Installing the E1437A
T is c apter contains instruction for installing t e E1437A VXI ADC Module
and its drivers. T is c apter also includes instruction for transporting and
storing t e module.
To inspect the E1437A
T e E1437A single c annel VXI ADC Module was carefully inspected bot
mec anically and electrically before s ipment. It s ould be free of marks or
scratc es and it s ould meet its publis ed specifications upon receipt.
If t e module was damaged in transit, do t e following:
l
Save all packing materials.
l
File a claim wit t e carrier
l
Call your Hewlett-Packard sales and service office.

To install the E1437A
Caution To protect circuits from static disc arge, observe anit-static tec niques
w enever andling t e E1437A VXI ADC Module
1Set up your VXI ainfra e. See the installation guide for your ainfra e.
2Select a slot in the VXI ainfra e for the E1437A odule
T e E1437A module’s local bus receives ECL-level data from t e module
immediately to its left and outputs ECL-level data to t e module
immediately to its rig t. Every module using t e local bus is keyed to
prevent two modules from fitting next to eac ot er unless t ey are
compatible. If you will be using t e local bus, select adjacent slots
immediately to t e left of t e data-receiving module. If t e VXI bus is
used, maximum data rates will be reduced but t e module can be placed
in any available slot.
3Using a s all screwdriver or si ilar tool, set the logical address configuration
switch on the E1437A.
(See t e illustration on t e next page.) Eac module in t e system must
ave a unique logical address. T e factory default setting is 1100 0000
(192). If an GPIB command module will be controlling t e E1437A module,
select an address t at is a multiple of 8.

4Set the mainframe’s power switch to off (0).
Caution Installing or removing t e module wit power on may damage components in
t e module.
5Place the odule’s card edges (top and botto ) into the odule guides in the
slot.
6Slide the odule into the ainfra e until the odule connects fir ly with the
backplane connectors. Make sure the odule slides in straight.
7Attach the odule’s front panel to the ainfra e chassis using the odule’s
captive ounting screws.

To store the odule
Store t e module in a clean, dry, and static free environment
For ot er requirements, see storage and transport restriction in ‘’Tec nical
Specifications’’.
To transport the odule
l
Package the odule using the orignal factory packaging or packaging identical
to the factory packaging.
l
If returning the odule to Hewlett-Packard for service, attach a tag describing
the following:
l
Type of service required
l
Return address
l
Model number
l
Full serial number
In any correspondence, refer to t e module by model number and full serial
number.
l
Mark the container FRAGILE to ensure careful handling.
l
If necessary to package the module in a container other than original
packaging, observe the following (use of other packaging is not
recommended):
l
Wrap t e module in eavy paper of anti-static plastic.
l
Protect t e front panel wit cardboard.
l
Use a double-wall carton made of at least 350-pound test material.
l
Cus ion t e module to prevent damage.
Caution Do not use styrene pellets in any s ape as packing material for t e module. T e
pellets do not adequately cus ion t e module and do not prevent t e module
from s ifting in t e carton. In addition, t e pellets create static electricity w ic
can damage electronic components.
