Adjust the Binoculars to Fit Your Interpupillary Distance
Your interpupillary distance (IPD) is the distance between the centers of your two eye
pupils. To have a comfortable observation experience, the distance between the centers of
the eyepieces should be set as close to your IPD as possible.
Rotate the barrels of your binoculars inward or outward so as to align the exit pupils of your
binoculars to your eyes until the two views from the two barrels perfectly overlaps each
other free of shading.
Properly Focus to Get a Clear View
Notice that the focusing mechanism for binoculars falls in 3 categories: Fixed Focus,
Individual Focus, and Centre Focus.
For a Fixed Focus binoculars, the binoculars is designed without a focusing mechanism
and o er a generous depth of view that you won’t be able to and don’t need to adjust the
focus.
For a binoculars with Individual Focus, you’ll need to adjust the focus of each ocular
separately each time you  nd a new target out of the original focus range. Follow the below
steps to focus on the target and get a clear view:
Step 1: Select a target you are going to observe.
Step 2: With one of your eye open and the other closed, turn the focusing ring of the
corresponding ocular left or right until you see the target clearly.
Step 3: Swap the open and closed eyes, look through the other ocular at the same target,
turning the focusing ring of the corresponding ocular left or right until you see the target
clearly.
Repeat the above procedure if you want to observe another target out of the focus range of
the previous setting.
A binoculars with Centre Focus are designed with a Dioptre Compensation mechanism for
the right ocular. Notice that most Centre Focus binoculars have the dioptre ring on the right
ocular, yet there are some models having the dioptre ring on the centre hinge or integrated
in the focusing ring.
For a binoculars with Centre Focus, follow the below steps to properly focus and get a clear
view:
