9610A Brick LED Light
Operating Instructions
READ CAREFULLY AND COMPLETELY
Description:
1. The 9610A Brick LED Light is one of a family of similar Lights (9610A, B, C, and D)
manufactured by Western Technology, Inc. The 9610A is UL and CSA Certified
Explosion Proof compliant for use in:
Class I Division 1 & 2, Zone 1 & 2, Groups C, D
Class II Division 1 & 2, Zone 20, 21 & 22, Groups F, G
Suitable for Wet Locations
2. The 9610A Brick LED Light is equipped with 96 High Bright White LEDs with a
Color Temperature of 6000°K +/- 200°K. Altogether the 96 LEDSs generate 50,000
Lux at 1-foot with a spectral range of 410 to 700 nm having no UV emission.
3. The 9610A Brick LED Light, with a variable T4/T5 temperature rating (see product
label) utilizes integrated Temperature Control Safety TechnologyTM to monitor
operating temperature so that a safe T4 Thermal Rating is never exceeded. If
automatically engaged by working and ambient conditions, the processor will
temporarily reduce the light (and thus heat) output, which ensures safety in field
operation.
4. The standard 9610A Brick LED Light model features a fixed 60° Beam Angle
reflector optic.
6. The 9610A Brick LED Light is designed to allow in the field addition of beam
diffusion and filter materials as well as polycarbonate lens protectors.
7. The 9610A Brick LED Light is fitted with Steel Discs on four sides of the light body
to facilitate versatile magnetic and mechanical mounting and connecting options
specifically engineered for this light.

WARNING AND NOTICE
THE LGHT AND POWER BOX ARE SEALED UNITS; DO NOT OPEN THESE
UNITS AND DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPLACE THE CABLE. ANY SUCH
EVENT WILL (1) VOID THE WARRANTY, (2) CAUSE DE-CERTIFCATION
OF THE LIGHT, AND (3) CREATE A RISK OF EXPLOSION.
8. Illustrated below is the single handled (dual handle, optional) 9610A Brick LED
EXPLOSION PROOF Light Body and NON-explosion proof power Connection
Box. The Brick comes standard with 100 feet of SOOW cable connecting the Light
Body to the power Connection Box; the primary power cord is a 6-foot SOOW
cable fitted with a standard NON-EXPLOSION PROOF 120VAC/15A Plug.
9. As shown above, standard rough usage Polyurethane Bumpers are fitted to each
end of the Brick and Connection Box. These bumpers provide protection to both
working surfaces and the 9610A Brick LED Light/Connection Box.
9610A Brick LED Light Safety:
To reduce the risk of ignition of hazardous atmospheres, any repair made to this
lighting unit is only to be made by the manufacturer or its authorized representatives.
Risk of Explosion - Do Not Connect to a Power Source in a Hazardous
Location.

1. It is recommended that you implement a standard monthly or more frequent
preventive maintenance schedule for 9610A Brick LED Lights and accessories.
Safety requires a thorough visual examination of the unit for physical damage that
might cause a spark or result in the ignition of hazardous atmospheres.
Maintenance includes a careful examination to ensure at least that:
A. The 9610A Brick LED Light Body is not cracked, broken or breeched.
B. The Lens is not cracked or chipped.
C. The Braided Cable Strain Reliefs are not frayed and are gripping the Cable
tightly in all points of cable contact.
D. The Cable Jacket is completely intact and that no internal conductors or
conductor insulation is exposed.
E. The Connection Box is not cracked, broken or breeched.
F. The Cord Plug is not cracked or damaged and the Ground Post is intact.
G If your light has the MDCM processor (option) installed, please see separate
instructions.*
*Note: The 9610A Brick is available with an optional Integrated Maintenance Duty
Cycle Monitoring™(MDCM) processor which can be used to signal required
preventive maintenance examination of the equipment. Contact Western
Technology for more information
2. For your safety and to maximize the life of the 9610A Brick LED Light –
Avoid rough usage such as:
A. Pulling the 9610A Brick LED Light or Connection Box by the Cable, which
could weaken or damage the Cable. Move or carry holding ONLY the
handle.
B. Severely bending the Cable at any point, especially the Strain Reliefs.
Repeated bending will both damage the Strain Relief braiding, which
weakens its grip strength on the Cable; and may ultimately breech the Cable
jacket allowing the internal conductors to fail.
C. Impacting the lens with hard, sharp or heavy objects, which will cause the
lens to scratch, chip, crack, or shatter.
D. Setting the 9610A Brick LED Light FACE DOWN, especially on abrasive
surfaces, which might result in chipping, scratching, abrading or cracking of
the Lens.
E. Operation of the 9610A Brick LED Light without the Bumpers.
F. Disconnecting the Cord Plug from the receptacle by pulling on the Cable.
3. Keeping the 9610A Brick LED Light clean and free of material splatter, overspray,
and debris during usage will ensure the maximum life and luminosity of the light.

CAUTION - AVOID DIRECT EYE EXPOSURE
Do Not look at the face of or directly into Light when plugging in
or when illuminated
9610A Brick LED Light Operation:
ONLY THE LIGHT BODY AND CABLE TO THE CONNECTION BOX ARE
EXPLOSION PROOF RATED. THE CONNECTION BOX AND CORD WITH PLUG
MUST BE PLACED OUTSIDE THE HAZARDOUS LOCATION ENVIRONMENT
1. Before operation of the 9610A Brick Light, confirm that the Power Source
receptacle is located outside the Hazardous Environment and provides
115VAC/2.2A (230VAC/1.2A).
2. Note: The 9610A Brick LED Light is an “instant-on” light source when plugged into
a live circuit. Ensure the 9610A Brick LED Light is pointing in a direction away from
all individuals before plugging the light into the receptacle.
3. The 9610A Brick Light will immediately illuminate to its maximum luminosity and is
ready for safe usage in Hazardous Locations as listed with a life expectancy of
30,000 hours+ depending on handling.
4. The 9610A Brick LED Light may ONLY be connected and mounted with
Western Technology designed accessories and mounting options. Magnetic
Mounting uses the Steel Disc mounting plates affixed to the sides/end of the
9610A Brick LED Light. Some options include:
Handled Puck
Knuckle
Tripod/Quadpod (short and tall)
A-Frame
Ground Stake
Pipe Clamp Adaptor
Ladder Mount
Cart Rack

5. To switch OFF the 9610A Brick LED Light disconnect the Plug from the receptacle.
6. Gather the 9610A Brick LED Light for storage until further use is required.
