Thank you for purchasing the ZX-40 action camera. Please read through the
User Manual before attempting to use the ZX-40.

5.0 GETTING STARTED
CAUTION:
Before using your action camera please ensure you read and understand the following
product and safety precautions.
• Do not use the ZX-40 in water without the waterproof case.
Do not use the ZX-40 with the waterproof case in water deeper than 30m.
• Always check the waterproof case seal is clean and free of debris prior to use in water.
• Do not attempt to open the ZX-40 or modify it in any way. If the ZX-40 has been tampered
with the warranty will be void. Maintenance and repairs should only be performed by
Zero-X.
• If you have wet hands, do not handle or charge the ZX-40 without it enclosed in the
waterproof case. Failure to do so may result in damage to the camera and/or injury.
• Only recharge the ZX-40 battery using the supplied USB cable.
• Do not use the ZX-40 in temperatures that exceed 55°C.
• Do not drop, crush, pierce, bend, deform, microwave, incinerate or shoot the ZX-40.

BATTERY WARNING
Always charge the ZX-40 using the provided USB Cable. If the ZX-40 is not charged as
directed in this manual, the battery may become damaged and fail.
• Never dismantle the ZX-40 or expose the internal battery cell.
• Do not dispose of the ZX-40 in fire.
• Please dispose of the ZX-40 mindfully and observe local regulations, especially in regards
to the safe disposal of the internal battery. Check your local recycling facility for more
information.
• Only use a certified 5V 1A USB charger to charge the ZX-40. Using non certified chargers
could potentially damage the ZX-40, or the ZX-40 battery and void the warranty.
• Do not let the battery charge overnight.
• If the ZX-40 seems to still need charging after three hours, temporarily remove it from
its charger as the battery may overheat. Let it cool down for 30 minutes and try charging
again.
5.1 CHARGING THE BATTERY
We recommend that you fully charge your ZX-40 before use. A full
charge will take approximately 2.5 hours using a 5V 1A Charger.

5.2 MICRO SD CARD COMPATIBILITY
The ZX-40 requires a Micro SD Card (not included) to save the files.
We recommend you use a maximum 128GB, UHS Class 3 or higher
Micro SD Card from a well known brand.
NOTE: There is only one correct way to insert the Micro SD Card into your ZX-40. It should
easily slide in. Do not force the card into the slot as it may damage the unit and the
card.
5.3 TOUCH SCREEN COMPONENTS
5.4 POWERING ON YOUR ZX-40
To power ON your ZX-40 follow the below steps:
1. Insert the battery into the unit.
2. PRESS and hold the ON/OFF BUTTON on the front of the unit
until the start up screen appears.

5.5 FORMAT YOUR MICRO SD CARD
Before you start using the ZX-40, we recommend that you format the
Micro SD card. You are able to format the Micro SD card using the ZX-
40 the instructions on how to do this is listed below:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. Once the ZX-40 is fully charged insert your Micro SD Card into the
correct slot (see the “4.0 COMPONENTS” ON PAGE 7).
3. PRESS the ON/OFF BUTTON on the front of the unit to turn ON
the ZX-40.
4. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
5. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
6. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
FORMAT SD CARD. PRESS on this option.
7. You will be prompted with the options FORMAT and CANCEL.
PRESS on the option that you require. Your SD card will now
format.
NOTE: Formatting the Micro SD card will permanently erase all data stored on the Micro
SD card. Be sure to back up all saved data prior to formatting.

6.0 ZX-40 CONTROLS AND FUNCTIONS
6.1 POWER ON/OFF BUTTON
The ON/OFF button is located at the front of the ZX-40 in the top left
corner. This is used to turn ON/OFF the unit.
The ON/OFF button is also used to change between the camera
modes, settings and also serves as the back button when you are in
the navigation settings.
6.2 SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON
The SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON is located on right side on top of
the ZX-40. This button is used to shoot images and also record videos
(start and stop videos).
The SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON is also used to access the navigation
SETTINGS MENUS, select menu items, and confirm your selection.
6.3 ACCESSING SYSTEM SETTINGS
You can access system settings when using any of the camera modes.
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.

6.4 SETTING THE TIME
To set the correct time on your ZX-40, follow the below steps once
your unit is turned ON. You can set the time and date in separate
settings.
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
TIME SETTING. PRESS on this option. The time settings screen
will pop up.
5. You will be prompted to fill in the current hour, minute and
seconds. Navigate by pressing either the hour, minute and second
on the screen. To change the numbers, PRESS the UP and DOWN
ARROWS on the screen until you reach the required number.
6. Once you have adjusted the time, confirm by pressing the TICK on
the screen in the top right corner. The time will now be updated.
NOTE: The option which is bold and black is the active selection. Non active options are
grey. The time is 24 hour and is set as HH:MM:SS.

6.5 SETTING THE TIME FORMAT
The ZX-40 has 3 time formats you can choose from, including how the
time is displayed. The options are YYYY/MM/DD, MM/DD/YYYY and
DD-MM-YYYY. The ZX-40 default setting is DD/MM/YYYY. To change
follow the below steps:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop-up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you
reach TIME FORMAT. PRESS on this option. The TIME FORMAT
SETTINGS screen will pop up.
5. PRESS on the option that you prefer. The TIME FORMAT will now
be updated.

6.6 SETTING THE DATE
To set the correct date on your ZX-40, follow the below steps. You set
the time and date in separate settings.
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
DATE SETTING. PRESS on this option. The DATE SETTING
screen will pop up.
5. You will be prompted to fill in the current year, month and day.
Navigate through by pressing on either year, month and day on
the screen. To change the numbers PRESS the UP and DOWN
ARROWS on the screen until you reach the required number.
6. Once you have adjusted the date, confirm this by pressing the
tick on the screen in the top right corner. The time will now be
updated.

6.7 AUTO POWER OFF
The auto power OFF function is designed to help extend the battery
life of the ZX-40. The ZX-40 will automatically POWER OFF after a
selected period of inactivity (3, 5, 10 MINUTES and OFF). The ZX-40
is factory defaulted to 3 MINUTES. To change this setting, follow the
below steps:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
AUTO POWER OFF. PRESS on this option. The AUTO POWER
OFF SETTINGS screen will pop up.
5. You can scroll through the options by swiping up and down on the
screen. PRESS on the option that you prefer. The setting will now
be updated.

6.8 WIFI
The ZX-40 comes with inbuilt WiFi, allowing you to easily access your
footage and photos through your smartphone. The ZX-40 default
setting is OFF. For more information, see “11.1 ZX-ACTION APP” ON
PAGE 46. To change this setting, follow the below steps:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
WIFI. You will notice a box on the right of screen with TURN OFF
next to it. PRESS on this box. The WiFi is now activate.
5. To exit out of WIFI MODE, PRESS the UP BUTTON.
NOTE: When WiFi is connected to your smartphone, you cannot use the functions on the
ZX-40 via the camera however you can manage functions via the app in this mode.
You can also use your smartphone as a wireless recording monitor when in WiFi
mode. You can control functions via the ZX-40 camera again once you have finished
using the functions of the ZX-ACTION APP and disconnect from your smartphone.

6.9 WIFI INFORMATION
If you need to find out the connection name and password of the ZX-40
WiFi ID, you can find this in the WiFi information section. To access this,
follow the below steps:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
WIFI INFORMATION. PRESS on this option to see the WiFi ID
information.
5. WiFi information will have WIFI ID and WIFI PASSWORD. The
WiFi Name will be ZX-40_XXXX ( XXXX will be unique to every
dash camera) Password: 123456789

6.10 RESET WIFI
If you need to reset ZX-40 WiFi connection, follow the below steps:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS the BUTTON on the bottom right of the back screen,
this will open up the SETTINGS MENU. A pop up with two locks
and arrows may appear. Swipe from left to right. You may need to
PRESS the BUTTON again.
3. PRESS the tab on the left side of the screen. The current
section tab will be highlighted blue.
4. Scroll down the list by swiping from bottom to top until you reach
RESET WIFI. PRESS on this option.
5. You will be prompted to confirm or cancel. PRESS on the option
you require. If you PRESS confirm, the WIFI will be reset.

6.11 USE FRONT SCREEN VIEW
The ZX-40 has two screens, a small front screen and a large back
screen. If you want a viewfinder perspective of your footage (i.e. your
cameras video or photo view) from the front of your action camera,
follow the below steps:
1. If you are currently in VIDEO MODE and RECORDING, you
will need to press the SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to end the
recording first.
2. PRESS and HOLD the DOWN BUTTON, the back screen will go
black, after approximately 2 seconds the front screen will activate.
You will now be able to view from this screen.
This front screen is not a touch screen. You can skip through the
shooting modes by pressing the ON/OFF BUTTON. PRESS the
SHOOT/RECORD BUTTON to capture images or videos. To exit this
mode, PRESS and HOLD the DOWN BUTTON again.
