Thank you for choosing the Vaillant TURBOmaxcombination boiler.The
informatian given in thisbaokletwill enable youta obtain thebest
performance fram the bailer.
The TURBOmaxprovidesboth central heating and domestic hat water,with
the damestic hat water supplied directly from the boiler.The boiler will
operate automatically to pravide domestic hat water whenever a hat water
tap isopened,and automatically adjusts to meet the demand far bath
central heating and domestic hat water in the most ecanamical way.
Because the TURBOmaxaperates at a high effeciency,a plume of water
vapaur may be visible at the 11ue terminal in cold weather.Thisisquite
normal and shaws that the boiler is operating correctly.
If,after reading these instructions, yau have any questions an the operation
of the boiler,please contact either yaurinstaller or Vaillant Technical
Deportment. -
Please keep these instructions in thespecial pocketprovided
in the boiler front panel (5, page 20). inthis waythey will
always be handy for future reference.

Important notes
• Please nate that the TURBOmaxmust be installedand serviced bya
campetent persan in accordancewith theGasSafety (lnstallatian and Use)
Regulations 1994.(Inthe U.K: CORGI registered installersundertake the work
ta a safeand satisfactory standard).
• Ifagasleak ar fault issuspected,turn off thebailer and consult yaurgas supplier,
service agent ar othercampetent persan.
• Ifthe ·bailer is installed in a compartment da nat obstruct any purpose provided
ventilatianapenings, anddo not use thecampartmentfarstaragepurpases.
•The fallawing minimum clearances araund thebailer case shauld bemaintained:
5 mm either side150 mm belaw 165 mm abave
• ElectricitySupply. Warning: Thisbailer must be earthed.The electricity cannectian
ta the boiler must be fram a 230V-50Hz. supply.If a mains plug connectian is
used it mustbe af a three pin type and cantain a 3A fuse.

Check supply pipes
Ensurecold water shut off valve @) is open(thiscon bechecked byopening 0 hot top
and ensuring water flows).Also check that both the flow and return centralheating
service valves CD and ® and the gas service valve CD ore open. (The flow,return
and gas service valves ore open when the linemarking isin the some direction osthe
pipe)..
Thepressurerelief valve ® isprovided forsafetyreasonsand must not beinterfered
with.

Check water contents
Open thelowerdoorby pulling outwards. Check the water contents of the system.The
white hand on the lowerscale of the pressure andtemperature gouge ® should be
between 1 and 1.5 bar. If the hand isbelow0.8 bar when the system iscold,your
installer should be called to refill thesystem.
The top scaleof the pressure and temperaturegouge shows the temperature ofwaterin
the central heating circuit..

Domestic hot water operation
Turning on Main On/Off Control-
Withthe main on/off control Q) in the off position ('0'l,ondthecentrol heoting

Obtaining hot water
On opening a hot watertap @ at a supply point (basin, shower,bath, etc.)the boiler
will operate automatically to provide hot water.(A short deloy may be experiencedin
obtaining hot water at the tap, depending on the length of pipeworkand your system
layout.Thisdelaycan be reduced by not fully opening the tap until the water isflowing
at the desired temperature).
With the tap fully openyou will receive the maximum flow rate ofhot water.Should
you requirehotter water reduce the flow by partially closing the tap.
On c1asing thetap the boiler automaticallyswitchesoff(or continues to operate for
centralheating if required). The pump may coniinue to operate for a short
period.

Setting Maximum Domestic Hot Water Control
The maximum domestic hot water temperature con be adjusted using the hot water
temperature control CD .
Turn thecontrol:
Clockwise to Increase (maximum setting = 9)
Anti-clockwise to Decrease (minimum setting = 1)
Asa guide,for normal cjrcumstoncesthe maximum hot water temperature should be
set to 6
Nole: This control adjusts the moximum domestic hot woter temperoture. If odjusting thecontrol upwords
oppeorstohoveno effect on thetemperoture, thentheboiler isolreody operoting ot full output for the selected
flow role.If hotter water isrequired,the flow rote should bereduced byportiolly dosing thehot woter top.

Setting the Maximum RadiatorTemperature Control
The moximum rodiotor temperoturecontrol CD mointoinsthetemperotureof woter to
the centrol heoting circuit ot the desired level.Thistemperoture is indicoted on the
pressure ond temperoture gouge ® during heoting operation.
Turn the control:
Clockwise to Increase (maximum setting = 9)
Anti-Clockwise to Decrease (minimum setting = 1)

Setting external controls
Set the room thermostot ® and/or thermostatic radiator volves @ occording to the
instructions supplied with the control(s). Set the externol time control to thedesired on
and off periods.
Note: A room thermostat or a room thermostatandthermostatic radiator valves will providemore accurate and
economic control compared to 0 heating system without these controls.
If your TURBOmoxis fittedwith 0 built in time clock, set thisaccording tothe
instructions supplied with the clock.

Switching on Central Heating Control
Turn the central heating cantrol CD to nut J , position.Theboiler willnowaperate
automatically to provide central heating forthe conditionsselected on the external
controls. (On this settingtheTURBOmax willalso provide domestic hot water).
The temperature gauge CD indicates the temperature of water to the central heating
circuit.After the boiler stopsoperating the pump may continueto operatefor a short
period to fully disperse the heat from theboiler.
Nole: The boiler incorporates on·integrol'onti·cycling'economisercontrol to prevent energy wasteful on and
off operation of theboiler for short periods when in the centrol heating mode.When turning theroom
thermostat or boiler thermostat to 0 higher setting there may thereforebe 0 short delay before theboiler
operates.
In the summer time, when central heating isnotrequired,turn the central heating
control CD into the' J)' position.
Nole: If 0 hotwater topisopened during centralheating operation,the boilerwill momentarilyswitch off
beforeautomatically igniting to provide hotwater.

Indicator lights
TheVaillant TURBOmaxincorporates indicator lightsto showthe
operational statusofthe boiler.When th~ boiler is operating correctly the
lights will illuminate in 0 given sequence,depending on whether heating
or hotwater isbeingsupplied(seefig.9).
0/1 power on indicator'
illuminates whenever themain ani off switch isset to theon (I)
positionand electricity isbeing supplied to theboiler.
./.' hotwater demand indicator
illuminates whenever 0 hot top is openedandthere is 0 demand for
hot water.
nm central heating demand indicator
illuminates wheneverthere is 0 demand for centralheating.
Note: Ifthe external (ontrols ore not <oilingfor heat (e.g.theroom thermostat hasreo(hed
temperature) this indimtor will go out. This is perfe(tly normal.
f fan operation indicator
illuminatesduring boiler operation to showthat the fan and flue
system ore functioning correctly.
I ignition indicator
illuminates to show that the gasvalve hasopenedand that the boiler
is irying to ignite.
o flameindicator .
illuminates toshowthat theburner has litto provide either central
heating or hot water.
k burner lock out indicator
illuminates whenever the boilerhas tried and foiled to light.Turn the
central heating controlto the resetposition' 0 ' to restort the
boiler.If the boilerrepeatedly foilsto light contact your service agent
or VoillontService.
Note: In the unlikely event of 0 fault developingthese indi(otor lights(on beusedto help
rectify theproblem.'If (onto(ting Voillont Service please remember to advise which lights,if
any,ore illuminated.

When 0 hot water top is opened orthe central heating system requires heat, the boiler
automatically ignitesand starts to operate.If no automatic ignition occurs within 0 set
period ofabout 10 seconds, the boiler will not start and the burner lock out indicator
will illuminate (see IndicatorLights).A further ignition attempt con only take place
once thecentral heating control CD hasbeen turned briefly to the reset position
Q and released.If,after attempting to light the boiler by turning to the reset position,
theboiler shuts down again,consult your service agent or Vaillant Service.
Note: Particularly when starting up for the first time,or after the boilerhasbeen out of operation for 0 fairly
long period,itmay be necessary to turn thecentralheating controlto the resetposition severaltimesbefore
ignition takes place.

To turn off the central heating only. Turn the central heating control Q) to
,f:\ position (Normal positionduring summer time).
To turn off the heating and hot water for short periods of time. Turn
the main on/off control CD to the 0 position.Should you leave for 0 longer time,
and there is no danger of frost(e.g.summer holidays), you should also switch off the
electrical supply and turnoff the gas supply.

If theboiler isnot operated for severalhoursduring very cold weather
there is the possibility of the system freezing.Pleaseensure that if you
oreabsent during a period of frost the central heating system remainsin
operation and all raams are kept above freeZing point.(It must be
remembered, however,thattheboilerwillbe automatically switched aff
by the built-in monitoring devices ifcertain foultsoccur, e. g.interruption
in thegasor electricity supplyor faults in the flue gas-system. To
overcomethispossibility you can drain both thecentral heating system
and the boiler).
Clean the outer casing with a dampcloth and a little soap.Do not use any
abrasives or solventcleaningmaterial which coulddamagethecase or plastic
fittings.
It isimpartant that the boiler isserviced at least once ayear by a competent
.service company.To ensure regular servicing it is strongly recommended that
.arrangementsare made with your serviceagent or Vaillant ltd.for a
Maintoinence Agreement.Pleasereturnthe registration card if you would
like further details.

Function checks.
Inthe unlikely event that 0 problem occurs with theoperation of the
TURBOmaxcombination boiler, thefollowingpoints should bechecked:
1. Boiler foilsto operate
-Check gas supply is turned on (see page 6)
- Check water supplyis turned on (see page 6)
-Check water contents(see page 7)
-Check electricity supplyis switched on (see page 8)
-Check mainon/off (0/1) control isturned to the onposition (I)
(see page 8)
-Check boilerreset control (see page 16)
2.Hot Wateroperatesbut not centralheating
-Check central heating service valves ore open (see page 6).
Check externalcontrols are calling for heat (see page 12)
- Check central heating contral isin the (mn~) position (see page13)
The anti-cycling economisercontrolmay be engaged, please wait a
short time before trying tooperate heating again.
If these actions do not result in the correct operation of theboiler please
consult your installer.
