life.Thiscompact pagercombinesmessagingand timekeepingfunctionsina
package thatisconvenient tocarry.
If yourNP88 hasthe symbol, it usesFLEX technology.The FLEX
protocol-based pagersofferextended batterylifeand improved paging reliability.
Tofullyunderstand the featuresthispageroffers, pleasetakeafewminutestoread
thisuser’sguide.
CONTROLS
Buttons
On/Read/Select − turnpageron,readincoming messages,and selectthe
function displayed.
Backlight/Reset − turnthedisplaylightonandresetthepagertothe standby
screen,whichshowstime,date,alarmstatus,and alertstatus.Press
twicetoreset tothestandbyscreen.
Menu -scrollthroughthe menu.
Afterperforminganypagerfunctiondescribedinthisuser’sguide (settingthetime,
date,alarm,and soon),your NP88 automaticallyreturnstothe standbyscreenand
activatesthe selectionsyou made.

FunctionIndicators
Silent Alert − the pageralertswithout audiblealertsforincoming messages.
AudibleAlert − one ofseveralpleasingaudiblealertssoundforan incoming
message.
Alarm −the alarmalertsyou at the set time.
Message Lock − thismessage islocked against deletion.
ContinuousMessage − moremessage information isonthe next screen

Press toturnyourpageron.
Yourpagergivesan alertbyeitherasoundoravibration,indicating itison.After
displaying thepower-upscreen,thetimeofday,thedate,andan alertindicator
areshownon thestandbyscreen.

NOTE: The pagerdisplays the timeand date,butnotan alertmode indicator.Ifthe
alarmisset, the alarmindicator remainson the screenwhen the pagerisoff.
RECEIVINGANDREADING MESSAGES
Your NP88 can receiveup tosixteen 20-charactermessages.When amessage is
received, the pageralertsforeightseconds.
1.Press anybutton tostop thealert.
2.Press todisplaythemessage.
3.Press twicewhilereading yourmessage toreturntothe standbyscreen.
Messageslongerthan 12 charactersdisplayonasecond screen,indicated bythe
symbol.Press todisplaythe second screen.Thesecondscreenisdisplayed
automaticallyafterone minute,even if isnotpressed.
The lastscreenofyourmessage displays the message slotnumberand the time
received.
If amessage isnotread,thepagergivesareminderalerteverytwominutesandthe
screen displays thenumberofunreadmessages(i.e., 1Page,2Pages)until all
messagesareread.
If the pagerreceivesmoremessagesthan itsavailablememorycan hold,the new
message replacesthe oldest read, unlocked message.

Anoverflowconditionoccurswhen allmessage slotsarefilled and anewmessage is
received.Upon receiptofamessage,whilethe pagerisinthe overflowcondition,the
oldestunprotected message isdeleted tostorenewmessages.Inthismode,the
overflowindicatorreplacesthedefault idledisplaywith .Messagesmustbe
read toclearthe overflowdisplay.

1.Press toturnthe light on.
2.Toturnthe lightoff, press again.Thelightturnsoffautomaticallyafter
returning tothe standbyscreen.
CHANGINGALERTMODES
1.Press until isdisplayed.
2.Press againandthe current alert mode isdisplayed.
3.Press untilthe desired alert mode isdisplayed. (Audio, Vibrate, Chirp, Silent)
4.Press toselectthealertmode and thepagerwill returntothe standby
screen then chirp, vibrateorsilent dependingon alert mode selection.
Foryourpagertoalertaudiblywhen amessage isreceived,itmustbe in “Audio”or
“chirp”mode.Foryourpagertobe silentwhen amessage isreceived,itmustbe in
“Silent”mode.
SELECTINGANAUDIBLEALERT
1.Press until isdisplayed.
2.Press againandthe currentalertnumberisdisplayed,for
example: , and thepagergivesasampleof thealert tone.
3.Press untilthedesired alerttype isdisplayed.Aseachalertnumberis
displayed, thepagergivesasampleof thealert tone.
4.Press toselectthealertnumber,setthe alerttone tobe used,andreturn
tothe standbyscreen.Whenmessagesarereceived,yourpagergivesthe
selected Audioalert onlywhen inthe audiblemode .

SAVING MESSAGES
1.Tosaveamessage,press whilereadingyourmessage.The prompt
isdisplayed.
2.Press toprotect themessage.
The symbolindicatesthat yourmessage issaved.
3.Press whilereading the savedmessage toremovethe protection.The
prompt isdisplayed.

The symbolisremoved fromthe screen.
Saved messagescannotbe erased oroverwritten bynewmessageswhen memoryis
full. You can saveup toeight messages.
ERASINGALLMESSAGES
1.Press until isdisplayed.
2.Press .Yourread,unprotected messagesareerased.Thepagerreturnsto
the standbyscreen.
The promptisdisplayed onlyifthereareread andunprotected
messagesinmemory.
SELECTIVE ERASINGOFMESSAGES
1.Press twicewhilereading amessage and the prompt isdisplayed.
2.Press todeletethe message and returntothestandbyscreen.
Onlyunprotected messagescan bedeleted.

Your NP88 canhelpyou keepincontactwitheveryoneimportanttoyou...children
orchildcareproviders,businessoffice,dataservices,and voicemail.Besurethat
yourchildren’sschool,physician,and friendshavethe numbertocontactyou in
emergencies.
Giveyourpagernumbertofamily,friends,and associatestoassurecontactatany
time, anyplace.When theycallyourpagernumber, theyenterthe numberwherethey
can be reached on atone-type telephone.Thisnumberisthen displayed on your
NP88.
If you haveacellularphone,giveyourpagernumberinsteadofyourcellularnumber.
Then you can decide whomtocall back,withoutpaying forincoming cellularcalls.
Your NP88 can helpreduceyourmonthlycellularphonebill!
BATTERYINFORMATION
Your NP88 isdesigned tooperatewithanAAA-sizealkalinebattery.The battery
doorislocated onthe back of thepager.
FEATURES
Backlight: Inlow-lightconditions,thebacklightmakesthe screeneasytoread.
DuplicateMessages: If thesamemessage isreceived morethanonce,
isdisplayedatthe beginning ofthe latestmessage.Thismessage containsthe latest
timestampand preventsarepeatedmessage fromtaking an extramemoryslot.

LowBatteryIndicator: When batterypowerreacheslowlevels, is
displayed,prompting youtochange the battery.Allpageralertschange totwo
secondsinlength.
MessageErase: Messagescanbe erased allatonceorselectivelyatyourchoiceto
free spaceinmemory.
MemoryRetention: All messagesremaininmemory,even when the pagerisoff and
whilethe batteryisbeing replaced.
MemoryCapacity: The NP88 can storeup tosixteen 20-charactermessages,fora
totalof 320characters.
MessageProtect: You can protectup toeightmessagesstored inthe pager
memory.
Overflow: isdisplayedwhen allmessage slotsarefilled andanew
message isreceived.Afteryou read allofyourunreadmessages,the standbyscreen
isdisplayed.
AutomaticAlertReset: The pagercanbeprogrammed toprovideanalerttonefora
period of2,8or16 secondsinduration upon receipt of amessage.
ContinueAlert ((NonFLEX Pagersonly): The pagercan be programmed toprovide
acontinuousalerttone uponreceiptofamessage.The alerttone willcontinueuntila
button isdepressed.
FunctionalAddress Alert(NonFLEX Pagersonly): The pagercanbeprogrammed
toprovideadifferent Alert Tone foreachFunctionalAddress (eighttotal).
PersonalAlarm: Thisalarmcan be settoalertyou.The alarmworks even when the
pagerisoff.

ReminderAlert: The pagerchirpsorvibrateseverytwominutesuntilyouread all
unread messages.
StandbyScreen: The standbyscreendisplaysthe timeofday/dateand the
indicators.
TimeofDayandDay/Month: The timeofdayandthedatedisplaywhetherthe
pagerisonoroff.
Timestamp: The timeofdayamessage isreceivedisdisplayed on the lastscreen of
eachmessage.
UserSelectableAudibleAlerts: Aselectionofsixalerttonesgivesyou achoiceof
message alertsheardwhen youarepagedinthe audiblealert mode

Tocleanthepagerhousing,useasoft,non-abrasiveclothmoistened inamildsoap
and watersolution.Wipethesurfaceusing asecondclothmoistenedincleanwater.
Donotplace inwater. Donotuse alcoholorothercleaningsolutions.

Your NP88,properlyhandled,iscapableofmanyyearsoftrouble-free service.
