readandunderstoodthoroughlybyallparesresponsibleforinstallaonandconnueduse/maintenance.

orservicingthevalve.

TheSeries9000Bueryvalveisruggedandwillbepackagedtoprovideproteconduringmostshipping
incidents,howevercareshouldbetakentoinspectthevalveonreceiptforanypossibleshippingdamage.
Inspeconshouldbeperformedassoonaspraccal.FailuretopromptlynofyVSIofanyshippingdamage
mayinvalidateanyclaimforshippingdamage.MostshipmentsfromVSIwillbemadeFOBOrigin,unlessnoted
onthesalesdocuments,thepurchaserwillownthefreightwhileintransit,assumesallriskwhileintransit,
andwillberesponsibleforreporngshippingdamagepromptlytothecarrier.

SECTION 1 - FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
TheSERIES9000BueryValveisahighperformanceosetbueryvalveforindustrialandcommercial
applicaons.Thevalvesareavailableinluggedendconnecons,andavarietyofoponsindisc,shaandseat
materials.
Pressurerangsareshownonthevalvetag.Thevalvediscrotates1/4turnandprovidesbubbleghtshuto
inwaterpipelines.Thevalvescanbeusedtoregulateowratesbyposioningthediscbetween10and90
degreesopen.
SECTION 2 - INSTALLATION
WARNING!
Valvesareasignicantcomponentofanypipingsystem.Failureduetofaultyinstallaon,
improperoperaonormaintenanceinsuchsystemscouldresultindamage,downme,
andcostlyrepairs.Manyproblemscanbetracedtoimproperinstallaon,operaonor
maintenanceprocedures.
Sec 2.1 Unloading
Inspectvalvesuponreceiptforanydamagethatmayhaveoccurredduringshipping,aswellasconformance
withquanty,conguraonanddescriponfromtheshippingorder.Whenremovingvalvesfromtheshipping
containers,becarefulnottolithevalvesusingslingsorchainaroundtheoperangsha,actuator,orthru
thewaterway.Instead,lithevalveswitheyeboltsorrodsthrutheangeholes.
Sec 2.2 Storage
Thevalvesshouldbestoredonapalletor“skid”inaclean,drywarehouse.Ifthevalvesmustbestored
outside,thefollowingshouldapply:
1. Valvesmustbekeptothegroundhighenoughtoavoidstandingwater.
2. Coverthevalveswithawaterrepellentcover(notincludedwiththevalve),topreventdirtandwaterfrom
compromisingthevalvebodyorseat.
Sec 2.3 Guidelines
1. SERIES9000BueryValvesaredesignedforinstallaonbetweenANSIClass125/150atorraisedface
anges.Appropriategasketsasspeciedbythesystemengineerarerequired.
2. SERIES9000BueryValveshavebeendesignedsothatthedisc,intheopenposion,willcleartheinside
diameterofschedule40and80steelpipe.
WARNING!
Wheninstallingthevalveadjacenttolinedpipe,as-castngs,orschedule80plascpipe.
Insomeinstancesthediscintheopenposionwillinterferewiththeadjacentcomponent
andcouldcausedamagetothedisc.
3. SERIES9000BueryValvesareabidireconalseatdesign.Valveswillpreformattheiropmumwhen
installedwiththeowindicatoronthebodyofthevalvepoinngwiththecorrectdireconoftheow.
4. Forthebestresultsinslurryservice,posionthevalveassemblysothatthevalvestemisinthehorizontal

posion,andthelowerdiscedgeopensdownstream.Thiswillcreateaself-ushingeect,thereby
extendingtheservicelifeofthevalve.
5. SERIES9000BueryValvesshouldbeinstalledaminimumofsix(6)pipediametersupstreamandfour(4)
pipediametersdownstreamfromotherlinecomponents(valves,elbows,etc.).Thisisnotalwayspraccal,
butitisimportanttodesigninasmuchdistanceaspossible.
Sec 2.4 Pre-installation
1. Removeanyprotecveangecoversfromthevalveandthepipeanges.
2. Removeallmaterialsuchasweldsplaer,oil,grease,anddirtfromthevalve,anges,andpipeline.
3. Checkthevalveidencaontagtomakesureitistheappropriatevalveforthelocaonandservicethatit
isbeinginstalledfor.
4. SeeTable1tomakesureyouhavetheappropriatesize,threadingandlengthofboltsforthevalve.
Sec 2.5 Installation
1. SERIES9000BueryValvesshouldbeinstalledinthe“AlmostClosed”orclosedposiontoavoid
damagingthediscduringinstallaon.
2. Spreadtheangestoexceedthevalvesfacetofacedimension.
3. Carefullyplacethevalveintoplacebetweentheanges.Takecarethattheangeseangsurfaceandthe
valveseatsarenotscratched.
4. Insertappropriategasketsandensuretheyareposionedproperly
5. Lineup,centerandsecurethevalvebetweentheangesusingthedesiredboltsorstuds.Donotghten
boltsatthisme.
6. Carefullyopenthevalvetoassurefreeandunobstructeddiscmovement.
7. Whilegraduallyremovingtheangespreaders,centerthevalvebodytotheangesandghtenthebolts
handght.Slowlyclosethevalvetocheckforadequatediscclearance.
8. Returnthevalvetothe“AlmostClosed”posion.
9. Usinganalternangcross-overpaernshowninFigure1,ghtentheboltstotheminimumtorquevalues
listedinTable1.Tightenbothsidesofthevalveevenlywhilesllusingthesamecross-overpaern.
10.Ifanactuatorisbeingused,connectanypneumacorelectricalconneconsasrequiredbytheactuator
documentaon.
11.Cycletheactuatorfully,totheopenandthentotheclosedposion,checkingtheactuatortravelstop
sengsforproperdiscalignment.Thevalveshouldbeoperatedtoassurethatnobindingistakingplace.
12.Pressurizethepipingtothevalveandinspectforleakage.Ifleakageoccurs,ghtentheboltsusingthe
cross-overpaern,increasingthetorque,lltheleakagestops.Donotexceedmaximumtorqueslistedin
Table1.
13.Thevalveisnowreadyforservice.

SECTION 3 - OPERATION
TheSeries9000closesbyrotangtheshaclockwisewhichturnsthediscclockwisellitisperpendicularto
thepipecenterlineblockingow.Theshaissquareandfeaturesalinecutintothetopoftheshaindicang
theplaneofthedisc.Thetraveloftheshaanddiscisquarterturn(90degrees).
Thevalveistypicallyoperatedbylever,gearbox,orapoweredactuator.Foraleverthetravelisdirectly
coupledtothedisctravel.Foragearbox,closureisachievedbymanuallyturningtheinputofthegearbox
mulpleturnsunlthevalveisinthedesiredposion.Forapoweredactuatoreitheruidorelectricsignals
drivethevalvetothedesiredposion;pleaserefertothepoweredactuator’smanualfordetails.

Inallinstances,thevalve’soperatorwillbeequippedwithendoftravellimitstoprotectthevalvefrombeing
openedorclosedpastitsnaturallimits.Indexingandadjustmentoftheoperator’slimitsiscrical,pleaserefer
totheactuator’smanualfordetailsonadjustment.
SECTION 4 - MAINTENANCE
Rounemaintenanceorlubricaonisgenerallynotrequired.
Sec 4.1 Packing
Visuallyinspectthepackingareaforleaksyearlyandghtenpackingglandboltsifleakageisobserved.If
leakingpackingcannotbecorrectedbyghteningglandboltsreplacementofpackingisnecessary.
1. Removelinefromserviceandisolatevalveasnecessary
2. Removeactuatorfollowingappropriateactuatormanual.
3. Loosenandremoveglandbolts/nuts(16,17,&21).Inspectfordamageandreplaceifnecessary.
4. Removetheglandange(15)andgland(14).Inspectfordamageandreplaceifnecessary.
5. Usingapackingremovaltoolorpickremovethepackingrings(10)takingcarenottoscratchordamagethe
packinghousingofthevalvebodyorthevalvesha.
6. Carefullycleanthepackinghousingwithcompressedairandbrassbrushes
7. Insertthenewpackingset,onlyusingcompablegreaseifnecessary.
8. Reinstallthegland(14),glandange(15),andglandbolts/nuts(16,17,&21).
9. Tightenglandbolts/nuts(16,17,&21)snug.
10.Returnvalvetoserviceandinspectpackingforleakage.Ifleakageisobservedghteneachpackingbolt/
nut1/2turnatameunlleakageceases.
Sec 4.2 End Cap Seal
1. Removelinefromserviceandisolatevalveasnecessary
2. Removetheendcapbolts(20)andendcap(2).
3. Usingapackingremovaltoolorpickremovetheendcapseal(11).
4. Installnewendcapseal(11),reinstallendcap(2)andbolts(20).
Sec 4.3 Seat Replacement
1. Removelinefromserviceandisolatevalveasnecessary
2. Removeboltsholdingvalveinlineandremovevalve
3. Oncevalveisremovedfromthelineopenthevalveapproximately10-15degrees
4. Removethecapscrews(19)thatholdtheseatretainerring(9)
