2 - Using the GPS850
Charging the GPS850
Your new GPS850 will need to be charged for at least 4 hours prior to first use. This will
condition the battery and prolong battery life.
To charge the battery:
-Switch the battery switch on the bottom of the unit to the on position.
-Connect the charger cable to the charger connector in the left side of the unit.
NOTE: To ensure a constant charge, for the first charge you should use the 240V AC home
charger.
Turning the GPS850 on
Use the power switch on the left top of the unit to turn your GPS850 on and off. If the device
does not turn on, ensure that the battery switch on the bottom is turned on and that the charger
is connected.
Calibrating the touch screen
When you first turn on the GPS850, or whenever you switch off the battery switch on the bottom
of the device, you will see the following touch screen calibration display.
To calibrate the touch screen, carefully press on the centre of the black cross with your finger or
blunt pencil. The cross will move from the centre of the screen to the top left corner. Keep
pressing on the cross as it moves around the screen until calibration screen closes. If you find
that the process is repeating over and over, try using a stylus or blunt pencil to tap the cross
rather than a finger. It is not recommended to use a pen on the touch screen as this may mark
the surface and be difficult to erase.
WARNING: Never use a sharp object on the touch screen as you may cause irreparable damage.

7 Dash Mounting Plate For use when windscreen mounting is not an option.
Adhesive sticks the plate to the dashboard then suction
cup can be mounted to the plate.
1. To assemble your car holder kit first attach the cradle to the suction-mount bracket. To
complete this start by orientating the bracket such that the lever at the base is facing
downwards. Place the cradle onto the bracket ensuring that the two tabs on the bracket
align with the holes in the cradle. Slide the cradle downwards until it is securely in place.
2. Place the car holder kit in a suitable location on your windscreen ensuring that the lever
at the base of the bracket is switched such that it is away from the glass. The area of the

4. Before attaching the GPS850 device into the cradle, ensure that the battery switch is
turned on. Position the bottom of the GPS850 first by aligning the tabs on the cradle with
the holes in the device, then tilt the top of the GPS850 back into position (B). Pull gently
on the top clip of the cradle until it clicks into place. With the device in place, adjust the
bracket to adjust the position of the GPS850 so that you can see the screen comfortably.
Loosen the screws on the bracket to make any adjustments and tighten them securely
once finished.
5. Connect the supplied car charger cable to the Charger connector on the left side of the
GPS850 and plug the other end of the cable into the cigarette lighter socket in the car.
Use the power button on the top of the GPS850 to turn the device on.
The first time you turn on your navigation device it may take up to 10 or 15 minutes to acquire
reliable GPS signal. Obstacles such as car ports, bridges, tunnels, and buildings will affect the
navigation device’s ability to obtain an accurate signal. Do not be alarmed if the map displays
your current location in another city when you first turn the unit on, your position will be
automatically updated once reliable GPS signal is acquired. It is best to move your vehicle to a
clear and open area free from obstacles that may hinder the GPS performance, and then remain
stationary until the GPS has acquired your current position. If the vehicle is moving whilst the
GPS is trying to acquire a signal, the acquisition time may be significantly increased.
Your Voxtrack GPS850 is now ready for use! Please read the instructions regarding navigation
software to learn more about using your GPS.
CAUTION: Do not leave the device mounted in your car when parked. Exposure to extreme heat
may cause damage. Simply disconnect the charger and remove the device from the cradle. You
may choose to leave the mounting system in place on the windscreen for easy installation when
you return to your vehicle. Removing the device from view will also reduce the risk of theft.

The red GPS receiver means that the navigation device has not yet
located a reliable GPS signal.
The green GPS receiver means that the navigation device has
located a reliable GPS signal and that you are ready to navigate.
These icons display your power source, external charger or
battery . The battery appears as green, yellow, or red depending on
whether the battery is recharged or weak.
The GPS bar is a toggle button that displays the remaining travel distance and
travel time, estimated time of arrival, and speed and altitude, and street name
and address number.
When you have calculated a route, the Directions bar displays information about
your next turn. Click this bar for a complete list of turn-by-turn directions.

13
Navigating to an Address
From the Destinations menu tap the Address
button.
Use the keyboard to enter in the suburb of the
desired destination. The list will automatically
update as you begin entering letters. To delete a
letter entered by mistake, use the Backspace
key. Once you see the desired suburb in
the list, select it by tapping on the name, or if it
is already selected, tap to continue.
Note: For destinations in major city centres be
sure to enter the Suburb as the CBD. For
example Melbourne CBD covers the centre of
town whereas Melbourne covers the greater
area. If there are duplicate street names in the
greater area, using Melbourne as the suburb
reference, may lead you out of town.
Use the keyboard again to enter the street name
of the desired destination. Select the street once
it appears in the list by tapping on it or tap
if it is already highlighted.
If your desired street name is not found it may in
fact be in a neighbouring suburb. Press the
Mode button and select the Street-City option
to enter the street name first, and then select
which suburb is the correct one for your
destination.
Note: To navigate to the centre of the selected
suburb without entering a street, simply tap
before entering any letters of the
street name. (The next step will be skipped).
Use the number pad to enter the house number
of the destination address. Once the number is
entered, press to continue.
Note: The map data does not necessarily contain
all house numbers. If your desired house
number is not found, either select one close to it
from the list, or delete any entered numbers
using the backspace key , press the up
arrow on the scroll bar , and tap to
navigate to the mid point of the street.

Voxtrack GPS850 Quick Start Guide
14
The final screen of destination entry is the Show
Map screen. Here you may view the location of
your entered destination. You may use the
Quick and Short buttons to select your desired
route. The Quick option will calculate a route to
your destination based on the shortest traveling
time. It will tend to keep you traveling along
more major and higher speed roads. The Short
option will calculate the route which travels the
shortest distance to the destination. The
shortest distance will not necessarily prove the
quickest as there often is a lot more turns and
traveling along minor roads. Your last used
preference will be selected by default.
Once you have confirmed that the destination is
correct and have selected the preferred routing
method, tap the Go button to perform the route
calculation. If there is an error in your entered
destination, you may use the Back key to revise.
Whilst the route is being calculated a message
will be displayed on screen. The calculation time
will vary depending on route length and
complexity (number of turns etc). Do not be
alarmed if the Calculating route message is
displayed for upwards of 30 seconds for long or
complex routes.
As you drive, Destinator provides you with turn-by-turn voice and visual directions, letting you
know when your next turn is coming up until you arrive at your destination. The directions bar at
the top of the screen will show the name of the next street to turn into as well as the distance to,
and direction of, the next turn.
NOTE: Although your Voxtrack GPS850 is supplied with the latest available map data, not all
streets and intersections are necessarily 100% up to date. Your Voxtrack GPS850 may not
recognise a no-entry way or a no left/right turn. Be sure to exercise common sense and obey all
road rules. If you happen to miss a turn, the GPS850 will automatically recalculate a revised
route to your destination so there is no need to panic.
Please refer to the Navigation Software User’s Manual for detailed information on using the
navigation software.
