2.7 Intended Use / Indications
The Woodway PPS Series fall protection system and its individual models are acces-
sories for Woodway PPS series treadmills. The fall protection system may be used
exclusively in combination with medical PPS series treadmills.
Since the fall protection system is an accessory for the Woodway PPS series tread-
mills, the same indications apply, which have already been mentioned in the intend-
ed use of Woodway medical PPS Series slat-belt treadmills.
In addition, a fall protection system with emergency stop is recommended / re-
quired for the following medical fields of application:
•Performance Diagnostics (step test, ramp tests for maximum exertion of the
athlete).
•Running analysis with direction reversal.
•Insufficient safe distance behind the treadmill
(Less than 200 x 100 cm) or in front of the treadmill, if direction reversal is
used.
•Treadmills with running surfaces larger than 15 x55 cm.
•Therapy with children.
•Therapy with patients who can stand/walk but are prone to falling
(Due to age or illness / disability).
The use of fall protection is not required for everyday use in medical applications,
such as warming up for medical training therapy or cardiovascular training.
2.8 Contraindications
Since the fall protection system is an accessory for the Woodway PPS Series tread-
mills, the same contraindications apply, which have already been mentioned in the
intended use of Woodway medical PPS Series slat-belt treadmills.
Furthermore, use is prohibited under the following conditions:
•Body weight less than 200 kg (chest-shoulder harness sizes M and L)
•Body weight less than 100 kg (chest-shoulder harness size S)
•Body weight less than 15 kg (triggering force rope pull switches)
•Osseous instability in the chest area (non-consolidated fractures, unstable
spine, severe osteoporosis)
•Open skin lesions in the torso area.
The attending physician and competent therapist are responsible for assessing the
therapy capability and thus for making individual decisions for each patient, deter-
mining possible risks and side effects of therapy compared to their benefits.

Woodway PPS Series Accessories / Fall Protection Operating Instructions

5.2 Function Descri tion
Despite compliance with all safety requirements, there is till the risk of injury to the
user when using a treadmill. During intense exercises and practices, or prolonged
exercise duration, the user's constitution and concentration can decrease which in-
creases the risk of falling. There is an increased risk of injury from falling, especially
in rehabilitation where patients with various physical limitations use the treadmill.
To minimize the risk of injury on the treadmill, a fall protection system with
•a suspension frame,
•a chest-shoulder harness,
•and an emergency stop system
can prevent the user from falling. The use of a fall protection system can prevent
serious injury/abrasions which are caused by the impact of the whole body on the
moving running surface or backwards movement.
The additional integration of the fall protection system in the emergency stop
control circuit, causes the tread to stop immediately in case of a fall.
In addition to the emergency stop function, the fall protection system catches the
user in case of a fall.
The chest-shoulder harness is designed so that the body cannot tip forward. The
harness does not cut into the user or constricted the user's movement. The chest-
shoulder harness is available in sizes S, M, and L and is connected via a pull line
(rope) with emergency stop system on the suspension frame. If there is more than
15 kg force on the emergency stop system, the treadmill stops immediately. The
maximum body weight (working load) is 200 kg. The length of the line (rope) can
be individually adjusted to different body sizes.
ATTENTION
There is a risk of injury from not observing the weight limit!
If too little weight is applied the emergency stop will not be triggered! There
is a danger of injury!
►The PPS fall protection system may not be used below a weight of 15 kg.
