a
wealth

entertainment,modern
carradios,withtheir
range
of
sophisticated
features,alsoprovide
a
greatdeal
ofin-
formation abouttrafficandroadconditions,
etc.
However,theradio,withallits
possibilities,shouldonlybeusedif
conditionsreallyallowit.
Forexample,changingcassettesorreading
cassettelabelswhiledrivinghavefre-
quentlyledtodangeroussituations.
Thevolume
of
theradioshouldalso
beset
sothatacoustic
signals
fromoutside
can
also
be
heard.

Fortechnicalreasons,
the
convenience
radiocoding
is
not
available
forall
vehicle
models.
Inthepastonehadtorecodetheradioman-
uallyeverytime
the
unit

removed

when

vehiclebattery

gaged.
That
hasallchangedwiththenewconveni-
enceradiocodingfunction:Oncethecode
number
has
beeninput
inthe
radio,
it
will
thensynchroniseitselfwith"its"vehicle!

list
of

quencies
and
tunes
the
radio
toit.
Thispro-
cess
is
almostentirelyinaudible!

the
bestpossiblerecep-
tion
in
atransmittingrangeevenunderunfa-
vourablereceptionconditions.
Operating
RDS
•
TheRDSis
switchedon/off
by
pressing
the
RDS
button.
"RDS
ON"
appears
inthe
displaywhen
the
unit
is
switched
on.
"RDS
OFF"
appearsbriefly
inthe
display
when
the
unit
is
switched
off.
WhenRDS
is
switchedoff,
the
radiowill
not
automaticallytransfer
to
alternativefre-
quencies.
If
the
radio
is
switched
onandtheRDSis
switched
off,
"RDSOFF"willappearbriefly
in
the
display.
•Whenselecting
a new
frequency
(e.g.
stationsearch,stationbuttons
etc.)RDSis
automaticallyswitched
on
again.
When
theRDSis
switched
on,
stations
which
arenot
transmittingusing
RDScan
still
be
received.
Itis
thereforerecom-
mended
to
leave
RDSonas
perma-
nently
as
possible.
Ifwhen
theRDSis
switched
ona
station
is
selectedwhich
is
transmittingusing
RDS,
thefrequencyinitiallyappears
inthe
display.
Once
the
radio
has
evaluated
the
informa-
tion,
the
frequencywill
be
replaced
bythe
name
ofthe
station.

"RDS
ON/OFF"
canbe
storedtogether
with
the
desiredstation
onthe
stationbut-
tons.

The
radio
first
triestocollectonlyalternative
frequencies
fortheselectedstation.
However,
ifthequalitybecomesobad
that
receptionbecomes
intermittent,
theradio
willalsoacceptfrequenciesofa "related"
NDR1
station.Assuchstationsbroadcast
differentprogrammesfromtimetotime,
such
a changeinfrequencycanalsoresult
ina differentprogrammebeingheard.
For
thisreasontheradiosaresetupinthe
factoryso
that
RDSsystemwillonlyselect
regionalstationswhichhaveidenticalpro-
grammecontent.
Ifthereisa change,however,the"Auto
REG"
settingintheset-upmenumustbe
activated(seepage10).
Generalnotes
onRDS
reception
•Dependingonthestrengthofthesignals
received,
itmaytaketheradiouptoseveral
minutestoevaluatetheRDSdata.
•Inunfavourablereceptionconditions
(e.g.
inmountainousareas),theradiowill
search
foralternativefrequencies
with
greatregularity.Thiscangiverisetobrief
muting.
•In
cases
ofextremelybadreception!
wheremutingand/ordistortionsarefre-
quent,theRDScanbetemporarily
switchedoff.
•
RDS
alwaysselectsthemostfavourable
frequencyfroma listofalternativefre-
quencies.
Ifnoneofthealternativespro-
vides
a clearsignal,youwill,ofcourse,also
hear
interferenceinRDSmode!
•ItisnotpossibletoevaluateRDSdata
whenthesignalreceivedistooweak.Inthis
case
thefrequencywillremaininthedis-
play.

Storing
RDS
stations
When
storing
RDS
stations,theappropriate
station
button
shouldnotbepressed
until
thestationnameappearsinthedisplay.This
ensures
that
allRDSinformationhasbeen
evaluatedand,whereappropriate,auto-
maticallystored.
Whenselectingstored
RDS
stations,
therespectivestationnameappears.Ifthe
storedfrequencyisnotavailable,theradio'
automaticallyselectsa suitablealternative
frequency(Beststationfunction).
if
none
ofthestoredalternativefre-
quencies
areavailable,thedesiredstation
cannotbereceived.A differentstation
should
beselected.

youhavetodoistunetothisstationat

Duringyourentiretrip,yourRDSradio
searches
foralternativefrequenciesforthe

stationand,whennecessary,
