SAFETY SUMMARY
Safety Notices, Warnings, and Cautions must be applied during operation and maintenance of the equipment. If
situations arise that are not covered in the General Safety Notices, Warnings, or Cautions the local authority will issue
instructions as deemed necessary to resolve the situation.
•Please read all instructions before attempting to install any equipment. Failure to follow directions can cause
bodily injury and damage to the equipment.
•Equipment must be clear of all power lines, wires, and electrical obstructions at all times.
•Ensure that precautionary measures are employed to prevent applying power to equipment at any time
maintenance work is in progress.
•Do not touch electronic components.
•Do not make any unauthorized alterations to equipment or components. Changes or modifications not
expressly authorized by Copper Notification can result in damage to the equipment and will void the
warranty.
•When working near electricity do not use metal rules, flashlights, metallic pencils, or any other object
having exposed conducting material.
•Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used when changing a battery. this equipment
includes acid resistive gloves, and safety glasses, as well as proper body acid-resistance coverings and safety
shoes.
•Comply with all electrical codes per the local authority having jurisdiction.
•When possible, avoid installing equipment during severe or wet conditions. Handling equipment with wet
hands may cause slippage resulting in bodily injury and/or damage to equipment

WARNINGS
All Warnings used in this manual must be adhered to. General warnings are listed below, however, these warnings
and other installation and equipment specific warnings may appear throughout the manual, as well.
•Do not wear jewelry while installing the HPSAs, HPSA batteries, or the HPSA horn arrays. It may get
caught on equipment resulting in physical injury.
•Before installing or servicing HPSA equipment, ensure the power button on the PDB is powered OFF and
the Branch circuit is disconnected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury, shock or
possible equipment damage. The Red Power Button is NOT an indicator and DOES NOT illuminate when
power is applied.
•Do not attempt to install or reinstall the HPSA batteries without referring to Chapter 5, Connecting Cables to
Electronics Components and Chapter 6, Installing the Batteries for instructions. Failure to follow instruction
may result in bodily injury and/or damage to the unit.
•Use extreme caution when installing, clamping, and wiring the batteries. Shorting one or more batteries or
battery leads against the clamp bar, electronics cabinet or other wiring could result in severe bodily harm,
fire, and/or explosion.
•To avoid the risk of physical harm or battery short circuit when disconnecting a battery, remove the terminal
from the negative post before removing the terminal from the positive post.
•To avoid the risk of physical harm or battery short circuit when connecting batteries, connect the terminal to
the RED positive post before the black negative post.
•To avoid hearing damage wear ear protection when issuing alarms/tones locally.
•Perform all maintenance as directed. Failure to follow directions may result bodily injury and/or damage to
the unit.
•Do not smoke or use an open flame when working on the battery. An accidental spark could result in battery
explosion.
•It is the responsibility of the Installer to obtain structural, mechanical and civil engineering approval for all
installations and to ensure the site and equipment installation complies to local/national codes and standards
and meets all requirements set by the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
C
Circuit boards are electrostatic sensitive. All Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) sensitive components contain solid
state circuits that may become damaged when contacted with an electrostatic charge. Extreme care must be taken
to protect the circuitry.
Wear a static dissipating grounding wrist strap or similar protective device grounded at the nearest available bare
metal chassis or other ground point BEFORE touching the circuit board.
Always hold a printed circuit board by its edges or facing plate if available. Avoid touching the edge connectors.
Never slide components over any surface.
Failure to follow correct grounding procedures may cause severe damage to the circuitry.

HPSA-7100-R Series Installation and User Manual iii
P/N P01- 04946 Rev C
•Installation of the HPSA and Speaker/Horn assemblies should be designed and inspected for structural
safety and integrity by qualified personnel. All installations should be in compliance with local and national
codes and the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
•When designing and installing electronic connections and cable runs, care should be taken to properly route
and separate AC power, RF and Signaling cables.
•Use all weight considerations and safety precautions when lifting and moving the HPSA cabinet.
CAUTIONS
All Cautions used in this manual must be adhered to. General cautions are listed below, however, these cautions and
other installation and equipment specific cautions may appear throughout the manual, as well.
•Turn the speaker driver until tight and the drain hole is at the bottom. Failure to properly position the drain
hole may result in water build up and equipment damage.
•Adequately tighten the hexagon head bolts securing the speakers to their mount. If not tightened, speakers
may loosen and cause damage to equipment.
•To minimize possible equipment damage from electrical surges caused by lightning, all cables entering the
electronics cabinet should be properly grounded according to local electrical codes. Enclose all cables inside
metallic pipes and properly ground the pipes. Connect all cables to surge suppressors (MOV to ground), and
use a ground mat in sandy areas.
•If using a USB RS-232 dongle, ensure it is not bumped during the firmware download process. If the cable is
disconnected or the dongle is bumped, the connection may be lost, and it will not be possible to download
firmware using HyperTerminal. It will be necessary to re-program the DC board.
•It is recommended that corrosion resistant conduits be used for housing cables and wires to and from the
HPSA, Speakers, and other system equipment.
•Use shielded twisted pair cable for all Audio connections to minimize interference such as Modulation
Distortion and interference of Audio Amps. Take care to ground one end of the shielded cable.
•AC Power, Data and Audio cables should be placed in separate conduits, to minimize the risk of
interference.
•Recommended wiring distance between the HPSA and Speakers is 100 ft. max. Each Speaker should have a
separate cable run.
•When installing the Speakers/Horn Assemblies, care should be taken to use corrosion resistant material for
hardware and support structures such as struts, fasteners, straps, banding, etc.
•When installing the Speakers/Horn Assemblies, consider the use of an anti-seize compound (such as
Crouse-Hinds STL Thread Lubricant) to prevent driver threaded couplings from binding, corroding, and
pitting. Select an appropriate compound based on environmental factors and the type of hardware and
materials used during installation.
•All wiring to and from the HPSA must be Class 2/Power Limited.
