This should, if at all, be done very carefully
because the factory setting of most parameters is already
optimal.
The following parameters are to be verified, i.e. changed, also
after a system reset (see attached sheet).

4. Maintenance Instructions
4.1. Correct Maintenance of Your Turbine
BF turbines only need little maintenance under normal operating
conditions. However, some points must be considered to guarantee a
faultless operations of the engine. This includes regular cleaning and
inspection.
Dirt and grease deposit can cause slippage of the starter unit
clutch. If this happens, clean the rubber o’ring and the
compressor nut with a degreaser like alcohol or naphta.
The felt clunks mounted into the tanks should be cleaned or
changed after 10 hours of operation.
The pressure line filter between the pump and the turbine
should be cleaned every 5 hours of operation.
Do this very carefully and make sure that no particle will
enter the fuel supply tube. Destruction of the turbine could
result!
Make sure the o-ring is in the correct position when screwing
the filter back together. Check for leak integrity!
Cover the intake and nozzle areas when the turbine is not in
use.
Keep the turbine in a dry and dust-free environment when it is
not used for a longer time. We recommend a dehumidifier to
prevent corrosion.
Check the battery condition regularly.
Your turbine’s maintenance interval is at 40 to 50 hours
(about 300 flights). After this time as well as after a special
event (crash, etc.) the turbine should be returned to the
factory.

4.2. Repair Work
Repair and maintenance work which include the disassembly of the
turbine must only be performed by professional personnel.
Please contact Ultimate Jets with all service related questions.
Warranty return can only be carried out by Ultimate Jets for the USA
Maintenance and repair work performed by non authorized personnel will
void the warranty.

5. Terms of use and warranty
5.1. Buyer's Representations.
Buyer represents that he/she is very experienced in model airplane
operation, and that all of the information set forth in the Purchase
Application is true and correct. Ultimate-Jets relies on such
representations, and would not enter into this sale but for these
representations.
5.2. Buyer's Acknowledgment of Risks and Dangers.
Buyer recognizes that operation of the Model Engine may be dangerous,
and that under certain circumstances, its handling will be dangerous. As
set forth in Paragraph 3 below, Buyer accepts full responsibility for all of
these risks and waives all liability as against Ultimate-Jets.
(a) Buyer's Acknowledgment of Danger. Buyer expressly
acknowledges that use of the Model Engine is dangerous if
improperly handled, and could inflict injury if attempts are made to
handle it properly, if the user does not fully acquaint himself/herself
with the Model Engine's operation procedures. The Model Engine
may cause burns to the user, or the user's assistant, particularly in
the start-up procedure, and Buyer agrees to use extreme caution.
The Model Engine exhaust is extremely hot, and will burn someone
or something placed directly behind the exhaust tube. Highly
flammable liquid is used to operate the Model Engine, and it or its
fumes will ignite easily and flare up rapidly. The Model Engine itself
remains extremely hot, after it is shut off, and requires a cooling
down period. Improper use of the Model Engine, or failure to follow
Academy of Model Aeronautics ("AMA") guidelines and rules will
result in injury to the user, the user's assistant, or bystanders.
Operation of the Model Engine in any location other than an
approved location, and under safe circumstances could lead to injury
to bystanders. A risk exists from explosion, in the event of tampering,
modifications leading to over-speed or extreme metal fatigue.
(b) Buyer's Obligation to Become Fully Acquainted With Operation
Procedure. Buyer acknowledges receipt of operating instructions for
the Model Engine which depicts its handling and operation. Buyer
agrees to thoroughly acquaint himself/herself with these materials,
and to require his/her assistant to become equally familiar with them.
Buyer expressly agrees not to allow any person to assist in the start-

up procedure of the Model Engine, who has not become thoroughly
familiar with these materials.
(c) Agreement to Use Qualified Assistant in Start-Up Procedure.
Buyer acknowledges that the start-up procedure for the Model
Engine cannot be safely done, without an assistant. Buyer expressly
agrees to use an assistant, who is thoroughly familiar with the Model
Engine and its operation as set forth above, on each occasion when
the Model Engine is started up.
(d) Warning to Bystanders. Buyer acknowledges that injury or burns
to bystanders could occur, during the start-up procedure or when
operating the Model Engine. Buyer expressly agrees to take all steps
necessary to assure that no bystander will be in a position to receive
injuries during the start-up procedure, or while the Model Engine is
running.
5.3. Full Assumption of Liability; Waiver and Release of Ultimate-Jets.
Buyer assumes all risk of injury, harm and damage, of every nature
whatsoever, to himself/herself and his/her property. Buyer fully and
completely waives and releases any and all claims which he/she might
have at any time arising out of the purchase, handling, or operation of the
Model Engine. This assumption, waiver and release is complete, full, and
comprehensive.
(a) Release Even If Ultimate-Jets Is Negligent. The waiver and
release contained herein releases Ultimate-Jets from all conduct, no
matter how it could be characterized or alleged. Ultimate-Jets shall
not be liable for its own negligence, whether active, passive, primary,
or secondary. Ultimate-Jets shall not be liable for its sole negligence.
Ultimate-Jets shall not be liable for its willful misconduct. Ultimate-
Jets shall not be liable based on any theory in strict liability in tort.
Ultimate-Jets shall not be liable for any alleged breach of warranty,
whether express or implied, of any nature whatsoever, whether a
warranty of fitness for a particular use, merchantability, or otherwise.
There is no warranty of merchantability; there is no warranty of
fitness for a particular purpose; and there are no warranties which
extend beyond the description on the face hereof or Ultimate-Jets's
One Year Limited Warranty.
(b) Waiver Effective for All Time. The waiver and release contained
herein is effective, without regard to the passage of time. It is
effective indefinitely. It will not be changed by any modification to the
Model Engine, to any later sale, or other changes in circumstances.
(c) Release Extends to Ultimate-Jets and All Its Associates. The
waiver and release contained herein protects Ultimate-Jets, and all
of its employees, officers, principals, owners, designers, and agents
("Associates").

"A general release does not extend to claims which the creditor does not
know or suspect to exist in his favor at the time of executing the release,
which if known by him must have materially affected his settlement with
the debtor."
5.4. No Modifications to Model Engine.
Buyer agrees to make no modifications of any kind to the Model Engine.
This Agreement pertains to the entire life of the Model Engine.
5.5. Sale By Buyer to Other Party.
Buyer agrees to fully inform any person to whom he/she sells or transfers
the Model Engine, concerning the handling, use, and operation of the
Model Engine, and agrees to give all operating instructions to such person,
at or before the time of sale or transfer. The indemnity and hold harmless
agreement contained in Paragraph 3 continues in effect, following such
sale or transfer.
5.6. Severability.
In the event any clause, provision, or term of this Agreement is held to be
ineffective, void or otherwise unenforceable for any reason, that clause,
provision, or term shall be severed from this Agreement, and the
Agreement shall otherwise remain binding and effective. If any portion of
Paragraph 3 is found to be unenforceable, then the parties agree that the
fullest and most complete waiver and release which is permitted by law,
shall be effective.
5.7 . Texas Law Applicable.
The law of the State of Texas shall apply to any and all controversies
which may arise out of or relate to this Agreement, the sale of the Model
Engine, or its ownership, use, or operation.
5.8. Arbitration.
ANY CONTROVERSY OR CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO
THIS AGREEMENT, OR THE BREACH THEREOF, OR THE
OWNERSHIP, USE, OR OPERATION OF THE MODEL ENGINE, SHALL
BE SETTLED BY ARBITRATION ADMINISTERED BY THE JUDICIAL
ARBITRATION AND MEDIATION SERVICE/ENDISPUTE, AT ITS LOS
ANGELES OFFICE, UNDER ITS THEN APPLICABLE RULES AND
