2.2.1. Setting up the Modems
The modems are pre-configured and
will automatically connect* to your
provider's network when the SIM
cards are inserted, and the battery is
connected.
The modems are located in the bag.
Unzip the all-around zipper on the
rear of the bag to access the modems.
Fold the modems out of the mold so
that you do not have to remove the
cables. If the Eth cable is unplugged,
put it back in the yellow LAN con-
nector.

2.2.2. The Battery
Before connecting the battery, check the battery's charge state by pressing the
power button. Four LEDs indicate the state (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%).
Important: The battery can deliver different output voltages.
Make sure the voltage selector LED displays 12VDC!
Changing the supply Voltage
Press and hold the power button for more than one second until the voltage indicator
LEDs flash. Another short touch of the power button changes the voltage. When 12VDC
is reached, stop switching and release the button. After approx. three seconds, the
voltage selection is displayed statically.
Connecting the Battery
When the battery is sufficiently charged, and the voltage selection LED shows 12VDC,
connect the Mobile SureStreamer to the battery. Inside the battery box is the connec-
tion cable that you connect to the output socket of the battery (blue arrow on image).
The two sockets for the round plug have the same size. One is to connect the charger,
and the other is the power output. Due to the arrangement of the cables, a mix-up is
unlikely. Should there be an accidental mix-up, there will be no damage. Both round
sockets are electrically protected against damage.
The two USB ports can be used for charging a phone or other accessories.

2.2.3. Connecting to the Mobile SureStreamer Management Interface
The Mobile SureStreamer's WiFi router allows you can connect to the management in-
terface and to the Internet.
On your PC, enable the WiFi (DHCP mode) and check available wireless networks
The SSID of the Mobile SureStreamer network is: MSSr_S4xxxxx e.g. MSSr_S400049
[serial-number]
The network passphrase is individual for each SureStreamer and is the same as the
SSID, e.g., SSID: MSSr_S400049, passphrase: MSSr_S400049
The WIFI router assigns an IP address to your PC in the range of
192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.105
If you have several Mobile SureStreamer, turn them on one at a time to identify
them properly the first time.
2.2.4. Test the Modem Connection
If the modems are successfully connected to the networks, you have Internet access via
the WIFI network. Internet access is provided via the modem at ETH0 by default.
Another reliable indication for a functioning modem connection is the IP address at
ETH0 and ETH1. Both interfaces should have public IP addresses (refer to Figure 2-5).
'
2.2.5. Default Gateway for Internet Access
The Mobile SureStreamer needs working Internet access to resolve used hostnames
(DNS lookup). You can determine which modem is used to access the Internet.
Navigate to the network configuration page in the system menu. At the top of the
page, you can select the default gateway. The modem connected to the selected de-
fault gateway (ETH0 or ETH1) will provide Internet access.
The dropdown list makes all four ETH interfaces available for selection. However,
for standard applications, the modems are connected to ETH0 and ETH1.

3.0 Getting Started
Depending on the type of content you want to transmit with the SureStreamer, there
are two transfer modes available. The configurations for both modes are different, so
they are described in separate chapters.
3.1. Determine the Connection Mode
There are two connection modes
SureStream (IP Audio Codecs)
SureStreamVPN
3.2. SureStream for IP Audio (chapter 4.0)
Select this mode if you transmit audio, and your endpoint in the studio is an APT Audio
Codec that supports APT SureStream (by license). For this configuration, follow the in-
structions in chapter 4.0.
Figure 3-1 shows the typical application for SureStream (audio)
3.3. SureStreamVPN (chapter 5.0)
Select this mode if you transmit audio, video, or data. The SureStreamVPN connection
requires a (rackmount) SureStreamer at the endpoint. For the SureStreamVPN configu-
ration, follow the instructions in chapter 5.0.
Figure 3-2 shows an application for SureStreamVPN, connecting a venue to the studio

Quick Start Tutorial: APT Mobile SureStreamer
Page 12
4.0 Configure SureStream for IP Audio Codecs
4.1. Connecting your IP Codec
In the front pocket of the bag, there is an RJ45 adapter that allows you to connect your
Codec to the ETH2 interface of the Mobile SureStreamer.
This is the LAN port of the Mobile SureStreamer.
Connect your IP Codec to it.
Figure 4-1 shows the physical connection of your Codec to the Mobile SureStreamer
Your Codec's IP address needs to be in the range 192.168.102.xxx / subnet mask
255.255.255.0. –Alternatively, your Codec can also be configured through the
DHCP server of the Mobile SureStreamer (refer to section 4.3.2)
Once the Codec is connected, configure an audio stream in your IP codec with the
destination address: 192.168.102.112 with UDP port 5004.
In this instruction, the Mobile SureStreamer expects a bi-directional RTP/UDP stream
on ETH2 and port 5004, if you generate a simplex stream (send only) the return path to
your Codec will be ignored.
Depending on the brand and type of your Codec, the streams are generated in different
ways. Please consult the manual of your Codec for details.

Page 13
4.2. Create a new Connection Profile using a Template
Click on "Connection Configuration" (refer to Figure 2-5)
The Mobile SureStreamer is delivered with the "Default" profile and several profile
templates. The "Default" profile is an empty profile. We recommend that you leave this
profile empty.
The streams configuration page presents the currently loaded profile. On the left side,
you can see the configured profiles and below the available templates (100-numbers).
"Current Profile" on top of the list shows the currently active profile.
Chose a Connection Template
Select the "Bi-directional Dialer" template (#100) suitable for the Mobile
SureStreamer in the field and click on "Profiles/Save as…" to create a copy of it. We
rename this copy to "My Profile."
A profile consists of multiple streams.
1. The LAN stream, to/from the local Codec to the Mobile SureStreamer
(stream #0)
2. A total of four WAN streams, to/from the Internet via the two modems
(stream #1-#4)
3. A local monitor stream (combined stream), which is a virtual stream that makes the
performance of the entire WAN route visible (stream #5).
Figure 4-2 Shows the connection page where profiles are managed

Quick Start Tutorial: APT Mobile SureStreamer
Page 14
4.3. Connecting to the studio endpoint
With the previously created profile (My Profile), you can now build a bi-directional link
from your Mobile SureStreamer to your Studio Endpoint (Codec).
4.3.1. Modifying the Streams Table
For a clear understanding of the stream configuration, it is helpful to see the whole ap-
plication diagram. This application represents a typical bidirectional audio communica-
tion between two codecs.
This application implies that the receiver is an APT Codec that is licensed with
SureStream.
Figure 4-3 Shows the configuration of stream #0 to stream #4
The figure shows how the streams are routed from the sender to the receiver. Both
modems send duplicated streams over both mobile networks reaching both ETH inter-
faces at the studio endpoint.
The diagram also shows the streams which you need to modify, the LAN stream
(stream #0) between the Codec and the Mobile SureStreamer, and four WAN streams
(streams #1 to #4) routed via the air interfaces (modems) to your Codec at the end-
point.
If your Studio Endpoint has only one Internet access, then configure all WAN
streams (stream #1 to #3) to the interface of your Codec connected to the Internet
router. The following section will point out this option.

Quick Start Tutorial: APT Mobile SureStreamer
Page 15
4.3.2. Modify the LAN Stream (stream #0)
Configure your Audio Codec's IP address into the range of 192.168.102.xxx
The SureStreamer LAN port (ETH2) has the default address: 192.168.102.112
Figure 4-4 shows the principle of the stream configurations
The Mobile SureStreamer can use DHCP to configure the IP address of your Codec.
To do this, select the "DHCP Server" mode for ETH2 in the Mobile SureStreamer on
the network configuration page. You must also configure your Codec as a DHCP cli-
ent.
Select the new profile you have just created from the list of profiles "My Profile"
and start editing the LAN stream to/from your Codec (stream #0). Double-clicking
on the stream opens the Stream Configuration window, as shown on the next page.
Make sure your Codec is in the previously mentioned IP address range, and the
destination IP port 5004 is set. In case your Codec does not support this IP port
(5004), you can change the port of stream #0 on the Mobile SureStreamer accord-
ingly.
Figure 4-5 highlights the LAN stream (#0) between the Codec and the SureStreamer on the streams table

Modify the WAN Streams (continued)
Configure the destination IP addresses of the streams (#1-4) so that these streams
can reach the public IP address of your APT Codec at the studio endpoint.
Alternatively, you can also use hostnames if you have activated a dynamic DNS cli-
ent in the router or the Codec.

The example screenshot (Figure 4-7) of the WAN stream configuration window shows
hostnames instead of destination IP addresses.
4.3.4. Determining the public IP Addresses of your Studio Endpoint
Public IP addresses can be assigned dynamically or statically by your Internet provider
(ISP). If the Studio Gateway Router has a static IP address, you can use it as the destina-
tion address in the Mobile SureStreamer. If the IP address is assigned dynamically, then
we recommend that you set up hostnames for your studio codec using a Dynamic DNS
service. You can find out your current public IP address using Internet Tools.
Navigate from a PC in your studio network, e.g., to this link: https://www.myip.com, or
https://www.whatsmyip.org.
To set up Host Names in your Codec, follow the instructions in chapter 4.4.5.

4.3.5. Apply the new profile to the Mobile SureStreamer
Click on "Apply" to save and apply the new profile. It then appears under the head-
ing "Current Profile" in the profile list.
Figure 4-8 shows the completed stream configuration on the steams table
4.4. Configure your APT IP Codec in the Studio
An APT Codec with an applied SureStream license can be connected directly to the DSL
gateway in the studio.
Summary of necessary steps of configuration
Manage the Port Forwarding on your Gateway Router
Connect the Codec to your Network
Open the Codec Web GUI
Configure the Network Settings
Create a new connection profile
Create the Streams of the new Profile
Apply the new profile to the unit
4.4.1. Manage the Port Forwarding on your Gateway Router
The streams from your Mobile SureStreamer reach your Codec in the studio through
the Internet Gateway, which is your (xDSL, cable, etc.) router. If you have connected
your Codec to your network in the next step, you can configure port forwarding in the
Gateway Router.
You need to forward the ports UDP(!) 5006 to 5013 to your codec address. Depending
on the router model, this is configured in different ways, but it is always about unblock-
ing or forwarding the ports to your codec IP address(es) in the local network.

Quick Start Tutorial: APT Mobile SureStreamer

4.4.2. Connect the Codec to your Network
The APT IP Codec has two physical Ethernet ports. The following picture shows the de-
tails.

ETH0 - Management
Network A
https 443

Table 2 lists the default network settings of both ETH ports for the browser connection
The configuration of the IP addresses depends on the IP address ranges of the DSL net-
work(s). In principle, you can configure the ports via DHCP or better static. A static ad-
dress facilitates management access.
Connect your PC to ETH0 and set the IP address of the PC in the subnetwork
192.168.100.xxx (Network A). The APT IP Codec allows you to manage it on both ports.
!Important: You must not configure both ETH interfaces in the same subnetwork! If you
have only one gateway for the Internet, you can only connect it to the Codec once. In
this case, you must enter the same destination address in the Mobile SureStreamer for
all four WAN streams. You can use the second, unoccupied ETH interface to manage
the Codec.
