GENERAL
This new Zenith Table Model Radio offerscompleteradio reception
at its best.It is designedto provideFrequencyModulation
(FM) on the
FM band,aswell asstandard
broadcastreception.
A number of important new featureswhich add to the tone quaiity and
performance have been perfected by Zenith engineersfor this receiver.
The receiver
circuitutilizesan entirely new typeof filtersystem
and
the
new
Selenium
Rectifier,
bothof whichhelpto provide increased
output
for better
rrcrformancc.
POWER SUPPTY
This rcccivermay be operated
on 50 to (r0cycle 117 r'olt Alternating
Currcnt (AC.) or from ll7 volt Direct Current (DC). NOTE: If receiver
does not operate within one minute when connectedto Direct Current,
the po*'er plug shouldbe ro'ersed
in thewall socket.T'hisprocedure
should
also be followed if a hum is apparent when the receiver is operated on
Alternating Currcnt.

Radio
broadcasttransmissions
are
of two types, Amplitude
Modulation
(Standard
Broadcast)and Frequency
Modulation(FM).

Frequency
Modulation provides a tremendous
improvement in the re-
rluction of interference
or static. In most installations,
particularly those
not too distantfrom the transmitting station,
staticof all types
is entirely
absen
t.
F'requency
Modulation allows the transmission
of not only a greatly in-
creasedtonal range, resulting in hearing musical
instruments
and sounds
which pre'iously have beenunheard,
but alsoa greatly increased
dynamic
range
that allows thc loudest
and softest
fassages
to be heardin their true
p
roportions.

conditions.

operating

and in averagelocations

stretched out in back of the receiver. Do not coil or bunch it up. Also try
the plug both ways in the power socket for the position which gives best
FM reception.

TUNING

OFF in the same manner as in standardbroadcast
operation. The Band

CARE THAN ON THE BROADCAST BAND. A hissinqsound may be
notedwhen

and will disappearasthe station
is tuned in. After a station is located,the
pointer should be moved backand forth over it until the point of quietest
reception and best tone quality is found. Correct tuning is indicated by
the disappearanceof background noise.
Although Frequency
Modulation
stationsare heard over great distances on rare occasions,do not expectto
tune in other than your Iocal stations.
The natureof FrequencyModulation
transmission
limits reception
to areas
within the approximatehorizon.
