3DTV STEREODRIVER X User manual

3DTV Corp STEREODRIVER Model X
The Model X is meant to be used with wired LCD shutter glasses and
50hz (PAL, SECAM) or 60hz (NTSC) 3D field sequential (i.e., right/left
alternating) video and tube type (CRT) TV‘s. For higher frequency TV
or PC see our other products.
Connect a standard RCA audio or video cord from the composite VIDEO
OUT (a yellow RCA jack) of your VCR, VCD or DVD player, STB (set top
box--i.e., cable or satellite) to the provided RCA splitter and plug the
RCA from your TV video in into the RCA splitter. Plug the splitter into
the yellow RCA jack in the back of the Model X.
If using wired glasses, plug the stereo jack of the wired LCD shutter
glasses into the mini jack on the back of the Model. Up to 6 wired
glasses can be plugged in using standard stereo headphone splitter
plugs.
First time the unit is used you need to connect the 9V battery by
removing the battery cover in the back, connecting both leads, and
replacing the cover.
Turn on the power by pressing the left button(red light) and turn off
when finished viewing 3D. When you play the 3D program the red
light on the right side should be a steady red—if it blinks you must
check all connections. If the image is 3D (one image in each eye) but
looks strange, press the right side MODE button to reverse the eyes.
If you are using wired glasses and wish to sit further from the TV, you
may use a standard stereo headphone extension cord between the
StereoDriver and the glasses or RCA extension cords to the video
source and TV.
For European User’s
If there is no composite video out from your video source, but only a
Euro AV (SCART) connector then use a SCART to RCA breakout

cable. In either case, you may connect the other RCA on the
StereoDriver to the video in on your TV or connect the round RF cable
from the VCR, VCD, DVD or STB to the TV. Some older equipment
may not have enough power via the SCART cable, so if the light on the
StereoDriver is dim or out, give it power directly from any DC adapter
which makes it’s green LED go on.
IF THE GLASSES PERFORM ERRATICALLY, THE MOST PROBABLE CAUSE IS
FAILURE TO CONNECT VIDEO TO THE STEREODRIVER. Make sure the
connectors are plugged in all the way, the battery is connected and has
approx. 9Volts and the red LED power is on. If they image looks
strange press the polarity (mode) button to reverse the eyes. If the
red LED on the right is flickering you are not getting good video into the
unit.
ELIMINATE FLICKER BY REDUCING ROOM LIGHT AND TURNING DOWN
THE BRIGHTNESS OF YOUR TV. ADJUST THE COLOR, BLACK LEVEL,
AND SHARPNESS WHILE VIEWING THE 3D PICTURE WITH THE GLASSES.
It is important to keep the glasses free of fingerprints and to avoid rear
light which reflects off the inside of the glasses.
IT CANNOT BE TOO STRONGLY EMPHASIZED THAT OPTIMAL 3D WILL
ONLY BE SEEN IF YOU CAREFULLY ADJUST THE BRIGHTNESS, BLACK
LEVEL, COLOR LEVEL, TINT, AND SHARPNESS WHILE OBSERVING.
WITH MANY TV SETS THIS WILL REQUIRE SWITCHING OFF THE
AUTOMATIC CONTROLS. WITH COMPUTERS YOU CAN ADJUST YOUR
MONITOR AND/OR VIDEO CARD OR THE CONTROLS IN THE SOFTWARE.
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO KEEP THE GLASSES CLEAN - A SINGLE FINGERPRINT
WHJL RUIN THE 3D! YOUR ABILITY TO VIEW 3D WILL IMPROVE WITH
PRACTICE.

Adapting Your Visual System To LCD Shuttering Glasses
When using shutter glasses with computer or video systems with a
frequency of less than 120hz there will be some flicker which should be
minimized or eliminated by reducing room illumination and adjusting
the TV or monitor brightness with the glasses on and the program
running. Individual sensitivity to flicker varies widely. If you have
difficulty adjusting to 3D viewing, reduce your viewing time per
session. As with all our systems, the visual system can adjust with time
and you should be able to overcome any fatigue by building up your
“stereoscopic muscles” slowly.
It is important to adjust the stereo parameters such as the parallax
(horizontal image disparity) and distance to the screen in each program
for your own comfort. Use the setup menu to adjust what is variously
called “depth”, “3D Effect” “screen size”, “viewing distance”, etc. when
using any stereo software. You will probably need to change this as you
become accustomed to stereo and for each program. When watching
3D, you can change your distance from the screen to improve viewing;
the further away you are the easier it is to view. See our article “How
to Improve Image Quality in 3D Viewing”.
Other Modifications
If you want a softer contact with your forehead purchase adhesive

backed foam padding or weatherstripping at your local hardware,
sporting goods or hobby shop. lf the glasses rest too heavily on your
nose, purchase some of the little nosepads used for eyeglasses. lf they
are not tight enough on your head, add adhesive backed foam strips or
several nose pads inside the temples.
Note - Lenses must be kept clean, a fingerprint will ruin 3D!
