ALARM UNIT
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
PACKAGE CONTENTS
The VOLTEK ‘Guardsman GS250ALARM SYSTEM’is a simple plug and play
unitthat allows for convenient monitoring of multiple zonesby wireless motion sen-
sors. The system is ideal for monitoring residential homes, small business and even
situations that require a “rapid and mobile deployment” system such as a boat, or
caravan
EveryGuardsman System has 3 zones that can bearmed independently from
each other. In addition, you can have up to 3 Motion Sensors per zone, for a total of 9
Motion Sensors. If motion is detected in a particular zone, such as the garden zone,
downstairszone, or pool area zone, the Receiver Base will sound an alarm and the LED
on the Receiver Base for that particular zone will blink red. If a sensor has a low battery
level it sends a message to the Receiver Base which then shows a LED flashing every
fewseconds for thezone with the low battery level and alsoprovides an intermittant
audibletone.
Theadvantage to havingupto 3 Motion Sensrs in one zone such as the gardenor
pool area, is that you can cover a much larger area using several sensors than you
could with just one.

GETTING STARTED
Each zone can independantly be turned ‘OFF’, set to ‘Alert Mode’ in which it
will give a chime tone, or set to sound a full and continuous tone in the ‘Alarm
Mode’. When set in ‘Alarm Mode’ the LED for the zone that detects motion
willflash red. This alarm then continues for 30 seconds unless the alarm reset
button is pressed. You can alternate between settings by pressing the button
undereach zone LED.

Attach theAC adaptor to theAC jack on the rear panel. Fully extend the
antennaand keep itvertical. Press the power buttonon the rearpanel. The
Receiver Base will first run a self-test as it flashes the zone LED’s on the front
panel.Once the flashingstops the Receiver Base is ready to beginreceiving
signals from the Motion Sensors.
NOTE: The Motion Sensors that come included with the kit are already set
to zones 1 and 2 and are marked accordingly. So you do not need to do anything
more except install the included batteries into the sensor and mount it in the
desired locations. If you want to reassign the sensors to a different zone or add
additionalsensors, follow theinstructions below.
NOTE:TheAlarmOutput provides a relayoutput which givesa momentary
closed signal when the receiver has a zone in the ‘Alarm mode’ and an intrusion
is detected.
ADDING A NEW MOTION SENSOR TO A ZONE
1. Press the ‘SENSOR DISCOVERY’ button found on the rear panel of the
ReceiverBase. The Power Lighton the frontpanel of the ReceiverBase will begin
flashing. This indicates the unit is waiting for a sensor to register itself.
2. Connect a battery to ONE motion sensor, and as you do so the small LED
on the sensor will flash. When this occurs the Power Light on the Receiver Base
will stop flashing. and all of the LED’s for the 3 zones will light up. (Note: only
power one motion Sensor at a time)
3. Choose which zone you would like to register the sensor to and then simply
push the button under that LED. The sensor is now registered to that zone.

MOTION SENSOR MOUNTING
The Guardsman Motion Sensors are constructed with UV resistantABS plastic
allowingforindoor or outdoor use.
NOTE: For optimum range, the Motion Sensors should not be used on metal doors,
metal door frames or metal objects.
1. Peel the paper strip from the double-sided tape located on the back of the sensor
Wall Mounting Bracket. You can also mount the sensor more securely using the screws
in the hardware kit. Using the drilling templateon the back of the instruction guide, drill
two small holes for the screws, ideally 2-3 metres high.
2. Screw the Wall Bracket into place.
3. Now that the Wall Bracket is securely in place, mount the Motion Sensor on the
Wall Bracket.
4. Position Motion Sensor so it faces area to be monitored.
HELPFUL HINTS
TheGuardsman Motion Sensors aresuitable for indoorand outdoor use. Please
bearin mind thefollowing points when choosing a mounting position:
•TheMotion Sensor should not be more than 7 metres from where motion will occur
•The lower the Motion Sensor the closer it may need to be monitored area.
•Ideal height for the Motion Sensor is 2-3 metres.
•The Motion Sensor should not be used on metal doors, metal door frames or metal
objects.Metal doors andframe could affect transmission range.
FAQ’s
HOW FARAWAY CAN THE SENSORS BE FROMTHE RECEIVER BASE?
Typically18 metres.
HOW FARAWAY CAN THE MOTION SENSOR BE FROMTHE MOVEMENT?
TheMotion Sensor shouldnotbe more than 6metres from where the motion is
expected to occur, however, the lower the Motion Sensor the closer it may need to
be to the monitored area. Ideal height is 2-3 metres.
CANI PLACE THE SENSOR INADIFFERENTROOMFROMTHERECEIVER?
Yes, the sensor uses radio frequencies to communicate with the Receiver Base.
Thesefrequencies can go through objects like walls ceilings, and floors.
CANIPLACETHE SENSORS OUTDOORS?
Yes, the sensors are designed to be indoor or outdoor units.
HOWLONGWILLTHE MOTION SENSORBATTERYLAST?
The battery is expected to last up to 12 months. This will depend on actual use and
howoften the sensoris triggered.
HOWMANY SENSORS CAN IREGISTER WITH THERECEIVER BASE?
Thereceiver base can support up to 9 Sensors(3 per zone).
WHATHAPPENS IF THE RECEIVER BASE LOSES POWER?
Becausethere is a rechargeable battery in the Receiver Base, even if it loses power,
the system will still work for up to 6 hours.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
SYMPTON REMEDIES
TheReceiverBase 1. Check to make sure the Motion Sensor is properly
doesnot soundwhen registered with the Receiver Base.
theMotionSensor 2. Check that the volume control on the back of the
detectsmovement. Receiver Base is adjusted properly.
3. Check that the Receiver Base has power and is on.
4. Place the Motion Sensor in another location closer
tothe Receiver Base.
TheLED intheMotion 1. Be sure the battery is properly inserted with the
Sensor does not light up correct polarity.
2. Be sure you are using fresh alkaline batteries.
FlashinggreenLED 1. Indication on the Receiver Base to indicate low
everyfewsecondsand battery level on the sensors in the zone of which
an intermittanttone. the LED is flashing.
Once a Motion Sensor is registered with a particular zone, even if the sensor loses
powerfor a prolongedperiod of time, the Receiver Base will still recognize the sensor
whenpoweris restored.
NOTE: It is important to power only one new Motion Sensor at a time since as soon
as you power it up the Receiver Base, if in discovery mode, will recognize the sensor.
To facilitate set up, you should power up one sensor, assign it to a group, and then
repeatthe process for the other sensors.
