SAFETY
TRAINING:
1. Readthismanual carefully andquestionyour dealer ifsomethingis not clear.
2. Bethoroughlyfamiliar with thecontrolsand proper useofthe equipment.
3. Neverallowchildren, teenagers, orpeopleunfamiliar withtheseinstructions to usethe
mower.
4. Donotmow while people, particularlychildren, orpetsare nearby.
PREPARATION:
1. Theuseof personal protective equipment suchas(but not limited to) protectionforthe
eyes,ears,feetandheadis recommended.
2. Neveroperatethe mower without properguards,covers,safety switches and devicesin
placeand properly functioning. Inspect these itemsdailyfortheircondition and proper op-
eration.If the condition or operation ofanyofthesedevices is questionable they mustbe
replacedorrepairedbefore using the mower.
3. Thoroughlyinspectthe area to be mowedandremoveall stones, sticks, wire andotherde-
bristhat may be thrown by themower. Also note or markotherobstaclessuchasholes,
stumps,etc..
4. Donot operate the mower when barefootorwearingopenshoes. Always wear substantial
footwearand longpants.
5. Fill gas tank before startingmower. DO NOTSMOKEneargasolinecontainers.Do not fill
gastank indoors or when engine is hotorrunning.Cleanoff any spilled gasoline before
startingthemower.
OPERATION:
1. Mowonlyin daylight or good artificial light.
2. Do not operate the mower in wet grass if possible.
3. Mow acrossslopes. Use extremecaution whenmowingorturningonslopes.Always turnto
thedownhill side. Do not mowexcessivelysteep slopes ( mower may tip over and cause
injury or death ).
4. Usecautionwhen backingup.
5. Stop thebladeswhen crossing surfacesotherthan grass; orwhentraveling to andfromthe
area to be mowed.
6. Never operatethe mowerwith defective,broken orexcessively wornparts. Keep allguards,
shields,andsafetydevicesinplaceand in proper working order.
7. Do notchange theenginegovernorsettingsoroverspeedtheengine. Operatingtheengine
atexcessive speeds will increasethehazardof injury and canseverelydamageyour ma
chine.
8. Keephands,feet and clothing awayfromrotatingpartswhenoperatingmower.
9. Stop the blades and engine before leaving theoperatorspositionforanyreason.
10. Nevermake adjustments tothemower whileengineand/or blades arerunning.
11. After striking a foreign object, stop mowerandremovekey. Inspect the mowerforanydam
ageandrepairit immediately before continuing to mow.
12. Neveroperatethisequipmentin an enclosed or confinedareawithoutproper ventilation of
theengineexhaust.
13. Donotallowanypassengerstorideonthemower. Keepothersaway fromthemowerwhen
inoperation.
