1Introduction
The Dual T4240 Storage server product will be built with Dual T4240 which is a communication
processor from Freescale. The T4240 QorIQ multicore processor combines 12 dual-threaded e6500
Power Architecture® processor cores for a total of 24 threads with high-performance datapath
acceleration logic and network and peripheral bus interfaces required for networking, telecom/datacom,
data center, storage applications, and wireless infrastructure applications. A Dual T4240 based Data
center Storage appliance, offering a powerful unified communication solution with up to 80G of external
network connectivity, SRIO inter-chip connectivity and multiple SAS HDD’s and PCIe based SSD’s. The
storage appliance is designed to provide features that include data compression, de-duplication and

3Board Management Controller (BMC)
Preparing Board:3.1
1. Attach an RS-232 cable between T4240 UART port and host computer.
2. Open a serial console tool on the host computer to communicate with MFCS.
3. Push the reset button for BMC and show the u-boot console messages.
Features3.2
Booting device is SPI Flash (32M)
Primary flash and secondary flash (connected to spi.size 32M) .
ROM try with primary flashing if nothing finds in primary then after 1 min
watchdog reset and switches to secondary flash.
Upgrading image on BMC3.3
To get the images from server it is necessary to configure the server. This configuration involves
Create the tftp server.
Network configuration
3.3.1 Create tftp server
Install the tftp server by using the following command
# sudo apt-get install xinetd tftpd tftp
Create /etc/xinetd.d/tftp and write the following tftp configurations.
# default: off
# description: The tftp server serves files using the Trivial File
Transfer \
# Protocol. The tftp protocol is often used to boot diskless \
# workstations, download configuration files to network-aware printers, \
# and to start the installation process for some operating systems.
service tftp
{
protocol = udp
port = 69
socket_type = dgram
wait = yes
user = nobody
server = /usr/sbin/in.tftpd
server_args = /tftpboot
disable = no
}

Create a folder /tftpboot
# sudo mkdir /tftpboot
# sudo chmod -R 777 /tftpboot
# sudo chown -R nobody /tftpboot
Restart the xinetd service
# sudo /etc/init.d/xinetd restart
3.3.2 Network Configuration
In network configuration user has to set the ip of the host and the ip should be static.
# sudo ifconfig eth0 down
# sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.81 up
Steps to flash the image on BMC3.4
Boot the BMC and let the kernel up.
Set the ip of the BMC by using ifconfig. For e.g.
# ifconfig eth0 down
# ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.45 up
Check whether the host is connected or not using ping command. To use tftp, host (e.g.
laptop) and BMC should be in same domain. (NOTE: Both server and BMC in
192.168.0.x domain)
# ping 192.168.0.81
If connection is done goto tmp directory. This can be done by
# cd /tmp
Get the image from host by executing tftp command
# tftp -gr <image name> <host_ip>
The image should present in /tftpboot directory in host system.
Flash the image to onboard flash memory with the help of following command
# flashcp -v <image_name> /dev/mtd0
