2.1. Limitations on use
Installer
Maintenance

User
UNE ZHERO is a complete electricity production-storage-smart management system that can be used in
different configurations, depending on the needs of the user; the configurations available are described in
section 3.1. The goal is to enable the customer to achieve energy independence by producing energy from
renewable resources, storing it and managing it in an intelligent manner, in such a way as to allow a conscious
and efficient use thereof. UNE ZHERO is intended for use in residential, commercial and industrial environments,
in 230V (single phase) – 50 Hz TT and TN-S. UNE ZHERO is designed to collect the direct current produced by
a suitably sized photovoltaic system, store it and convert it, when needed, into alternating current, which can be
used by the appliance.
Any other use is considered improper or dangerous.
Moreover:
UNE ZHERO cannot be used with photovoltaic modules that require grounding one of the poles.
External batteries not authorised by UNE srl cannot be connected to the system.
UNE ZHERO can be used only if all the technical specifications reported in the technical data sheet are met.
UNE ZHERO can be used only indoors, in environments suitable for IP20 equipment; do not install the device
in inadequate environments or subjected to adverse weather conditions.
Do not install the device in environments that present risks of explosion or fire.
Do not install the device in places with special flammability conditions.
Do not store materials near UNE ZHERO, especially if flammable and/or explosive.
Do not connect devices outside the indicated limitations on use.
Do not use the equipment if any of its safety devices is missing, not working or disabled.
Do not use the protectors built into UNE ZHERO as primary protection of the user system.
Do not use UNE ZHERO without making the necessary ground connections.
The use of the equipment in a manner other than that intended is forbidden.
When using the system in parallel with the local distributor's power grid, please
observe the technical and bureaucratic procedures requested by the regulations in
force in the country where the device is installed.

12
Changing the operating parameters of UNE ZHERO is forbidden; every change must be agreed upon with
the local distributor, in compliance with the laws, especially in the case of on-Grid systems.
Do not use corrosive cleaning products or that generate electrostatic charges.
Do not use the equipment without reading and fully understanding the manuals.
Do not obstruct the ventilation system.
Do not use UNE ZHERO as a UPS since it is not certified for such use.
Do not use UNE ZHERO to power life-support medical devices.
Please contact your supplier for more information.

User
3.1. Overview
Installer
Maintenance
technician
User
UNE ZHERO is a complete system designed to enable the customer to achieve energy independence by
producing energy from renewable resources, storing it and managing it in an intelligent manner, in such a way
as to allow a conscious and efficient use thereof.
Once correctly sized according to your needs and installed, UNE ZHERO will provide the necessary energy to
the electrical appliances.
UNE ZHERO can work in different modes depending on the requirements of the customer and of the place of
installation; some of the working modes are not available in some countries.
On-Grid with backup function:
The system operates in parallel with the existing public grid to which the user is connected; the user will,
therefore, become a prosumer.
Since the device operates in parallel with the grid, the power available to the user will be given by the sum
between the energy provided by UNE ZHERO (that varies depending on the availability of the photovoltaic
module and of the battery and can reach a maximum of 6 kW) and the power provided by the distributor.
A wise use of the system, combined with the correct sizing of the generator, may limit the use of power from
the grid to a minimum, further reducing the operating costs.
In the event of a distributor black-out, the system switches automatically and dynamically to BACKUP mode to
keep the appliances powered until the batteries run out or the power supply from the local distributor is restored.
In the latter case, the system will resume normal on-grid operation.
UNE ZHERO comes with a transfer-to-grid feature that can be enabled in accordance with the local regulations
in force in each country; this function allows transferring the excess energy produced by the photovoltaic
system to the grid.
If the system uses a protection interface, it may cause brief disruptions caused by it
on the “backup” line.
Read carefully section 7.1 and observe the recommendations therein to optimise the
use of the system.

14
Off-Grid:
UNE ZHERO operates independently of any external power grid; it creates its own grid and all the appliances will
be fed exclusively from it.
Since there is no other power grid working in parallel with UNE ZHERO, the only power available to the user is
that provided by UNE ZHERO (the amount of power available varies depending on the availability of the
photovoltaic module and of the battery and can reach a maximum of 6 kW).
If the system consumes all the energy made available, an emergency source (if connected) or a public grid (if
connected, it must be allowed by local regulations) is automatically activated.
The benefits of using UNE ZHERO are:
Complete management system, no need for additional components;
Increased self-consumption for higher energy independence;
Less affected by energy price variations;
Smart operating logic, with the possibility to connect the device to home automation systems;
Ideal for buildings designed to have electricity as the only source of energy (heat pump heating, induction
hobs, etc);
Very low environmental impact.
In the backup working mode, the use of particularly high energy-consuming
appliances may cause the system to malfunction or increase its operating costs.
Contact your supplier to check the suitability of use of particular appliances.

UNE srl disclaims all liability in the event of failure to comply with the standards for
proper installation and is not responsible for the state-of-the-art execution of the
systems upstream or downstream of the supplied equipment.
For obvious reasons, it was impossible to foresee all the installation options or the
environments in which the equipment could be installed; the customer must inform
the authorised installer of any particular installation conditions.
Do not use the product if any malfunction occurred during installation or daily use.
In this case, please contact your authorised installer.
Do not install the device in environments that do not meet the conditions specified
in chapter 5.
