3 Description of Function
3.1 Purpose of the Device
The 979429.02 Temperature Controller is a high-precision tool for either simple ON/OFF two-position
control and three-position control (difference temperature between two temperature values) or
optionally with performance approximation via P.I.D. operating mode.
With freely programmable hysteresis in ON/OFF mode.
The model type 979429.02 was designed for heating and cooling operation in a control range between
-199 … 2.300°C. The measuring range is determined by the employed sensor type.
Simple operation and parameterization as well as useful additional functions such as recognition of sensor
damage with automatic power cut-off, alarm output, 3 completely free configurable switching outlets etc. offer
the necessary flexibility for industrial use. Due to the freely programmable hysteresis overlaps with rising or
falling edges, additional possibilities for use as temperature limiter or as unilateral edge-controlled switching
conditions arise for two-position or three-position operation.

4.3 Interfaces
General Information:
Model 979429.02 is intended for resistance sensors Pt100; furthermore for thermo elements of type T, R, J,
B, S, K, E and Wre-Wre25. For use with platinum sensors (PT100) the degree display is within 1/10 degree
of accuracy. For use with thermo elements the measuring display has an accuracy of the measuring
temperatures in the four-digit range (max. 2300 degrees).
The 979429.02 possesses a reduction switch necessary for the connection of PT100 sensors in three wire
connection for compensating the cable resistance. Cable lengths of up to 50 meters measuring lead can be
realized without intermediate transmitter (min. 3x0.22mm²).
Inlets:
Control Voltage:
The supply voltage for the controller is 230V AC 50Hz (see also connection diagram).
4.4 Wiring Diagram
Warning
Working with electricity can be very dangerous! Imitating the illustrated examples can
cause accidents and must be performed by qualified experts only!
Check whether the voltage information on the control corresponds with these
instructions!
(No warranty with wrong connection!)
Hysteresis:
Temperature value or time value necessary only in the ON/OFF operating mode, which
passes by between the automatic switch-off when the set value is reached and the
automatic restart. This value can basically be indicated in degrees C or as time value. The
hysteresis is necessary in order to avoid the so-called “flickering” of the relay, when the
temperature value reaches the set value.

After selecting confirm your menu settings by pushing SET
You will then automatically return to the menu selection or to the control mode.
Note: in cooling operations (menu “rd”=1), AH1(2) is the turn-on value and AL1(2) is the turn-off value after turning on!
IMPORTANT
The color coding of the sensors is not standardized. Polarity with clamps 6, 7, 8 causes a
fault message or an unrealistic display value. This will not damage the controller. If the
sensors are exchanged, the correctly installed sensor can be calibrated during operation at
a random reference temperature (see page 5, menu PSb).
Make sure the sensor is suitable for the temperature range to be measured. PT 100
sensors with lower or higher measuring ranges can be connected to the device.
Push the "SET" button followed by code entry 0001 in order to gain access to these
parameters.
Use the below table for the setting of temperature values after you have entered the basic
settings according to the parameter table „Basic Settings“, page 13 correctly.

6.3 Function "Automatic Self-Adjustment" (Autotuning)
The control unit 979429.02 has a program that automatically finds the optimal P.I.D. settings of the
connected load. For this purpose it is necessary that the control unit is ready-to-operate, the load is clamped
on, and an uncritical set value for temperature is already set.
CAUTION
When the auto-tuning function is used, the control unit runs through one or several
control cycles in order to determine the parameters. In doing so, strong deviations from
the set value may appear. Take this into consideration when setting the set value.
Process
Result
Simultaneously press the buttons and
hold for approx.4 seconds.
The red LED (AT) flashes. The process is finished
when AT stops blinking.
In order to turn off auto-tuning earlier, press the arrow button for approx. 4 seconds until AT stops
blinking. The previous settings remain unchanged.
Access to these parameters is obtained by pressing "SET" and then entering the code
0036.
Use the table below for the settings or corrections of the P.I.D. temperature values, after
you have selected the setting 1 or 2 according to the parameter table “Basic Settings” as
operating mode under OUTY. We recommend defining a basic setting beforehand by
using the auto-tuning function.
