legislation.
The head may only be used and maintained by personnel
who have undergone training approved by the
manufacturer.
Make sure you are familiar with local occupational safety
legislation on working with forestry machinery, as well as
the safety precautions that apply to operation of the
harvester head. You can read about them later in this
manual and on decals affixed to the machine.
All modifications, including those mentioned in these
instructions, which involve cutting, grinding, welding etc.
may be made by an authorized service person only. The
structure of the device must not be weakened by these
operations.
Always consult the manufacturer before making any
modifications to the device under warranty. The

Understand Signal Words
TS187 –19–30SEP88
A signal word - DANGER,WARNING or CAUTION -is
used with the safety-alert symbol. DANGER identifies the
most serious hazards.
DANGER and WARNING safety signs are located near
specific hazards. General precautions are listed on
CAUTION safety signs. CAUTION also calls attention to
safety messages in this manual.
TK01162,0000013 –19–18JAN02–1/1
Follow Safety Instructions
TS201 –UN–23AUG88
Carefully read all safety messages in this manual and on
your machine safety signs. Keep safety signs in good
condition. Replace missing or damaged safety signs. Be
sure new equipment components and repair parts include
the current safety signs. Replacement safety signs are
available from your dealer.
Learn how to operate the machine and how to use
controls properly. Do not let anyone operate without
instruction.
Keep your machine in proper working condition.
Unauthorized modifications to the machine may impair the
function and/or safety and affect machine life.
If you do not understand any part of this manual and need
assistance, contact your dealer.

Safety - Operating Precautions
TK01162,0000018 –19–22JAN02–1/1
Operating Safety Precautions
CAUTION: Danger of uncontrolled falling!
The multi-tree-handling clamps keep a tree up
for a moment alone. In that case a large stem
may try to slip out and fall on the base
machine, for example.
Always be careful. Never use the device if there
are people in the danger zone (90 m).
The maximum diameter breast height of a
multi-tree-handled stem is 200 mm.
IMPORTANT: Read also the safety instructions for the
harvester head and follow them!
Never step within the reach of the delimbing knives when
the device is in operation.
Do not let a fallen tree rest against the device.
Never exceed the biggest recommended diameter breast
height in multi-tree-handling.
Stop the engine and rest the harvester head firmly on the
ground before servicing or lubricating.

Mounting instructions
TK01162,0000095 –19–10JUL03–1/2
Mounting
1. Check in the parts list that you have all the necessary
parts and tools.
2. Clean the grapple if necessary. Place the grapple on a
solid base and support it firmly. Keep the engine in
working order.
3. Remove the fixing screws of the rotator from the tilting
arm.
4. Extend the rotator hoses approx. 300 mm with
extension hoses and suitable nipples (not included in
the delivery).
5. Place the multi-handling device on the tilting frame.
Fasten the multi-handling device from the top to the
rotator and from the bottom to the tilting arm. Use a
torque of 208 Nm for M16 screws. Also use Loctite
243.
6. Connect the hydraulic hoses. First tighten the hose
coupling manually, then turn the coupling nut a quarter
of a revolution with a spanner.
7. Open the protective valve casing of the grapple. Tie up
the hose-protected cable from the electric valve of the
multi-handling device with bundle straps to the major
pressure hose connected to the valve block.
8. Connect the cable of the electric valve to the vacant
terminal block of the connection box on the valve
block. Write down the number of both the terminal
block and the cable. Seal up the lead-through of the
electric cable in the connection box.
9. Establish electrical connection to the basic machine
according to the wiring diagram 338000 (see chapter
5). Connect the wire for the grapple to the back wall of
the cab to the plug which has the same number as the
wire.
10. Fasten the electrical connection plate shown in the
wiring diagram 338000 (see chapter 5) onto the side
of the control centre on the back wall of the cab.

TK01162,0000095 –19–10JUL03–2/2
11. Replace the feed rollers of the multi-handling device
with new ones. Use a torque of 125 Nm for M12
screws. Check the position of the rollers when closed.
Adjust the stops for closing if necessary.
12. Check the tightness of the couplings and tighten up
the screws before start-up tests.
13. To guarantee a flawless operation of the
multi-handling device, make sure that the rear knife
by the saw is in place and in operation.

Instructions for use
TK01162,0000096 –19–10JUL03–1/1
General
By means of multi-tree-handling a harvester can process
15-40 % more stems than by the traditional working
method. The remaining trees do not get damaged, if all
stems are not felt one by one in a thick forest.
The stems are delimbed and cut in a bunch. Feeding and
crosscutting is done in the same way than with a normal
harvester head. Because the feeding rollers have
four-wheel drive, they are able to feed several stems
without problem. Also individual stems can be processed
normally. The multi-tree-handling feeding rollers hold large
stems even better than the standard rollers.
TK01162,0000097 –19–10JUL03–1/1
Start-up
T193222 –UN–17JUL03
1—To open the clamps, press.
2—To open the clamps when tilting, press. The signal
lamp lights up.
1. Start the engine and check that the cylinder moves in
the correct direction.
2. Move the saw once as if sawing while the grapple is in
the upright position for felling. The clamps open to
allow sawing. The grapple must stay upright after the
tree has been cut.
3. Press the button for tilting. The clamps open and the
grapple “falls” in the limbing position at the same time.

Instructions for use
TK01162,0000098 –19–10JUL03–1/1
Operation
These instructions apply to FMG 1000 and Lokomatic 90
automatics. There are separate instructions for Tj 3000.
The signal lamp must be on during multi-handling.
The leading idea is that no extra buttons are needed to
use a multi-handling device.
For example, if you wish to handle two stems at the same
time, proceed as follows: Instead of tilting the grapple in
the delimbing position after cutting the first tree, open the
grapple and move the grapple and the first stem against
the next tree. Choose the suitable cutting height with the
crane. Press the rollers and the knives against the tree.
When you press the tilting button after this, the clamps let
go both stems when tilting is enabled. Feeding and
sawing are carried out as with an ordinary harvester head.
Since the feed rollers have a "four-wheel drive", feeding
several stems at the same time is effortless.
If the delimbing knives tend to make chips, use the
automatic to shorten the pulses for the closing of the
delimbing knives or drop the knife pressure (see harvester
head service manual; adjustment of delimbing knives min.
pressure). You can also put in adjusting washers under
the lower screws of the upper knife (between the knife
and the harvester-head body) to make the knives press
against the stems less closely. In multi-handling, there are
greater deviations in length and top diameter
measurements than in the ordinary one-stem handling.
Volume calculation is in principle possible if the 2-, 3- or
4-stem handling is taken into account by using appropriate
coefficients. In practice, however, it is advisable to make
use of the factory setting. Multi-handling is possible within
the limits of grapple and extra-clamp dimensions. The
lifting capacity of the crane may be a limiting factor when
working at the extreme limit of the crane range. In other
words, make sure that the last stem you take is not the
one farthest away.
When the signal lamp is off, the harvester head can be
used in the normal way since the extra clamps keep
folded up. It is advisable to use the harvester head this
way e.g. when deforesting.
