Introduction
The information in this manual covers the installation of the Vicon Monitor Rack-Mounting Kits. These units
should be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials. Read these instructions through
completely before attempting installation.
The Vicon Monitor Rack-Mounting Kits are designed to permit mounting Vicon video monitors in an EIA standard
19-inch equipment rack.

Installation
Unpacking and Inspection
All Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving the factory. It is the carrier’s responsibility to deliver
the equipment in the same condition as it left the factory.
Inspection For Visible Damage
Immediately inspect the cartons upon delivery. Make a note of any visible damage on all copies of the carrier’s
freight bill.
Make sure the carrier’s agent (the person making the delivery) signs the note on all copies of the bill. If the agent
does not have claim forms, contact the carrier’s office.
Inspection For Concealed Damage
As soon as possible after delivery, unpack the unit and inspect it for concealed damage. Do not discard the
carton or packing materials. If the unit is damaged, contact the carrier immediately and request forms for filing a
damage claim. Make arrangements for a representative of the carrier to inspect the damaged equipment.
If the equipment must be returned for repair, follow the Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual.
Kit Contents
Prior to starting assembly, become familiar with the components in the mounting kit. Refer to Figure 1. The
rack-mounting kit includes the following parts:
Baseplate
Left side support bracket
Right side support bracket
Front bezel.

4•• Installation X517 Rev 798 Monitor Rack-Mounting Kits
Additionally, the accessory kit supplied contains a variety of screws and hardware required to assemble the rack
mount. Refer to Table 1. In addition to these screws, six screws of a type suitable to attach the monitor mount
to the EIA rack are required. These are commonly No. 10-32 screws, but individual rack manufacturers may use
other types.

Assembling the Baseplate to the Monitor
To assemble the baseplate to the monitor(s), use the following procedure.
1. Turn the monitor(s) upside down on a clean, flat work space, making sure that the front of the monitor(s) is
accessible.
2. Remove the screws securing the monitor feet. Retain these screws. If the VM5123 monitor has feet with
screws in them, continue with step 3. If the VM5123 has feet held on by rivets, do not remove the feet and
go directly to step 5.
3. Replace the monitor feet with the spacers supplied in the accessory pack, but do not insert screws at this
time.
4. For all monitors except the VM5123 with rivetted feet: Turn the baseplate upside down and center it on the
spacers. The flanges on the front and rear edges bend toward the bottom of the baseplate. Be sure the front
of the baseplate faces the front of the monitor. (The word FRONT is stamped on the baseplate.) Using the
screws from the monitor’s feet (use the metric screws supplied with the VM5123RK for VM5123 monitors
with feet with screws), attach the baseplate to the monitor.
5. For VM5123 with rivetted feet: Remove the five screws from the monitor bottom. Discard these screws.
Install the baseplate to the monitor bottom by aligning the holes in the baseplate with the five holes in the
monitor bottom and secure it with the five sheet metal screws provided in the accessory kit.
6. Turn the assembly right side up.

Assembling the Side Support Brackets to the EIA Rack
The right and left side supports mount directly to the EIA rack. Refer to Figure 1. The side supports can be
identified by their triangular shapes.
1. Position the side supports so that there is enough clearance to attach the front bezel.
2. Attach each side support to the rack using three screws compatible with the rack’s screw holes. These
screws are not included in the accessory kit.
Assembling the Monitor/Baseplate to the Side Supports
The baseplate has two tabs bent down on each end. Note that each side support has two corresponding slots.
Refer to Figure 1.
1. Carefully lift the monitor/baseplate assembly into position between the side brackets, with the front of the
monitor facing the front of the rack. Position the monitor/baseplate assembly so that the tabs on the
baseplate go into the slots in the side supports. Take care that all four tabs are properly seated.
2. Lock the baseplate into position using the No. 6 x 1/2 inch self tapping screws from the accessory kit. Refer
to Figure 2. Find the upward-bent tab on the rearmost point of each side support. Thread one screw into
each tab from rear to front. Some force may be required, since the screws are cutting threads in the metal of
the side support.
3. The remaining two self-tapping screws are inserted through the front flange of the baseplate. The front flange
of the baseplate has the word FRONT stamped into it.

Assembling the Monitor Bezel to the Rack Mount
1. Locate the four threaded spacers on the front edges of the rack mount kit. Hold the front bezel so that the
holes in the bezel match the threaded spacers. If the spacers and the holes in the bezel do not match
exactly, it may be necessary to loosen the six screws attaching the side supports to the rack and
reposition the side supports slightly until the spacers and holes match. Retighten the six side support
screws.
2. Attach the bezel with the four black No. 6-32 x 1/4 inch screws. Do not fully tighten the four screws.
3. Check the bezel alignment and then tighten the bezel screws. Do not overtighten.
4. Complete all cable and power cord connections to the monitor. This completes installation.
Maintenance
The Vicon monitor rack mount kits require no scheduled maintenance. The front bezel may be dusted with a soft
cloth as needed.
