SAFETY NOTES
This manual provides important safety information on the correct way to use this product. Please read thoroughly
before using your TCS Pro500 to avoid misuse and/or damage.
The TCS Pro500 to is a precision instrument; handle
it carefully.
Before moving, turn of the unit and remove all power
cords and other adapters to avoid tripping and to
prevent damage.
To prevent damage, DO NOT snap, drop or hit the
CMOS sensor on the camera.
UNITRON is not responsible for internal memory loss
of the unit resulting from misuse, damage, improper
maintenance, etc. (Please operate according to the
user manuals.
DO NOT dismantle the unit.
DO NOT use alcohol, diluents or benzol to clean the
surface. Use only a lint-free cloth to clean the
screen.
Keep away from all liquids to avoid accidental
spillage/damage.
DO NOT operate the unit when the product is wet to
avoid electric shock or damage.
Use only in an environment where the temperature is
maintained between 10-35ºC or 50-95ºF with
humidity 20-80%.
DO NOT expose to direct sunlight to avoid distortion
and fire.
Keep in a dust-free environment to avoid damage to
the unit and image quality.
Keep away from electromagnetic fields and electrical
instruments such as radios, speakers, etc. Audio
speakers may create a strong magnetic field –a
magnetic field may cause data loss or damage to the
LCD screen.
Use only the included A/C adapter to charge the
battery. Other adapters may cause fire or damage.
DO NOT use loose or damaged power plug –doing
so may result in electric shock, fire or damage.
Ensure the correct voltage, current and the correct
ground connection for the power socket are used to
avoid electric shock, fire or damage.
DO NOT place heavy objects on the power cord.
For maximum protection, the power cord should be
plugged into a surge protector.
Mercury is present in the LCD fluorescent screen. If
the LCD screen is damaged and liquid comes in
contact with eyes or skin, wash the affected area
immediately with water.
DO NOT use a sharp object to touch the screen as
the screen can scratch and become permanently
damaged.
DO NOT expose the battery to environments above
60ºC or 140ºF; fire or explosion may occur.
Keep out of reach of children.

INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on the purchase of your new UNITRON TCS Pro500. UNITRON instruments are engineered and
manufactured to the highest quality standards. UNITRON instruments are carefully inspected and tested by our
staff of trained technicians in our New York facility. Careful quality control procedures ensure each TCS Pro500 is of
the highest quality prior to shipment.
UNPACKING AND COMPONENTS
Your TCS Pro500 arrived packed in a molded Styrofoam container. Do not discard the container: the Styrofoam
container should be retained for reshipment of your TCS Pro500 if needed.Avoid placing the TCS Pro500 in dusty
surroundings or in high temperature or humid areas as mold and mildew will form. Carefully remove the TCS Pro
500 from the Styrofoam container and place it on a flat, vibration-free surface and away from electromagnetic fields.
Your TCS Pro500 comes with anA/C power cord and with a mini USB adapter.
CARING FOR THE CAMERA LENS
If dust is found on the camera lens, clean using canned air or an air bulb to remove dust or dirt that may have
accumulated on the lens surface.
If more persistent dust or dirt is found, please consult with an authorized UNITRON distributor for assistance. To
locate a UNITRON distributor near you, please call UNITRON at 631-543-2000.

Battery Maintenance & Charging
When the low battery warning window appears on the screen, you should immediately charge the battery.
How to Charge the Battery

When the battery is fully charged, this picture will
appear on the screen:
NOTES:
If the TCS Pro500 is not used for a long period of time, it must be charged at least once per month to avoid
depleting the battery.
It takes longer to charge the battery when operating the TCS Pro500 at the same time.
When the TCS Pro500 shuts down for shortage of power, low power reminder will appear after you plug in the
adapter. After charging for a while, the TCS Pro500 will get enough power to go into the main interface
automatically.
It takes approximately 12-15 hours to charge the TCS Pro500.The TCS Pro500 was charged initially before
shipment, however, the battery discharges power when not being used.
Button Operations
Power Button
To Turn the Power On: TOUCH the power button for 5
seconds.
If the TCS Pro500 is On, but in Sleep Mode: PRESS the
power button once to move into ready mode.
PRESS the power button for 5 seconds to turn the power-
off and TOUCH "OK" to shut down the equipment on the
pop-up screen (shown left).
CAUTION: PRESSING the power button for 8 seconds will
reset the TCS Pro500 (i.e., date, time). Use this function
with caution.

Return Button
To return to the previous screen: PRESS the return
button ONCE.
To return to the Home Screen: PRESS and HOLD the
return button.
Volume Decrease (-) / Menu Button
PRESS the Volume Decrease / Menu button ONCE to
bring up the settings menu along the bottom of the
screen
PRESS and HOLD the Volume Decrease / Menu button
for 5 seconds to bring up the Volume Menu. You can
lower the volume by one increment by pressing the
button for 0.5 second.

Button
PRESS the Volume Increase / Search button
ONCE to move into Search mode.
PRESS and HOLD the Volume Increase / Search
button for 5 seconds to bring up the Volume
Menu. You can raise the volume by one
increment by pressing the button for 0.5 second.
Screen Rotation On/Off Button
The rotation of the screen can be turned on or off
depending on user preference by sliding the
button to the appropriate position.
Reset Button
If the TCS Pro500 freezes and the system cannot
be shut down using normal methods, you can use
a fine-shaped object (such as the end of a paper
clip) to reset the system by pressing the reset
button (See Side Controls on p. 3) the side panel
to force shut down.
Frequent use of the Reset button may cause data
loss, so use with caution.

Touch Screen
The TCS Pro500 is a 5-point touch screen –all operations can be achieved by touch
One TOUCH Operation
TOUCH the Applications icon on the right
side of the screen to go to the main
menu/applications screen.
If the system is running slowly or some processes
are always blocked, TOUCH the icon to
close all currently running programs.
Continuous TOUCH Operation
TOUCH and hold the screen until related menu
appears.
Glide Operation
TOUCH and glide your finger on the screen until
in the direction you want to get the gliding effect.

Accessory Installation/Adapters
The TCS Pro500 is equipped with a standard C-type interface. It can be threaded on both C-mount and eyepiece
adapters and is compatible with monocular, binocular, trinocular heads
Connection Components
C-Mount Adapters –0.5x and 1x C-mount adapters are sold separately and can be purchased from your
UNITRON distributor.
EyepieceAdapter Kit –sold separately and can be purchased from your UNITRON distributor. Kit includes a
0.5x adapter with Ф23mm, Ф30mm and Ф30.5mm adapter rings for different diameter eyepieces holders.
Installation
Connection Via C-mount Adapter: Screw the TCS Pro500 onto the C-mount adapter first, then insert the C-
mount adapter bottom into the trinocular tube (see above).
Note: C-mount adapters look different depending on the microscope –however, as long as the threads on the
adapter you want to use are standard C-mount type, it will work with the TCS Pro500.

Installation
Connection Via Eyepiece Adapter: Thread the upper end of the eyepiece adapter onto the TCS Pro500
adapter (See (A) below). Insert the bottom end of the eyepiece adapter into the ocular tube with a diameter of
Ф23mm.
If the diameter of the ocular tube is too large, an optional adapter ring needs to be added onto the ocular tube.
There are two sizes of adapter rings with diameters of Ф30mm and Ф30.5mm (See (B) below).
Insert the eyepiece adapter into the adapter ring and then insert the adapter ring into the ocular tube (See (C)
below).
CAUTION
The wide angle view of the TCS Pro500 is adjustable to
0-90ºincline. DO NOT attempt to rotate the screen beyond
this incline.
Rotating the screen too frequently may cause damage.
For instructions on adjusting the incline, please refer to the
QUICK START GUIDE.

Software Applications & Operation
Unlocking the TCS Pro500
TOUCH and drag the lock icon upwards to unlock the
TCS Pro500.
Note: the TCS Pro500 will lock when it goes
into timeout/sleep mode –the default setting is set to
10 minutes.
Using the Camera
TOUCH the Camera icon to go to the Image
Capture software.
NOTE: To return to the Home Screen, PRESS the
Return button on the right side of the TCS Pro500.

OVERVIEW
PREVIEW:TOUCH the PREVIEW icon to go into the photo gallery to preview, share, delete and edit
photos or videos.
MANUAL WHITE BALANCE:TOUCH the WHITE BALANCE icon -- the system will automatically
perform a white balance and SAVE the setting.
PHOTO & VIDEO FUNCTIONS:To change between image capturing with the camera and video
functions simply slide the setting on the CAMERA/VIDEO icon to the appropriate setting.
CAMERA:TOUCH the SHUTTER icon to capture an image. The image is automatically saved in the
image Gallery of the internal memory automatically.
VIDEO:(Drag the round icon SEE PHOTO & VIDEO FUNCTIONS above) to video mode. TOUCH
the (video) SHUTTER icon to start recording; TOUCH it again to stop recording, the video will be
saved automatically.

CHANGING SETTINGS
WHITE BALANCE:When “AUTO WHITE BALANCE” mode is selected, the color and
brightness of an image will be adjusted to the best automatically according to the current
lighting environment.
The MANUAL WHITE BALANCE uses two methods to set the White Balance based on
different types of microscopes as follows:
REFLECTED Light –when the illumination of the microscope is reflected light (such as
stereo and metallurgical microscopes), place a white piece of paper onto the microscope.
TOUCH the WHITE BALANCE icon to process the white balance automatically. The
preferred color background after completing the White Balance will be a whitish color with a
soft gray background. When the setting is finished, TOUCH the Set icon that appears –the
system will save the current White Balance and “Set white balance successful” will appear
on the screen.
TRANSMITTED Light –when the illumination of the microscope is transmitted light (such
as with a biological compound microscope), position a blank section of a slide on the
microscope. Adjust the light source to get a suitable brightness. TOUCH the White
Balance icon –the system will process the White Balance automatically. When the setting
is finished, TOUCH the Set icon that appears -- the system will save the current White
Balance and “Set white balance successful” will appear on the screen.

EXPOSURE SET:Two Exposure set modes can be selected: Manual Mode and
Auto Mode.
When Auto Mode is selected, the exposure data will be adjusted automatically
according to the current light environment.
When Manual Mode is selected, you can change the exposure data.
NOTE: “Manual Mode” for Exposure and “Manual White Balance” should be used in
conjunction with each other. The exposure data is set as low as possible –the longer
the exposure time, the slower the frame rate speed).
CONTRAST & SATURATION: TOUCH and DRAG the rectangles icon on the
parameter menu bar to adjust the “Contrast” and “Saturation” values – a “Contrast”
value of 4 or less is recommended.
GRID FUNCTION:The system default setting for the grid/crossline is set to appear
on the image preview space automatically. If you want to remove the grid/crossline,
TOUCH “Off” on the Grid menu. TOUCH “On” to have the grid/crossline appear.

PICTURE SIZE (PIXEL) SELECTION:The system default resolution is set to the
highest resolution of 5M Pixels (5MP) or 2592 x 1936. You can change the image size
by TOUCHING any of the other selections.
NOTE: Video mode system default resolution is set to the highest resolution of 720P
(1280 x 720). You can change the resolution to a lower setting (640 x 480) by
TOUCHING the “HD”icon on the bottom right of the TCS Pro500 screen and
TOUCHING the D1 (640 x 480) –the “HD” button will change to “Low”. You can
change back to “HD” by TOUCHING the “Low” icon and then TOUCHING the 720P
setting.
POWER FREQUENCY SELECTION: Flicker reduction selection:Due to different
electrical frequencies in different countries, you should select the correct electrical
frequency for your country's standard. The system default is set to"60 Hz" which is the
frequency in the United States. If you select improperly you may see noise waves
moving across your screen. To change the frequency, TOUCH the desired frequency
under the "Flicker” reduction menu.
PREVIEW: TOUCH the PREVIEW icon to go into the photo gallery. Using your finger,
DRAG to glide the screen left or right to view images in the gallery. You can Share or
Delete the image, or with the “More” menu, Crop, and Rotate the image.
DOUBLE-TAP the image to enlarge it –DOUBLE-TAP the image to reduce it back to
the view size. You can also view the areas when enlarged by using your finger to drag
different areas of the image into view. To return to the Image Capture software,
TOUCH the RETURN button the right side of the pad or the Camera icon on the top
right.

IMAGE GALLERY: From the
Applications screen, TOUCH the Gallery
icon to go into the Gallery Preview.
TOUCH any photo for 2 seconds, then
TOUCH the pane on the top right corner
of the photo or video –a green check
mark will appear which indicates it has
been selected. You can then share,
delete and edit.

File Storage
There are three was to store images and
videos on the TCS Pro500: the local
storage, the micro SD Card slot, and the
external USB Flash drive/disk storage.
ES File Explorer: to access any of the
storage types, TOUCH the ES File
Explorer icon from the Applications screen
to open ES File Explorer.
DCIM (sdcard/DCIM) folder corresponds
to the local/hard drive storage.
extsd folder corresponds to the micro SD
card –the micro SD card may need to be
installed in the slot for this folder to appear
in ES File Explorer.
udisk folder corresponds to the external
USB Flash drive/disk. The USB Flash
drive may need to be connected for this
folder to appear in ES File Explorer
Refer to the QUICK START GUIDE for
more information on how to browse, copy,
cut, past and delete files to and from the
micro SD Card and the USB Flash drive.

Copying Files to PC Via USB 2.0 Interface
1. CONNECT the TCS Pro500 to
your PC with a USB 2.0 cable via
the mini USB 2.0 cable port on the
side of the TCS Pro500.
2. On the PC, CLICK “Cancel” on
the pop up window that reads
“Windows needs to install driver
software for your MX53 SMD
Android.”
3. On the TCS Pro500’s Home
Screen, TOUCH and SLIDE DOWN
the top black pull down menu which
is now the USB Connect Menu.
4. On the TCS Pro500, TOUCH
the USB connected bar, then
TOUCH the “Turn on USB storage”
button on the bottom right of the
screen.
5. TOUCH the OK button on the
pop up screen that reads “If you turn
on USB Storage, some applications
you are using will stop and may be
unavailable until you turn off USB
storage.”

6. On the PC, CLICK “Continue without
scanning”to close the pop up window that
asks “Do you want scan and fix the Sd
Card (G:)?”
7. On the PC, CLICK “Open folder to
view files.”
You can now locate files from the PC you
want to copy to the TCS Pro500 and vice
versa using the drag and drop methods
with your mouse.
8. When finished, on the TCS Pro500
TOUCH the “Turn off USB storage” button
on the bottom right of the screen.
9. TOUCH the Home button (upper left)
OR the back button (upper right) to return
to the Home screen, and then disconnect
the USB cable from the PC and TCS Pro
500 to resume using the TCS Pro500.
