SAFETY
TRAINING:
1. Readthismanual carefully andquestionyour dealer ifsomethingis not clear.

mower.
4. Donotmow while people, particularlychildren, orpetsare nearby.
PREPARATION:
1. Theuseof personal protective equipment suchas(but not limited to) protectionforthe
eyes,ears,feetandheadis recommended.
2. Neveroperatethe mower without properguards,covers,safety switches and devicesin
placeand properly functioning. Inspect these itemsdailyfortheircondition and proper op-
eration.If the condition or operation ofanyofthesedevices is questionable they mustbe
replacedorrepairedbefore using the mower.
3. Thoroughlyinspectthe area to be mowedandremoveall stones, sticks, wire andotherde-
bristhat may be thrown by themower. Also note or markotherobstaclessuchasholes,
stumps,etc..
4. Donot operate the mower when barefootorwearingopenshoes. Always wear substantial
footwearand longpants.
5. Fill gas tank before startingmower. DO NOTSMOKEneargasolinecontainers.Do not fill
gastank indoors or when engine is hotorrunning.Cleanoff any spilled gasoline before
startingthemower.
OPERATION:
1. Mowonlyin daylight or good artificial light.
2. Do not operate the mower in wet grass if possible.
3. Mow acrossslopes. Use extremecaution whenmowingorturningonslopes.Always turnto
thedownhill side. Do not mowexcessivelysteep slopes ( mower may tip over and cause
injury or death ).
4. Usecautionwhen backingup.
5. Stop thebladeswhen crossing surfacesotherthan grass; orwhentraveling to andfromthe
area to be mowed.
6. Never operatethe mowerwith defective,broken orexcessively wornparts. Keep allguards,
shields,andsafetydevicesinplaceand in proper working order.
7. Do notchange theenginegovernorsettingsoroverspeedtheengine. Operatingtheengine
atexcessive speeds will increasethehazardof injury and canseverelydamageyour ma
chine.
8. Keephands,feet and clothing awayfromrotatingpartswhenoperatingmower.
9. Stop the blades and engine before leaving theoperatorspositionforanyreason.
10. Nevermake adjustments tothemower whileengineand/or blades arerunning.
11. After striking a foreign object, stop mowerandremovekey. Inspect the mowerforanydam
ageandrepairit immediately before continuing to mow.
12. Neveroperatethisequipmentin an enclosed or confinedareawithoutproper ventilation of
theengineexhaust.
13. Donotallowanypassengerstorideonthemower. Keepothersaway fromthemowerwhen
inoperation.

TRANSPORTATION:
Turnofffuelvalveand strapmowerto trailer.
MAINTENANCE:
1. Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to keep mower in safe operating condition.
2. Enginemaintenance should complywithengine manufactures specifications. Seetheen-
ginemanual for specifications.
3. Neverstorethe mowerwith gasinthe tankinsidea buildingwhere fumescanreach anopen
flameorspark.
4. Toreducetheriskoffire,keep the mower free of grass, leaves and excessive grease or oil.
5. Have yourmower inspected andserviced each yearby an authorized Yazoo/Kees dealer.
6. Useonlyauthentic Yazoo/Kees replacement partstoinsurethe safety and qualityofyour
mowerismaintained.
7. Safety decals should be replaced if they are missing or illegible. Decals can be purchased
fromyourYazoo/Kees dealer.
8. Thehydraulicsystemincludingallhosesand fittingsshouldbecheckedfrequentlyforwearor
leaks. Nevercheckfor leaks with your hands, use a piece of cardboard or wood.Hydraulic
oilunder pressure could beinjectedintoyour body and mustbesurgicallyremoved within a
fewhours.

NOTE:To achivethebest quality cut, thebladesshould be level withtheground or slighty
tippedforward.
EQUIPMENT SETUP AND ADJUSTMENTS
1. Uncratemower
2. Cuttheplasticwire ties holding the operator presenceleversdown.
3. Check tire pressure in all four tires. (22 PSI in all tires)
4. Check engineoil with dipstick.Addif neededper engine manufactures specifications.(See
enginemanual)
5. Checkhydraulicoil level. Should bean1.0” below the bottomofthefill tube.
6. Mountthedischarge chute to thefrontdeck using the fastenersprovidedon the deck.
CUTTING HEIGHT
1. Cuttingheightranges from 1 1/4” to 4 3/4” in1/4”increments.
2. Cuttingheightis changed by pushingthefoot pedal (Figure 1)downuntilthe transport lock
leversecurely latchesintotheslot onthetop surface oftheheight plate.
3. At this time, move the pin in the height plate to thedesiredcuttingpositionandreinsert
hairpin.
4. Afterthepin is placed in the desired hole, press down on thefoot pedaland remove the
transportlock leverfromthe slot.Gentlyremove pressurefromthe foot leverallowingthe lift
armto contact the pin in theheight plate.

MOTION CONTROL ADJUSTMENT
1. Thisadjustmentmust be made withthedrive wheels rotating. Raiserearof the unit and
blockit up so the wheelsarefreeto rotate. CAUTION: keep hands,feetandclothing away
fromrotating tires.
2. Withtheground speed lever inneutralorstop position, start theengine.
3. Thethumblatchesshouldbeunlocked.
4. Turntheadjustingnut theproperdirection untilthewheel stopsrotating.Thisisyourneutral
position, repeat on the other side. (See Figure 2.)
5. Aftertheneutralpositionisadjusted.Youwillneedtoreadjusttheshortlinkage.(SeeFigure2.)
6. Removethetwo hairpins, swingthelinkage outofthecontrol leverandthe thumb latch.See
Figure2.)
7. Turn the shortlinkagethe properdirectionin the swivel,sothat whenthethumb latchis
engagedthe wheel does notturn(or it is inneutral).
8. Aftertheseadjustments have been madeitwill be necessary toadjustthe reverse detent.
(Seereverse springdetentadjustment).

REVERSE SPRING DETENT ADJUSTMENT
1. Tocheck ifyourreverse spring detentadjustmentis set right.Makesure your groundspeed
leveris pulledback to theneutralposition. Releasethe thumblatchs(bothsides) andpullup
onthecontrolleversat thesame time. Thenreleasethelevers,itshouldreturntoneutral. Ifit
doesnot, the following adjustmtentsneedto be made.
2. Stop engine and remove key.
3. Groundspeedlever should beinthe neutralorstop postion andthethumb latchs unlocked.
4. Loosenthetwo1/4”bolts holding the reverse detent bracket. Slide the bracket up or down
untilit justtouchsthe “L”shapestop undertheconsole. Holdingthebracket againstthestop
retightenthe two 1/4” bolts. Repeat on other sideif needed. (See Figure 3. )

MOWER DECK LEVELING:
1. Position mower on a flat surface and stop engine.
2. Checkthetire pressure of all four tires. Inflation should be 22 psi.
3. Place two 2x4’s on edge under the blades from sidesideandlowerthedeck down onto the
2x4’s.
4. Place the height of the deck in the 3 1/2" cutting height position.
NOTE:make sure deck lift blocks are tightly bolted to the frame .
5. Adjustthefour upperchainbolts up untilthechains are tight.
6. Check chains forequaltension. If unequal, adjustupperchain bolt inslot.
7. Remove2 x 4’s and measure from the cutting edge of the blade to a flat surface tocheck
deckcutting height.

INTERLOCK SAFETY SYSTEM
Theinterlock safety systems’s functionistoprevent the engineformstarting if thebladeand/or
ground speed lever are engaged. It also causes engine shutdown if the operator falls from, or
attempts to leave the operator position while the blades or ground speed lever are engaged.
After the engine starts, the operator must hold either the left or right operator presence lever
downbeforeengaging theblades ormovingthegroundspeedlever.Ifneither operatorpresence
leverisheld the engine will stop. Check thefunctionofthesafetyelectrical system on a regular
basis.
1. Engine MUST killifblades are engaged without at least one O.P. lever held down.
2. Engine MUST kill if groundspeedleveris taken out of neutralwithoutholding down at least
oneoperator presence lever.
3. Engine MUSTnotstartunlessbladesareoffandgroundspeedleverisintheneutralposition.
4. DO NOT operatethemowerif the interlocksafetysystem allows operationorstarting in any
unsafecondition.
PUMP BELT
1. Beforeperformingadjustments on pumpbelt,turn the moweroffanddisconnect spark plug
wireor wires.
2. Checktensionon the belt. If it feelslooseadjustmentwillneed to be made.
3. Loosenthenut onthebottom of theidlerpulley.
4. Slidetheidler pulley againstthebelt,retighten the nutwhileapplying pressure totheidler
pulley.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
CONTROLS:
Bethoroughlyfamiliar with all controls their function and how to operate them before operating
themower.
1. Controllevers: Located on each sideofthe handle control directionofmovement. The left
levercontrols theflowof oil fromthelefthydropump totheleftwheelmotor.The rightlever
controlsthe flow ofoilfrom the righthydropump to therightwheel motor.
2. Groundspeed lever:Locatedin the centerofthe console.Controlsthe forward speedofthe
mower.Pushtheleverforwardifyouwanttogofaster,pullitbacktogoslowerorpullitallthe
way backtothe neutral or stop postion.
NOTE:Tobegin motion theoperatormustmovethegroundspeedleverforward before disen-
gagingthethumblatches.Afteryou release the thumb latches allow the control levers to move
forwardat the same time. The mower willmoveinastraight line in that direction.
Movementof theright controlleverforward willcausetherightwheel torotatein aforwarddirec-
tion. Movement of the left control lever forward will cause the left wheel to rotate in a forward
direction.To stop forwardtravelpull levers back intotheneutral position.
To turn right while moving in a forward direction pull the right control lever back towards the
neutralposition, this willslowthe right wheelandcause the mowertoturn in thatdirection.
To turn left while moving in forward direction pull theleftcontrol lever back towards the neutral
position,this will slowtheleftwheel and causethemowerto turn inthatdirection.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
STARTINGANDOPERATION:
1. Makingsurethe blades are disengaged,groundspeed lever in neutral,thethumb latches
locked,andthefuel valveon.
2. Adjustthrottleto choke (ifneeded)turn key tostartposition, until enginestarts.
3. Oncetheengineisrunning adjustthe throttle.
4. Holding down at least one of the operator presence levers, engage blades and set RPM to
maximum,but notchoked.NOTE: Besureall persons areclearof areabeforeengaging the
blades. To prolong spindle bearing and belt life engage and disengage blades at approxi-
mately1\2throttle.
5. Set the ground speed lever to the desired position.
6. Releasethethumb latches atthesametime.
3. Bladeengagementswitch:Locatedontheleftsideof theconsole. Toengagethebladespull
upon the switch. Pushdownonthe switch to disengagetheblades.
4. Chokeand throttlecontrol:Located on therightside oftheconsole. Pushthethrottle control
allthewayforwardforchoke.Usewhenstartingcoldengine donotrunchokewhenengineis
warm. Usethe throttletocontrol the engineRPM.
5. Trackingknob: Locatedon the leftback side of the console. If the mowerwillnottravelin a
straightline on a smoothsurface,turn the tracking knobtheproperdirection until itstraight-
ensout.
6. Keyswitch: Locatedonthe console. Thekeyswitch must beturnedon, bladesdisengaged,
andground speed leverinneutral before starting.
7. Fuelshut off valve:Locatedon the rightsideof the engineonthe frame. (Notshown.)
8. Pumpreleasevalves:Locatedatthebackleftcorneroftheleft pumpand frontright cornerof
rightpump. Usedtoreleasethe systemsounit may bemovedby handwhennotrunning.
(Notshown.)
NOTE: Only rotate about a 1/4to1/2ofa turn to release system.
9. Operatorpresencelevers:Locatedonthehandle.Oneorbothleversmustbepressedagainst
thehandle for themowerto remain running,whenthe blades areengagedorthe ground
speedlever is not in the neutralposition.
10. ThumbLatches: Locatedonthe handle,allowsthe thecontrollevers to beheld in neutral.
11. Hour Meter:Locatedon thecontrolpanel, showsthenumber ofhoursunit hasbeenrun.

MAINTENANCE
1. Engineoil level: Check dailywithengine cold andona flat surface.Removethe dipstick and
wipeclean.Reinsertthe dipstickalltheway,but donotscrewdown.Remove thedipstickand
checkoil level. If oil level is low addoil.Useenginemanufacturers specs for type of oil.
2. Pumpdrive belt: Stop engineandremovekey. Check thetensiononthebelt.
3. Mowerblades:Stopengineandremovekey.Inspectbladesandsharpenorreplaceasneeded.
Checkdaily ormoreoften ifneeded. The machinerequiresmore powerwithdull bladesand
givesa poor cut. If bladesgetbent,replace them. Blades shouldn’t haveanynotchesfrom
hittingobjects. Theairfoilontopofthebladeshouldbesufficienttoraisethegrassfor
cutting. Ifblades are in goodcondition,sharpen at an angleof22to 28 degreesabout2-1/2
inchesinfromthetips.Note: Aftersharpening, check blades for proper balance, if needed
correctbalance to preventexcessivevibration.
4. Safetyinterlock system: Check dailyandneveroperate the mowerifthis system is notfunc-
tioningproperly.
5. Hardware:Stop engineandremove key, thoroughlyinspectthe entiremachinefor anymiss-
ingorloose hardware. Check daily.
6. Aircleaner: Stop engineandremovekey. Removeplasticcoverand loosen wingnut onthe
aircleaner.Remove thefoampre-cleaner andwashor replaceifneeded.Inspectpaperfilter
andreplace if dirty. Checkevery25hours, dailyif in very dirty conditions. Fuel efficiency,
engineRPM, andavailablepower goesdown rapidlyifthe airfilteris dirty. Prolongedeffects
coulddamage the engine.
7. Engineoil:Change oil to manufacturers specifications. Stopengineandremovekey. Drain
oil when engine is warm. Thoroughly clean around cap before removing. Remove oil
drain cap from the right side of engine block and replace drain cap. Remove oil filter and
replace.Puta light coat of clean oil on the filter gasket before installing. Fill enginewithoil
usingmanufacturers specs, see Kawasaki owner’smanual. Startengine and idle slowlyto
allowtheoil to recoat the interior of theengineandtheninspect for leaks.
8. Hydraulicoil: Check daily.Thoroughly clean around cap. Removecap.Oil levelshouldbe
1”below the bottom of the filltube.Ifnot,add oil. NOTE: Use only 15w-50mobil1.
9. Tirepressure:Check every 25 to 50 hours. Pressure inallfourtiresshould be 22 PSI.
10.Belts:Checkevery25 hours. Stop engineandremovekey.Check the condition of all belts.
12.Lubrication(every25 hours): Caster tiresandfrontcaster pivots(Cleangreasezerkthor-
oughlybefore greasing)
13.Fuel filter:Replaceannually orasneeded.

14.Hydraulic filter and oil: Change every 500 hours or yearly. Stop engine and remove key.
Clean around the filter and the drain plug on the bottom side of the tank. Remove the
filter and allow any oil to drain from the filter head.Then replace with new filter. Use only
Yazoo/Kees p/n 102606, filter which has a bypass valve and the correct micron filter.
Remove the cap nut from the bottom of the tank and allow the tank to drain, reinstall the
cap nut. Fill tank with 15w - 50 mobil1, 1” below the fill tube and replace cap. Block up
the rear of unit until wheels will rotate freely and start engine at a slow idle, move the
control levers forward and run for several minutes. Stop engine and recheck oil level. If
wheels don’t respond an air lock has occured within the hydraulic system. Bleed air
from lines, or let stand overnight to allow the air to dissipate out of the oil. Retry re-
sponses & check the oil level.
Note: Serious damage to the pumps and wheel motors can occur if the system is run with an
air lock.

CUTTER HOUSING SPINDLE
ASSEMBLYS
Thecutterhousingassemblyisdesignedwitha
slipfitinnerraceandpulley. Thesolepurpose
of the setscrew in the pulley is to hold the
housing assembly together. The setscrew is
not ment to secure the pulley. The pulley is
securedbypinchingthepulleytotheinnerrace
of the bearings using the blade bolt and nut.
Tightenthesetscrewsafteryouhavepinched
theassemblytogetherwiththeblade boltand
nut.
Cutterhousingassemblysusesealedbearings
andaremaintancefree.

2. Yazoo/Keeswarrantsthatall newequipmentmanufacturedbyYazoo/Kees(Yazoo/KeesProd-
ucts),listedinparagraph9hereof, shall be free of defects in material and workmanship for the
termdescribed in paragraph4below. Componentparts,equipment, and accessoriesnotmanu-
facturedbyYazoo/Keesarenotwarrantedhereunder,but arewarrantedbythe originalmanu-
