WPA-1000 Overview
The WPA-1000 allows meeting participants to access and share one projector via wireless
connection to the WPA-1000, as shown in the figure below. IEEE 802.11b/g standards are
supported and wireless connections can be secured with WEP security.
This Quick Start Guide shows how to connect to the WPA-1000 with an Ethernet cable in
order to access it and first enable wireless security. This is recommended as the wireless
connection is not secure by default, so people in adjacent rooms may be able to view your
presentation. After you configure wireless security, everyone who knows the security
settings can connect wirelessly to the WPA-1000 and use the WPA-1000 to display their
presentation.
"See your User’s Guide on the CD in the package for more information on all
features.
To read the User’s Guide, insert the CD that came in the box into your CD-ROM drive. A
screen should pop up. Navigate to the User’s Guide from this screen. If a screen does not
pop up, open Windows Explorer (click My Computer), click on the CD-ROM drive (usually
drive D:) and navigate to it from there.

What Your Computer Should Have
• Intel Pentium III 800MHz or faster processor
• 256 MB RAM required; 512 MB, or more recommended
• 10 MB free hard-disk space
• Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later, Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, or
Windows Vista 32 bit
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0 (recommended); Firefox 1.5 or 2.0
• Ethernet adapter for direct Ethernet connection to the WPA-1000
• IEEE 802.11b/g wireless adapter for wireless connection to the WPA-1000
1 Make Hardware Connections
1Connect your computer to the LAN port using the red Ethernet cable that came with the
package or any other cross-over Ethernet cable.
2Connect the projector to the WPA-1000's VGA socket with the gray VGA cable that
came with the package.
3Use the power adapter from the package to connect your WPA-1000’s power socket to
a power source.
4Press the ON/OFF button in to turn your device on.
VI cannot start my WPA-1000
• Check the POWER is turned on.
• Check the WPA-1000 is connected to a power source and the power source is turned on.

• Restart your device.
5Look at the LEDs (lights) on the front panel of the WPA-1000.
•TheSTATUS LED is orange while the WPA-1000 is starting up, and green when it is ready.
•TheLAN LED is steady green when it has a successful connection to your computer; it
blinks while sending/receiving data.
VI cannot make a LAN connection to the WPA-1000 from my computer.
• Check the cables are connected properly and you are using the red Ethernet cable that
came in the package or an auto-crossover Ethernet cable.
• Check your computer is set to obtain IP addresses automatically. See the User’s Guide for
details on how to check this setting.

2 Note Information In The Standby Screen
The next screen appears on your projector screen when your WPA-1000 is successfully
connected to the projector. It contains important information that you should write down.
You will need this information later.
LABEL DESCRIPTION VALUE
LOGIN CODE You need to enter this number after you install the
projection sharing utility.
SSID This is the name that identifies the WPA-1000 in your
wireless network. Computers must use the same SSID,
channel and WEP as the WPA-1000 in order to connect
wirelessly to it. ZyXEL is the default SSID. It is highly
recommended you change this to a more specific name,
especially if you have other ZyXEL wireless devices in your
network.
Server IP This is the IP address of the WPA-1000. 192.168.1.10 is
the default IP address. If the WPA-1000 is connected to
your network and is set to receive an IP address
automatically, then it will show the IP address it received
here. This IP address is also displayed as the IP Address
in the Status screen.
This is the IP address you use to access the WPA-1000
web configurator.

VThe standby screen does not appear.
• Check the projector is turned on and working properly.
• Check your gray VGA cable is securely attached to the WPA-1000 and to the projector.
3 Configure Wireless Security on the WPA-1000
By default, the WPA-1000 has no wireless security. It is important to set up security on your
wireless network before meeting participants connect wirelessly.
1Open an Internet browser such as Internet Explorer on your computer.
2Type the Server IP address displayed in the standby screen in the web address field of
your Internet browser (the default IP address is 192.168.1.10). Press [ENTER].
3Click Administrator in the screen below.
Channel This is the wireless channel that the WPA-1000 is using.
WEP This shows WPA-1000 wireless network security settings.
Disable means you have san unsecured wireless network.

4Type the default administrator password, ‘1234’.
5Click Network.
6You just want to configure wireless security settings in this screen now. See the User’s
Guide for more information on these and other fields in this screen.

Configure these wireless settings.
"Computers must use the same SSID, channel and WEP as the WPA-1000
in order to connect wirelessly to it. Write down this information for meeting
participants to use when connecting to the WPA-1000.
7Click Apply. You are then prompted to restart the WPA-1000.
8Restart the WPA-1000 to save the changes.
"The Login Code in the standby screen changes each time the WPA-1000
is started.
LABEL DESCRIPTION
SSID Type a name to identify this WPA-1000 in your wireless network list.
ZyXEL is the default SSID. It is highly recommended you change this to a
more specific name, especially if you have other ZyXEL wireless devices in
your network.
Channel If there are other access points nearby, select the channel least in use.
Otherwise, leave it at the default setting
WEP Select 64bit (ASCII 5 chars) - this is the minimum wireless security with
just a five-character password. For stronger security, select one of the
other options from this list box.
Key For 64bit (ASCII 5 chars) WEP, type a key consisting of five letters (a - z,
A - Z) and numbers (0 -9). If you selected a stronger WEP, then make sure
to enter a key of the exact length and character type as indicated in the
WEP field.

4 Connect Wirelessly To The WPA-1000
1Follow this step if your wireless adapter is NOT already enabled on your computer.
Open Network Connections, right-click your wireless adapter and click Enable. The
following example screen shot is from a Windows XP computer.
2Your enabled wireless adapter icon appears in the bottom right of your computer
monitor. Right-click it and click View Available Wireless Networks. Select the SSID
name you gave the WPA-1000 and click Connect.
3You are prompted to enter a password. Enter the exact same password as the WEP
Key you configured on the WPA-1000 and click Connect.

4Click Unblock if you get a Windows Firewall warning screen.
5You should now be securely connected wirelessly to the WPA-1000.
6Your enabled wireless adapter icon in the bottom right of your computer monitor shows
that you are connected to the WPA-1000.
7Check the WLAN LED on your device. If it shows green the WPA-1000 has a
successful wireless connection. If it is green and blinks it is sending /receiving data. If it
is off, your device has no wireless connection.
VI cannot connect wirelessly to the WPA-1000.
• Scan the available wireless networks again with your wireless adapter management utility.
• Check you have set the exact same SSID, channel, encryption type (WEP),and Key
on your computer as the WPA-1000.

5 Install the WPA-1000 Utility
Each meeting participant who wants to display presentations on the projector via the WPA-
1000 must install the WPA-1000 utility. Follow the instructions below to download and install
the WPA-1000 utility on your computer.
1Open an Internet browser such as Internet Explorer on your computer.
2Type the Server IP address displayed in the standby screen in the web address field of
your Internet browser (the default IP address is 192.168.1.10). Press [ENTER].
3Click Download in the screen that displays.
4Click Download in the screen below to download the WPA-1000 utility file and save it
to a location on your computer.
5After it finishes downloading, double-click the file to begin the installation wizard.
Follow the directions to install the utility.

6After installation completes, a shortcut( ) appears on your desktop.
7Restart your computer if prompted.
6 Projecting Presentations via the WPA-1000
Follow the directions below to begin projecting.
1Double-click the shortcut ( ) on your desktop or click Start > Programs > WPA-1000
to start the WPA-1000 utility.
2The WPA-1000 utility searches for available projectors. A login screen appears.Type
the Login Code that appeared in the standby screen. Then press [ENTER].
3After a successful login, the projector displays the content from your computer monitor.
The PLAY LED blinks when your WPA-1000 is successfully projecting.
4Control your presentation using the WPA-1000 utility’s functions described below.
VThe projection is unclear.
1Click Refresh (Cin the previous figure) in the WPA-1000 utility.
BUTTON DESCRIPTION
A (Play) Use this button to search for available projectors and to project content
from your computer after one has been selected.
B (Stop) Use this button to stop projection.
C (Refresh) Use this button to refresh the screen.
D (Login Code) This is the login code being used for this projection session.
E (Menus) Click here to access a range of menus. See the User’s guide for details.
F (Minimize) Use this button to minimize this utility to the system tray at the bottom right
of your screen.
G (Exit) Use this button to close and exit the utility.

2Check the resolution settings on your computer graphics settings. The projection is best
viewed at 1024 * 768.
VI cannot use the WPA-1000 utility to project my presentation.
1Uninstall the WPA-1000 utility and reinstall it.
2Check your operating system (OS). The WPA-1000 utility is compatible with Microsoft
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later, Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, or Windows
Vista 32 bit.
