Overview of Operation
The AARC-EVAC™ ARX43E36D Wireless Linked Emergency Alert & S.O.S. Zones Receiver Message
Player Unit outputs standard Evacuation & Alert sirens, an Evacuation Drill message plus up to 7 unique
“S.O.S.” assistance zoned messages, when triggered by a remote wireless linked Alert Panel. This
master unit also has an integrated set of push button switches that can also be used to trigger the
alarms, plus an evacuation drill message.
The AARC-EVAC™ ARX43E38D Wireless Linked Emergency Alert, Lockdown & S.O.S. Zones Receiver
Message Player Unit outputs standard Evacuation & Alert sirens, a Lockdown message plus up to 6
unique “S.O.S.” assistance zoned messages, when triggered by a remote wireless linked Alert Panel.
This master unit also has an integrated set of push button switches that can also be used to trigger the
alarms, plus the lockdown and an evacuation drill message.
The units also have a cancel button which is used to cancel all siren and audio messages plus any visual
alert beacons deployed in the system. The output of these 1U high Rack Mounted units is designed to
feed the audio alert sirens and messages to the input of a PA amplier.
The systems can also incorporate AARC-EVAC™ Standalone Wireless Linked Emergency Alert Siren/
Message Player Units to cover areas not covered by the PA system and AARC-EVAC™ Standalone
Wireless Linked Visual Alert Beacon Units where required in noisy environments or to alert the hearing
impaired and persons wearing hearing protection devices .
The integrated set of push button switches on the front of the master units also transmit wireless alert
signals to trigger and to cancel the alarms on any AARC-EVAC™ Standalone units in the system.

• Unit is triggered by wireless signals received from an
ATX43E series 4 or 5 Channel handheld or wall mounted
AARC-EVAC transmitter Alert Panel.
• The Unit can also be triggered by a wireless signal
received from an ATC43E60 AARC-EVAC wireless signal
repeater Unit.
• Standard emergency alert sirens and messages
include “Alert”, “Evacuation”, “Lockdown” (ARX43E38D
only), “Evacuation Drill”, and up to 6 or 7 unique S.O.S.
assistance zoned duress messages:
○“Alert” activation outputs the Australian Standard
alert tone (complying to AS1670.4), this will sound
continuously or for 30 Seconds up to 240 seconds
(Pre-settable), then if not cancelled will automatically
trigger the “Evacuation” Alert
○“Evacuation” activation outputs the Australian Standard
evacuation tone (complying to AS1670.4) To comply
with Australian Standards for evacuation tones, a
custom message may be played after every third cycle
providing evacuation instructions to occupants. Voice
message could be something like “please evacuate the
building by the closest exit”
○“Lockdown” activation outputs an audio custom
message to suit your application, chimes, tones, music
track or voice message or any combination thereof
(ARX43E38D only)
○“Evacuation Drill” activation outputs a custom
programmed “Evacuation Drill Warning” message
followed by the standard “Evacuation Alarm”
○Up to 6 unique “SOS” assistance zone duress messages
can also be triggered. e.g. “Security please report to
the front ofce” or ”Management please report to the
lounge bar” or “Assistance required in room 23” etc.
• Multiple Alert Panel transmitters can be used within the
same ”S.O.S.” assistance zone, if required
• A wireless “Cancel” activation or pressing the front panel
“Cancel” button will stop any active alert and reset the system
• When a “Lockdown” is triggered, in addition to the
Lockdown message being played, a switched output Aux
Out 2 is provided on the rear panel which can be factory
congured to activate a Lockdown device (e.g. Door
Locking Solenoid). This is a latching output and will remain
active until a system “Cancel” signal is received.

• It is recommended that a suitable UPS (Uninterruptable
Power Supply) be used in conjunction with this unit and the
PA Amplier.

Emergency Tones & Messages – Alert, Evacuation, (Lockdown) & up to 6 or 7 S.O.S.
The Alert and evacuation tones conform to Australian Standards AS1670.4 and are used to notify
building occupants of an emergency situation.
Alert: The Alert tone is activated by radio link from AARC-EVAC Transmitter or ALERT button on the
front of the unit. The Alert tone comes with a change over option which forces the unit to switch from
Alert to the Evacuation tone after a prescribed time. Use the BCD switch to adjust this time or switch
off completely (see Figure 1).
Evacuation: The Evacuation tone is activated by radio link from AARC-EVAC Transmitter or EVAC
button on the front of the unit.
Evacuation voice message: A message (repeated twice) can be inserted every three evacuation
cycles as per the Australian Standards. Voice message could be something like “please evacuate the
building by the closest exit”. To install an Evacuation message on the unit follow the Step by step guide
to put an MP3 into Trigger1 with Windows XP installed PC but replace Trigger1 with Voice i.e. put the
message into the Voice folder on the SD card and delete any other MP3 le located in the voice folder.
Lock Down (ARX43E38D only): The Lock Down tone is activated by radio link from AARC-EVAC
Transmitter or LOCK DOWN button on the front of the unit.
S.O.S: S.O.S. Duress messages are activated by radio link from up to 6 or 7 unique zones. A message
is played calling for assistance to the zone that originated the message. On the ARX43E36D unit there
is an S.O.S. button which will call for assistance to the zone where the unit is located.
Priority: The Emergency tones have priority over other triggers and if activated will stop any other
MP3 and activate the selected emergency tone. Evacuation also has priority over Alert.
Putting MP3’s on to the player
Remove screws on underside of unit (gure 1). Flip unit so that it is orientated right-way-up and lift
lid panel off the unit. You will need to remove power from the unit then remove the SD card from the
unit as pictured below. To remove the SD card push the card in and it will eject itself. The SD card
will then need to be connected to a PC (Windows XP or Vista recommended). You will need a PC
equipped with a SD card reader to do this (not supplied).

How to put an MP3 into Trigger1 with a Windows PC
Step 1: Make sure the PC is on and card reader connected and correctly
installed. Then insert the SD card into the reader.
Step 2: Go to “My Computer” (Figure 2) and open the SD card which is
usually marked “Removable disk”. In this case it is named “Removable disk
(G)”. You should get a window that looks like Figure 3.
IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: The “alert” and “evac” folders
and the MP3 files inside these folders should not be deleted or
renamed in any way, as this will cause the unit to stop responding.
Step 3: Open folder named “trig1”, you should get a window that looks like
Figure 4.
Step 4: You should see an MP3 le named XXXXXX.MP3 if you have never
changed the trigger1 MP3 le then it will be named Trigger1.MP3. This MP3
le needs to be deleted and replaced by the MP3 le you want to play when
you activate trigger1.
For ARX43E36D, Triggers 1–7: The MP3 le name is not important only
that there is one MP3 le in the trig1 folder, this MP3 le will be some form
of SOS Assist message applicable to Zone 1 of your installation.
Repeat this for all used Triggers/Zones e.g. Trig2 would have Zone 2
message etc. up to trig 7 for Zone 7 (see Figure 3a). Make sure you delete
the old MP3 les when replacing them! The folders should look now
something like Figure 5a.
For ARX43E38D, Triggers 1–7: The MP3 le name again is not important
only that there is one MP3 le in the trig1 folder, this MP3 le will be a
“Lockdown” message applicable to your installation. The Trig2 Folder
then will get the Zone 1: SOS Assist message and be repeated for all other
used SOS zones. Trig3 Folder will get Zone 2: SOS Assist message etc.
until all SOS Assist Zones allocated to Triggers up to trig7 which would
then get SOS message for Zone 6 (see gure 3b). Make sure you delete
the old MP3 les when replacing them! The folders again should look now
something like Figure 5a.
For both ARX43E36D & ARX43E38D:
Trigger 8: This is RESERVED for the EVAC Drill Message/Tones. The
MP3 les to make this will need to be constructed. It may include a voice
message announcing “This is a drill…This is a drill”, then “3 x Evacuation
tones” followed by your “Voice Evacuation Message” and then “3 x
Evacuation tones” This sequence will need to be repeated a number of
times to suit your situation. The Evacuation Tones can be copied from the
MP3 le in the “evac” folder on the SD card.
Note: When the MP3 file you build finishes playing it will stop
automatically, this is the reason you will need to repeat the
message a number of times, when you build the file.
Voice Folder: This the where your particular “Voice Evacuation Message”
is saved. When an EVAC message is triggered, “Standard Evacuation
Tones”, will be played followed by your “Voice Evacuation Message”,
then “Standard Evacuation Tones”. This sequence will continue until the
Evacuation is cancelled.
Note: It is VERY IMPORTANT that the MP3 file in this folder is kept
as “voice.mp3”

Note: The new MP3 files cannot be “Read Only”; to check this right click on the MP3 file and scroll down and select
Properties, you will get a window that looks like Figure 5b. Make sure the “Read Only” box has no tick in it.
Step 5: Now the new MP3 les are installed on the card, the card can be removed from the PC following Windows safe card removal
procedures.
Step 6: Make sure the RACK unit it is to be installed in is power OFF, insert the SD card into the SD Card Holder slot on the circuit
board. See Figure 1; it will click when fully inserted. Unit is now ready to be re-assembled reversing dis-assembly procedure and tested.
IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: The “alert” and “evac” folders and the MP3 files inside these folders should not be deleted
or renamed in any way, as this will cause the unit to stop responding.

Maintenance
The buttons on the unit should be tested regularly to make
sure they are operational. This procedure should be added to
your company or organisation’s maintenance schedule.
Installation
This rack mount unit ts into a standard 19-inch rack but can also be used as a free-standing unit.
1 Antenna: SMA plug input from AARC-EVAC Radio Antenna.
2 Line Out: L + R Line Output RCA Sockets. Connect to Input
on PA System.
3 Power: 12VDC 1A. Input from 12VDC plugpack power
supply (as supplied).
4 Aux Out 1: Switched output: N.O, C, N.C contacts. Output
switches state when any alert message is active.

5 Evac Out: Switched output: N.O, C, N.C contacts. Output
switches state when EVAC audio is active.
6 Aux Out 2: Factory congurable output N.O, C, N.C
contacts. Can be assigned to switch on any channel, when
that channel is active.
7 Aux In: R.I.B. (Reference, Input, Bias) factory congurable
input, can be passive (dry contact) or active trigger. Can be
assigned to switch any channel.
