CP-4900 Micro-GC
Firmware Update Manual
The procedures outlined in this document are to be
implemented by trained Varian Service personnel only
and are not intended for Customer use.
The information provided in this manual will help you to install firmware Updates for the
CP-4900 Micro-GC.

Installation of the Micro-GC Firmware Update Tool.
1. When selecting the Firmware update tool it will install the MPU Firmware setup and the
VirtualBox Software to perform an update from V1.40 to V2.12.
2. Click next.

3. Please read the license agreement carefully, if agreed select” “I agree to the terms of
this License agreement” then click next, to continue with the next step.
4. Default the program will be installed in:
C:\Program Files\CP-4900 Tools\Firmware Update\2.12 then click next.

5. Shortcut will be created, click next.
6. Click Next to start installation.

7. Click Finish to complete the installation.
8. After installation of the MPU Setup it will install the VirtualBox, this can take several
minutes.
9. Click next.

10.Please read the license agreement carefully, if agreed select” “I agree to the terms of
this License agreement” then click next, to continue with the next step.
11.No changes necessary, click next.

12.Select the way you want features to be installed.
13.Proceed with installation now, click YES.

14.Click install to start installation.
15.Depending on the Windows settings, it is possible that the above message will popup
several times that the Virtual software is not passed Microsoft LOGO, click “ Continue
Anyway”.

16.Uncheck the Start Sun xVM VitualBox after installation, click Finish.
17.Click yes to start the Update.

18.Enter the IP address of the CP-4900 Micro-GC and select Get MPU version, this
Update can only be done with V1.40 or higher.
Click “ Update Firmware” and the update will start.
19.Hit “Enter”.

20.Select the keyboard eg. when your keyboard is French then type in fr followed by
“enter”, if the Keyboard is default (US keyboard) then hit “Enter”.
21.When the prompt “ root@sysresccd /root % “ appears then type in the following
command:
./startUpdate
NOTE: The command is case sensitive, so type in exactly these words.

22.Press Ctrl+C to finalize the Update, wait until the Micro-GC is ready.
23.Press in the right corner X
24.Select “ Power off the machine” and click OK.

25.When the Micro-GC is ready, click “Get MPU Version” : the current firmware must be
upgraded to version 2.12.
26.The instrument is now upgraded to V2.12, if the instrument is a CP4900 PRO, you
need to upgrade the PROstation software. (CP-4900 PRO software tools partnumber
CP741409).
