HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
A short, detachable power-supply cord is provided to reduce the hazard resulting
from entanglement or tripping over a longer cord.
The magnetic cord is designed to break away from the deep fryer quickly and
smoothly to prevent the unit from tipping over and someone unintentionally
pulling on the cord. The magnetic plug is designed to fit into the deep fryer only
one way. When properly attached, the plug will set at an angle. If the magnet does
not attach firmly, rotate the magnetic plug attachment 180˚.
This detachable cord is designed for use with this deep fryer only. Do not try
using it on any other appliance.
An extension cord (or longer detachable cord) is not recommended for use with
deep fryers.
WARNING: Serious hot-oil burns may result from a deep-fat fryer being pulled
off a countertop. Do not allow the cord to hang over the edge of the counter
where it may be grabbed by children or become entangled with the user.
POLARIZED PLUG
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other). To reduce
the risk of electrical shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way.
If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.
ELECTRICAL POWER
If the electrical circuit is overloaded with other appliances, your appliance may
not operate properly. It should be operated on a separate electrical circuit from
other appliances.
• Never plug in the control panel before it is installed in the body of the fryer
with the heating element inside the oil container.
• Do not immerse the control panel and heating element in water.
• To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate another high wattage appliance on
the same circuit.
FEATURES OF YOUR DEEP FRYER

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed, including the following:
1. Read all instructions before using.
2. Do not use this appliance for other than intended household use.
3. Never use this unit to boil water. This unit is to be used for heating oil only.
4. To protect against risk of electrical shock, do not put electrical cord or
control unit of this appliance in water or other liquid.
5. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the
appliance malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Return
appliance to VillaWare for repair or replacement.
7. Always attach magnetic plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall
outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to “off ”, then remove plug from wall
outlet first, then from appliance. Always insert heating element in the appliance
first, then plug into the wall outlet. Wait for unit to cool completely before
removing the heating element.
8. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the manufacturer may
cause a risk of injury to persons.
9. Do not use outdoors or anywhere the cord or motor body might come into
contact with water while in use.
10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
11. Be sure fryer basket handle is properly assembled to the basket and locked in
place. See detailed assembly instructions.
12. Never overfill the fryer with oil. Fill only between the MIN and MAX levels,
as indicated inside the oil container.
13. Never plug in before the control panel is installed in the body of the fryer
and the heating element is immersed in the cooking oil.
14. Do not leave appliance unattended while in use.
15. Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
Hot oil can cause serious and painful burns.
16. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
17. Extreme caution must be used when moving fryer containing hot oil.
18. Always unplug from outlet (not from receptacle on appliance) when not in
use and before cleaning. Allow fryer to cool completely for 2 hours before
putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
19. Do not clean the appliance with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off
from the pad and touch electrical parts, creating a risk of electrical shock.

FRYING TIPS
1. Do not mix different oils or new and old oil together.
2. Always check to make sure there is sufficient oil in the container before
turning on the fryer. The oil level must be between the MIN and MAX line
of the oil container. For best results, fill close to the maximum level.
3. Remove excess moisture from the surface of foods by blotting with paper
towels before frying. Moist foods can cause the oil to foam and splatter, and
contributes to the deterioration of your cooking oil. Shake off any ice crystals
from frozen food before frying.
4. Cut food into same size and shape for more even cooking. Thicker pieces will
take longer to cook than thinly cut foods, and may not cook sufficiently in
the center.

5. Place fryer in an open area on a flat, level counter so plug will reach an
outlet, away from the counter’s edge.
6. Install the control panel with the heating element.
Install control panel by sliding onto the back of the fryer. Pick up control
panel and slide the “guides” onto the “guide rails” located on the back of the
fryer body. Slide control panel all the way to the bottom. The control panel is
equipped with an interlock safety switch. If the control panel is installed
incorrectly, the unit will not operate.
7. Make sure handle of the fryer basket is securely fixed prior to use.
To fix the handle, fold it back and press firmly to lock the handle wires.
Hang basket on holder until ready to fry. Do not leave basket immersed in
oil while preheating.
8. Fill fryer container with oil.
Add cooking oil to oil container, filling between the MIN and MAX levels
marked on the left side. For best results, keep oil close to the MAX level. Use
canola, vegetable or corn oil. Do not use olive oil, margarine, lard or drippings.
Do not put solid shortening in the oil container or the frying basket. If using
solid vegetable shortening, first melt the shortening in a separate pan. Very
carefully pour the melted shortening into the oil container. Previously used
solid vegetable shortening which has cooled and hardened in the oil container
needs to be removed and melted in a separate pan before reusing. When solid
shortening is melted in the oil container, there is a risk of warm melted fat
suddenly sputtering from below through the still solid top layer of fat.
Never mix different oils and fats together. Do not mix old and new oil.
(Note: This unit should never be used to boil water. It is to be used for
heating oil only.)
9. Plug in fryer
Never plug in the deep fryer until it has been filled with oil. Always attach
the magnetic cord to the fryer first then attach the cord to the wall outlet.
Attach the magnetic plug to the receptacle on the back of the control panel.
The magnetic plug will attach only one way, and should be positioned so that
the two small black protrusions at one end fit into the right side of the receptacle.
If the magnet does not attach firmly, rotate the magnetic plug attachment
180˚. When properly attached, the plug will be set at an angle; press down on
plug, if necessary, to position it at a downward angle. If the magnetic connector
becomes loose, check that it has been inserted correctly. While the appliance
is plugged in, leave sufficient space around the magnetic plug so it does not
become detached.
5. Be sure to fry at the correct oil temperatures. Follow temperature recommended
by your recipe or package directions. Too low a frying temperature can result
in higher oil absorption, pale color and a soggy exterior. Too high a frying
temperature can result in an over-browned exterior, or a nicely colored exterior
with an underdone or raw interior.
6. Do not drop food into the frying oil until the OIL READY light is ON and
the correct temperature is reached.
7. Avoid adding too much food at one time. A large volume of food will lower the
oil temperature and prevent foods from browning and crisping properly. Too
much food at once can also cause foods to stick together and brown unevenly.
8. Use only metal cooking utensils in the fryer. Plastic or rubber can become
damaged from the hot oil.
9. To extend the life of your frying oil, strain through a fine sieve or double layer
cheesecloth to remove loose crumbs and fried particles. Store used oil tightly
covered in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator for no more than 3 months.
10. Replace oil regularly. Always replace oil that becomes dark in color, begins to
foam or smoke when heated, looks syrupy, or smells rancid.
BEFORE USING YOUR DEEP FRYER
1. Remove all packaging.
2. Read all instructions carefully and keep them for future reference.
3. Clean your fryer thoroughly.
Wash all components, except the electrical parts, in warm, soapy water. To
remove control panel and attached heating element, lift the control panel
straight up, while holding the body of the fryer with the other hand. Pull
control panel out of the back slots. Lift up oil container to remove from fryer
body. Clean oil container and frying basket with hot, soapy water and non-
abrasive sponge. DO NOT IMMERSE THE CONTROL PANEL, CORD
OR PLUG IN WATER. The control panel, cord or heating element may be
cleaned using a damp cloth. Be careful that no water enters the control panel.
4. Dry all parts completely.
Be sure all parts are thoroughly dried before use. If any residual drops of
water remain on the parts that come into contact with the oil, dangerous
splattering may occur when the oil is heated. Special care should also be
taken to ensure the lid is completely dry, otherwise the filter will not function
properly and may lead to steam being trapped within the fryer during use.

FILTERING AND CHANGING THE FRYING OIL
• Make sure the deep fryer has been unplugged from the wall outlet and the oil
has completely cooled before cleaning the deep fryer.
• The oil used in deep-frying can be used more than once, but the quality of
the oil deteriorates with continued use. The life of the oil or fat will depend
on several factors: the temperature and length of time the oil is heated, the
number of times the oil is heated, the amount of water that comes into
contact with the oil from the foods fried, and the type of foods being fried.
• To empty oil from fryer, remove control panel and heating element; place
on paper-lined pan to drain. Lift out oil container; tilt to pour out. Use
absorbent paper to remove browned deposits at the bottom of the container.
CLEARING THE SAFETY RESET SWTICH
If your deep fryer stops heating, it may be because the safety reset switch has been
tripped. To reset the fryer, follow these steps:
1. Allow fryer to cool 15 minutes.
2. Unplug deep fryer and remove control panel.
3. Find the small hole on the back side of the control panel.
4. Using a small pin, gently push the pin into the hole to reset the fryer.
5. Return control panel to its previous position.
6. Your fryer is ready to use again.
INTERLOCK SWITCH
If your deep fryer will not turn on it may be because the Interlock Switch is
not engaged.
1. Remove plug from wall outlet
2. Disconnect plug from unit
3. Remove control unit from fryer
4. Align grooves on control unit with guides on back of the fryer
5. Push the control unit down until switch is engaged
6. Attach plug to unit
7. Plug cord into outlet
CLEANING AND MAINTAINING YOUR FRYER
It is recommended that you clean your fryer each time after you have finished
frying, and especially after frying breaded or floured food. Any breading that remains
in the oil after frying will burn and cause the oil to deteriorate more quickly.
1. Unplug deep fryer from the wall outlet, allow fryer to cool completely, and
pour out leftover oil.
2. Remove fryer basket; detach basket handle. Wash the basket and the handle
with hot, soapy water.
3. Remove control panel from the fryer housing. Never immerse control panel
in water to clean. Use a damp cloth to carefully wipe the control panel.
4. Carefully lift up oil container to remove it from the fryer housing. Pour out
oil by tilting container so oil is directed to one of the corners. Wash container
and lid with hot, soapy water. To maintain the polish of the outer surface, do
not use abrasive cleaners or sponge to wipe the housing. Note: The fryer basket,
basket handle, oil container and fryer lid are all dishwasher safe, however these
parts may become discolored in the dishwasher. The performance of these parts
will not be affected by the discoloration.
5. Once the parts are completely dry, reassemble fryer. The basket handle can be
removed or folded down for easier storage.
6. Store the cord in a clean, dry location away from metal objects. Always check
the magnetic plug before use to assure metal items have not become attached.
7. Do not attempt to disassemble the control panel. If there are any problems,
please contact an authorized service center for assistance.

SAFE OPERATION OF YOUR DEEP FRYER
Filling the Fryer Basket
1. To avoid the splatter of hot oil or possible burns, do not fill the frying basket
while it is immersed in the oil. Hang the basket on its holder to fill with
food. Battered foods would be an exception as the batter will stick to and
become damaged by the basket. When frying battered foods, you may choose
not to use the basket, or to lower the basket before adding the food. The
basket may be used to lift food from the oil when done.
2. Do not overfill frying basket. For optimum results and shorter frying time,
do not fill baskets more than the MAX level marked on the basket.
3. Be especially cautious when frying frozen foods, as ice crystals that may have
formed can cause the oil to bubble up and/or splatter. Shake off ice before
cooking, if possible.
Frying Food
1. Always use the frying basket to add food to the hot oil.
2. Lower the frying basket slowly to prevent the oil from overflowing and splashing.
3. Always cover the fryer with the lid during frying. To avoid risk of burns,
never place your hands above the filter on the lid or above the deep fryer
when frying. When removing lid to check or remove food, first lift slightly,
away from your face, to allow steam to escape before opening completely.
4. Be sure the oil level is always maintained between the MIN and MAX lines
marked on the oil container. Never add oil while cooking.
5. Avoid touching any metal surface while fryer is on as surfaces may be hot.
6. Avoid standing too close to the deep fryer while it is on.
Finishing the Frying
1. When frying is complete, always press the ON/OFF button.
2. Unplug fryer from wall outlet.
4. Always allow deep fryer to cool completely (approximately 2 hours) before
cleaning or storing.
5. Refrain from carrying or moving the fryer with hot oil inside, or with the
cord attached.
