Getting Started

T e press serial number can be accessed from t e User Interface (UI) or from t e serial number plate
w ic is located on t e inside frame of Tray 1.
1. Press t e Machine Status button on t e UI.
2. From t e Machine Status screen, ensure t at t e Device Information tab is displayed.
T e press serial number is displayed under Device Serial Number near t e bottom of t e screen.
3. If t ere is a loss of power and it is not possible to access t e Machine Status screen, t e press
serial number can also be found on t e inside frame of t e press near t e Paper Tray 1 drawer:
a. At t e press, fully open Tray 1.
b. At t e left of t e tray, on t e press frame, locate t e plate wit t e serial number (SER#).

Power On or Off the Press

1. C eck t at t e Main Power switc be ind t e Front Door is On.
2. Press t e Power button on top of t e press to t e ON position.
T e Services button glows blue.
A screen message advises of a s ort wait w ile t e fuser warms up and t e press runs a system
c eck. You can set features for a job during t is time and t e printing process will start
automatically w en t e press is ready.

Important: Always power off t e power button first, and t en power off t e main power
switc .
1. Press t e Power On/Off button on t e top of t e press to Off.
Wait until t e lig ts on UI stop blinking, as t is allows t e fuser to begin cooling.
2. Switc Off t e Main Power switc be ind t e Front Door.
Note: Allow t e press to remain off for a minimum of 10 seconds before switc ing on t e
power again.

Power Saver
T e Power Saver feature allows t e press to enter a reduced power consumption mode w en all print
jobs ave completed and t ere are no jobs currently processing. T ere are two power saving modes:
Low Power and Sleep.
By default, t e press automatically enters t e Low Power mode after 1 minute of inactivity. After 1
minute of inactivity, t e press t en enters Sleep mode. T ese time intervals for bot modes can be
c anged by t e system administrator.
Refer to t e following example:
• Low Power Mode is set to 1 minute.
• Sleep Mode is set to 10 minutes.
• Sleep Mode activates after 10 minutes of total inactivity and not 10 minutes after t e Low Power
Mode begins.

In t is mode, t e power to t e User Interface (UI) and fuser unit is lowered to save power. T e
display goes out and t e Power Saver button on t e UI lig ts. To use t e press, press t e Power
Saver button. T e Power Saver button is no longer lit, indicating t at t e Power Saver feature is
canceled.

In t is mode, t e power is lowered more t an in t e Low Power mode. T e display goes out and t e
Power Saver button on t e UI lig ts. To use t e press, press t e Power Saver button. T e Power Saver
button is no longer lit, indicating t at t e Power Saver feature is canceled.

T e press exits Power Saver mode by doing one of t e following:
• Pressing t e Power Saver button on t e press UI
• Receiving print data for an incoming job to be printed
• Programming and performing a copy or scan job

(DADF)
1. Adjust t e movable document guides to t eir widest position.
2. Load t e documents face up wit t e first page on top and wit t e eadings toward t e back or
left of t e press.
T e confirmation indicator lig ts to s ow t at t e documents are loaded correctly.
3. Press t e Home button on t e press UI.
4. Select Copy on t eHome window.
5. Select t e desired Copy features/options:
• Paper Supply
• Reduce/Enlarge
• Output Color
• 2-Sided Copying
• Original Type
• Lig ten/Darken
T e features displayed on t e main Copy window vary depending on ow it is configured by t e
administrator.
6. Enter t e quantity.
7. Press Start.

Basic Copying with the Document Glass
1. Open t e document feeder.
2. Place t e document face down by aligning it as s own in t e illustration.
3. Press t e Home button on t e press UI.
4. Select Copy on t e Home window.
5. Select t e desired Copy features or options:
• Paper Supply
• Reduce or Enlarge
• Output Color
• 2-Sided Copying
• Original Type
• Lig ten/Darken

Note: A paper jam may occur if a tray is opened w ile it is being used to feed stock.
1. Select t e appropriate paper stock for your print or copy job.
2. Pull out t e tray slowly until it stops.
3. Open t e ream of paper wit t e seam side facing up.
4. Fan t e s eets before loading t em into t e tray.
5. Load and align t e edge of t e paper against t e left edge of t e tray.
Paper can be loaded in eit er t e LEF/portrait or SEF/landscape direction.
6. Adjust t e paper guides by pressing in t e guide release and carefully moving t e Edge Guide
until it lig tly touc es t e edge of t e material in t e tray.
Do not load materials above t e MAX line located on t e rear Edge Guide.
7. Gently pus in t e tray until it comes to a stop.
If enabled by your System Administrator, t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties window may be
displayed on t e UI. You can view and set stock attributes and verify trays are assigned wit t e
correct stock.
8. From t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties window, c oose one of t e following:
• No c anges were made to t e paper tray; select Confirm to close t e window.
• C anges were made to t e paper tray; go to t e next step.
9. Select t e Chan e Settin s button.
a. Make t e desired selections for Paper Type/Paper Wei ht,Paper Size, and Paper Color.
b. If necessary, make t e desired c anges to paper curl and alignment adjustment.
c. Select Save until you are returned to t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties window.
d. Select Confirm or OK to save t e information and close t e Paper Tray settings/Tray
Properties window.

Loa ing Paper in the Bypass (Tray 5)
Note: T e following procedure s ows t e Bypass (Tray 5) located on top of t e 2-Tray OHCF.
1. Gently extend t e Bypass tray (Tray 5) as necessary to accommodate t e paper.
2. Hold t e center of t e paper guides and slide t em to t e desired paper size.
3. Select t e appropriate paper stock for your print/copy job.
4. Open t e ream of paper wit t e seam side facing up.
5. Fan t e s eets before loading t em into t e tray.
6. Insert t e paper or media into t e tray until it stops.
7. Adjust t e paper guides so t at t ey touc t e edges of t e stack.
If enabled by your System Administrator, t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties window may be
displayed on t e UI.

8. If t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties window displays on t e UI, confirm t e correct tray to
w ic it is printing and ot er information, including size, type (precut tab), and, if necessary,
paper curl and/or alignment option.
9. Select Confirm or OK to save t e information and close t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties
window.

Loa ing Envelopes in Tray 5 (Bypass)
It is recommended t at you print envelopes from t e Bypass (Tray 5). If you are required to print
envelopes from t e optional Trays 6 and 7, use t e Postcard Bracket.
Note: For information on supported envelope types and sizes, refer to t e Customer
Expectation and Installation Guide.
W en setting up your print job, select from t e following options:
•Envelope Feeder: used for standard-sized envelopes
•Chan e Settin s: used for custom-sized envelopes
Note: Store unused envelopes in t eir original packaging to avoid t e excess moisture or
dryness t at can affect print quality and cause wrinkling. Excessive moisture can cause t e
envelopes to seal before or during printing.
Some wrinkling or embossing can occur w en printing on envelopes. Successful envelope printing
depends on t e quality and construction of t e envelopes. Try anot er envelope brand if problems
occur.
W en defining custom paper settings at t e Paper Tray settings/Tray Properties window, assign t e
custom stock to t e Bypass Tray (Tray 5) or an Advanced Oversized Hig Capacity Feeder (Tray 6 or
7). Select Auto Detect for automatic size-detection or measure t e eig t and widt of t e envelope
wit t e flap closed, t en enter t e dimensions. For more detailed information, refer to t e following
steps.
1. Always load envelopes wit t e flaps closed.
Do not use padded envelopes.
2. W en loading in t e SEF direction, place t e flaps facing t e back of t e press. W en loading in
t e LEF direction, place t e flaps facing t e lead edge.
3. W en submitting your network print file, select Custom Paper as t e Paper Type. Enter t e
dimensions of t e envelope.
Measure t e widt from t e lead edge to t e trail edge of t e envelope. For example, if you load
SEF, enter t e long dimension of t e envelope as t e widt . If you load t e envelope LEF, enter
t e s ort dimension of t e envelope as t e widt .
4. Enter a eavy paper weig t value, suc as 220 g/m2in t e Paper Wei ht field.
A paper weig t of 220 is a good starting point. If t e printing is blurred or smeared, enter a
ig er value.
5. Select t e Bypass Tray (Tray 5) as t e Paper Source.
