Battery Installation
The WIZARD requires 3 x AAA alkaline batteries (not included).
1. Remove the battery cover on the back of the WIZARD.
2. Insert batteries making sure that the + & - signs on the batteries corre-
spond to those in the battery compartment.
3. Replace the battery cover. Your WIZARD is now ready for operation.
Battery Low
If none of the DEVICE LEDS operate or the WIZARD only operates at close
range it is probable that you need to replace your old batteries.
Average alkaline battery life is approximately 6 months. If you are not using
the remote for extended periods of time, please remove batteries and store
them in a cool, dry place.
Setting up the WIZARD.
The WIZARD is capable of operating up to 4 devices including TV, VCR,
Satellite receiver/Cable TV and CD/HiFi in any combination. And using the
SHIFT key an additional 4 devices, again in any combination.
There are two ways to set up the WIZARD using the codes pre-programmed
into memory.
1. By using the LIBRARY SEARCH routine.
2. By entering the MANUFACTURER ID CODE.
Instructions for both follow.
In addition it is possible to program individual keys using the LEARNING
FACILITY providing you have a functioning original remote (see page 5).
Set-up by LIBRARY SEARCH
1. Switch on your device manually or with your original remote control.
2. Press the Power and Mute keys together until STATUS LED stays
RED (approx. 2 seconds).
3. Press the required DEVICE KEY (eg press TV if you want to set-up a TV) and
the DEVICE KEY will light up.

5. When your device switches off press the lit DEVICE KEY once to stop the
Library Search. Now try the keys on the remote control.
NB: If you accidentally skipped a code that turned your device off, you can
go one code back by pressing the Mute key.
6. If the code you find doesn’t work correctly, press the DEVICE KEY for 1 sec-
ond and the DEVICE KEY will flash once. Repeat steps 4 to 6 until you find the
code that best operates your device. When you reach the end of the library,
the STATUS LED will flash twice per second and the set up mode is cancelled.
7. After you have found a suitable code, press the DEVICE KEY 3 times until
the DEVICE KEY and STATUS LED go out. The code is then stored.
8. If after you have set-up the WIZARD for your first 4 devices you wish to
set-up additional devices (5-8) follow steps 1-3 then press the SHIFT KEY, the
STATUS LED will change to GREEN, then press a device key and the STATUS
LED will change to RED. You can then set up a SHIFT mode device by follow-
ing steps 4-7.

or vice versa.
5. Using the channel no. keys type in the 4 digit MANUFACTURER ID CODE
from the code list.
6. Then to set-up a TV press the 1 key. To set-up a VCR press the 2 key. To
set-up a SAT press the 3 key. If you are programming any other device, press

Code Recall function
The Code Recall function allows you to directly program into the WIZARD the
exact code for your make and model of device. This is especially useful if
your WIZARD accidentally looses your stored codes. You are advised to write
down the recalled codes in the reserved space on the back of this manual.
The Customer Careline may also need your codes in the event of a problem.
1. Press Power and Mute key together until STATUS LED stays on
(approx. 2 seconds). If you wish to recall the code for a device stored in
SHIFT mode press the SHIFT KEY now.
2. Press required DEVICE KEY. and the DEVICE KEY will light up.
3 Press 8888 plus a digit from 1 to 8. e.g. for TV 88881, for VCR 88882, for
SAT/CATV 88883, for AUX 88884 and for SHIFT TV 88885.
4. For the first digit of your code, press 1 and count the number of times the
STATUS LED flashes on the WIZARD. If the LED does not light up the digit is
zero (duration between flashes is 1 second). To find the 2nd digit of your
code press 2, for the 3rd digit press 3 ,for the 4th digit press 4 and for the
fifth digit press 5 each time count the number of times the LED flashes.
5. Press the lit DEVICE KEY to exit Code Recall mode. The DEVICE KEY will turn
off.
Set-up by LEARNING FACILITY.
To set-up by learning codes you will need a fully functional original remote
control.
Please note that the WIZARD can only learn infrared commands. It is not
compatible with UHF and Ultrasonic remote controls. There are also a number
of infrared remote controls that use encoding methods which the WIZARD
cannot learn.
1. Press the Power and Mute keys together until STATUS LED comes
on.

KEY, the STATUS LED will change to GREEN, then press a device key and the

3. Type in the correct LEARNING CODE from the table below to activate the
Learning function. The STATUS LED flashes once, showing that it is now in
learning mode.
LEARNING CODES
TV: 55551 (SHIFT TV: 55555)
VCR: 55552 (SHIFT VCR: 55556)
SAT/CATV: 55553 (SHIFT SAT/CATV: 55557)
AUX: 55554 (SHIFT AUX: 55558)
4. Align the sensor of your
original remote control with
the bottom end of the
WIZARD approximately 3 to
5 cm apart.
5. Choose a function key on
the WIZARD which you want to use to duplicate/store the function from the
original remote, press and release.
6. Press and hold down the selected function key on the original remote. The
STATUS LED on the WIZARD will flash continuously to indicate that the code is
being copied. When the WIZARD has finishing copying the code the STATUS
LED will then flash once to indicate that the code has been learnt. You can
now release the selected function key on your original remote. If the STATUS
LED flashes twice, an error has occurred in the learning process. Repeat the
learning process from step 6 onwards. See “Learning Errors” section if prob-
lems persist.
7. To program the next function key operating the same device repeat steps
6-8
8. When you have finished programming the various keys on your WIZARD,
press the DEVICE KEY. The STATUS LED and DEVICE KEY will go off and your
codes will now be stored.
NB: In the LEARNING mode, if no key is pressed for over 10 seconds, LEARN-
ING mode ends automatically.
Trouble Shooting Learning Errors
When the STATUS LED flashes twice at the end of the learning process an
error has occurred. Repeat the learning process from the beginning of the
learning set-up section. If the error persists it may be for one of the following
reasons:
1. Alignment of the two remotes is not correct
2. You may be holding down the key of the original remote control for too
long. Try pressing the key for a shorter period of time (about 1 second).

3. The WIZARD may not be able to duplicate the signals from your remote if
it operates on unusual frequencies.
If during the learning process the STATUS LED flashes continuously for longer
than 35 seconds remove a battery and wait a minute before replacing. This
will re-boot the WIZARD much like a computer.
4. If an error occurs every time you try to use the learning process, the
memory of the WIZARD may be full. This will only happen when quite a few
remotes have been learnt and/or macros programmed. And to program a
new key you will first have to delete a less important key.
ADVANCED OPERATIONS
SHIFT DEVICE operation
When operating devices using the SHIFT key (SHIFT DEVICES 5-8), the Wizard
stays in the SHIFT DEVICE mode until any DEVICE KEY is pressed.
