1. Introduction
TheWallboxbasicEVOPROisusedtochargeplug-in
hybridorelectricvehicles.SeveralbasicEVOPRO
Wallboxunitscanbeoperatedinanintegrated
network.Thisenablesthepowerdistributiontobe
monitoredforupto16Wallboxes.Intheinterestof
simplicity,the‘WallboxbasicEVOPRO’willbeshort-
enedto‘Wallbox’below.Theintegratednetworkcan
beimplementedintheformoflocalorexternalload
management.

2. Installation of the bus system
Installationofthebussystemisdescribedbelow.
Thewiringisimplementedaslinewiring(see2.2)
orascentralwiring(see2.3).
2.1 General requirements

Thefollowingrequirementsmustbemetforany
typeofwiring:
• Alwaysuseascreenedbusline(e.g.CAT6a)for
thecabling.
• Donotexceedthetotalpermissibleeldbus
lengthof500m.
• PreparethebuscableandtheWallboxforinstal-
lation(Figs. VI and VII).
• Ensurethatthereissufcientdistancebetween
theconductors,thepowersupply(2),the
chargingcable(3)andthebuslines(5).
• Securelyconnectthebuslinestothedesignated
screenconnections.
• Cutoffunusedindividualconductorsattheend
oftheinsulation.
2.2 Bus system in line wiring
Withlinewiring(Figs. VIII, IX and X),thebus
lineisrouteddirectlyfromaWallboxorexternal

• Energysupplyatleast6AperWallbox(incaseof
overloading,ongoingchargingprocesseswillbe
completedrst).

• FirstWallbox:L1,L2,L3.
• SecondWallbox:L2,L3,L1.

3.2 Bus topology
Prerequisites:
• Bussystem:RS485eldbus
• Protocol:ModbusRTU
• Theleaderdistributesthetotalcurrentinthe
system.
• Achargingcurrent(default:6A)isconguredfor
eachWallbox.Settherequiredchargingcurrent.
• ThefollowerWallboxesreverttostandbystate
whennotinuse.
• CommunicationbetweenthefollowerWallbox
andleaderWallboxisrequiredinordertostart
thechargingprocess.
Local load management:
• OneWallboxastheleaderandatleastoneor
upto15Wallboxesasfollowers.
• ThephysicalpositionoftheWallbox(leader)
isfreelyselectable.
External load management:
• Externalcontrolsystem(e.g.HEMS)whichis
conguredastheleaderandatleastoneor
upto16Wallboxesasfollowers.

4. CongurationoftheWallboxes
TheindividualWallboxesmustbepre-congured
usingrotaryswitchesandmicroswitchestooperate
theintegratednetworkofWallboxes(Fig. XIV).All
rotaryswitchesandmicroswitchesareinitiallyset
toOFF.Thecongurationdiffersinsomecases,
dependingonthelocalorexternalloadmanage-
mentmode.

haveelapsedsincePowerOn.Ifthecorresponding
Wallboxisinstandbymode,itcannotbeaddressed
viaModbus.

systemusingatwo-wireRS485bus(half-duplex).

6. Checking load management

ensurethatnovehicleisconnectedtoanyWallbox.
• EstablishthepowersupplyfortheWallboxesin
localloadmanagementmode,beginningwith
theleaderWallbox.
• Establishthepowersupplyforalldevicesin
externalloadmanagementmode,beginning
withtheexternalcontrolelectronics.
• ThefrontilluminationofeachWallboxlightsup
for5minutesandthengoesout.
• Loadmanagementisnowreadyforoperation.
Diagnosisofcommunicationerrorsintheload
managementsystemviathefrontillumination.
Thefrontilluminationashesintheeventofafault.
Sixbriefwhiteashes.Pause,threelongblueashes.
Pause.
Thisashingsequenceindicatesacommunication
errorbetweentheleaderWallboxortheexternal
controlsystemandthecorrespondingfollower
Wallbox.Checkwhetherthebusinstallationwas
performedcorrectly.Oncethefaulthasbeen
