Quick Start Guide
1. Turning On the Accent for the first time:
a. Press and hold the On/Off button located on the lower left side of the device. The
screen will appear in about 45 seconds.
b. Wait for the NuVoice software to load. This will take about 45 seconds.
c. Review the NuVoice Software Agreement and select “I Agree.”
d. Next the Exploration Wizard will load.
2. Once the Exploration Wizard loads check the battery status next to the Battery icon in
the upper right portion of the screen. If the device is not fully charged, locate the charging port
and connect to the battery charger.
Note: The device can be used while charging.
3. Exploration Wizard
a. Use the Wizard for Target Practice and Picture Test exercises or
b. Select one of the vocabulary options.
c. If the desired vocabulary does not appear on the Wizard follow the Quick Start steps for
changing or replacing vocabularies.
d. To return to the Wizard from a vocabulary screen follow the Quick Start steps for
changing vocabularies.
4. Changing vocabulary
a. Select the Tool icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
b. Select the Toolbox icon from the menu that appears on the left side of the screen.
•Hint: Tapping the Home icon twice will open the Toolbox
c. Open the User Area Menu.
d. Select Switch User Area.
e. Select the desired vocabulary and wait for it to load.
•Note: If the desired vocabulary is not available in the Switch User Area, refer to
the instructions for replacing vocabularies.
f. Tap OK twice to return to vocabulary screen.

5. Replacing vocabulary
a. Repeats steps 4a, 4b and 4c above.
b. Select Replace User Area and select a vocabulary to replace.
c. Find the desired vocabulary from the Vocabulary Categories.
d. Choose the appropriate vocabulary.
e. Select “Yes” in the yellow message box to continue.
f. On the next screen type “replace” and tap OK.
g. Select the Switch User Area and select the new vocabulary.
h. Tap OK twice to return to the vocabulary screen.
6. Turning Off the device
a. Select the Tool icon and then the Toolbox icon from the pop-up menu to open
the Toolbox.
b. Select the Maint Menu.
c. Select Windows Power Management and then the Shutdown Windows button.
d. Select “Yes” in the yellow message box to continue.
e. If the device is integrated (unlocked to run Windows applications), the device can be
turned off by:
i. Selecting the Tool icon .
ii. Selecting the Hide/Show Nuv button from the pop-up menu.
iii. Selecting the Windows icon in the upper left corner of the display then choosing
Shutdown from the pop-up menu.
Additional Tips
1. The Toolbox is where changes to the device can be made. The Toolbox can be accessed by:
a. Using the Tool icon and Toolbox icon from the pop-up menu or
b. Tapping the Home icon twice.
2. Volume Control
a. Access the Toolbox.
b. Speaker Volume Up or Down buttons on the lower right side of the screen to adjust the
volume.
c. Select OK to return to the vocabulary screen.

3. Change Voice
a. Access Toolbox.
b. Select the Speech Menu.
c. Select the desired voice and other speech settings.
d. Use the Test Speech button to hear the selected settings.
e. Select OK twice to return to the vocabulary screen.
4. Power management and battery conservation settings
a. Conserve battery life by adjusting some or all of the following settings; Auto Sleep, Auto
Backlight Dim and Auto Backlight Off.
Note: Time settings can be set from 1 to 30 minutes. The lower the time setting
the quicker the device will activate the given feature; “Off” is not a
recommended setting.
b. To adjust settings:
i. Access the Toolbox.
ii. Select Maint Menu and then Windows Power Management
iii. Be sure the I/O Function is set to Sleep
iv. Then set Auto Backlight Dim, Auto Backlight Off and Auto Sleep to the desired
settings.
v. Select OK three times to return to vocabulary screen.
Note: To wake the device from Sleep Mode, press and release the On/Off
button. The display will activate in 4 to 5 seconds.
Cleaning the Device
To clean the case, turn the device Off. Wipe the case with a moist, lint-free cloth. Dry the case
thoroughly before turning it On.
To clean the display, turn the device Off. Use a household window cleaner (e.g., Windex®) or a cleaner
designated for a computer or flat screen TV or use rubbing alcohol. Lightly spray the screen. Dry
thoroughly and polish with a lint-free cloth.
To disinfect the case: Use a solution of vinegar and water (1/4 cup vinegar to 1 cup water). Wipe the
case (not the display) with a cloth dampened in this mixture then let the case air dry. DO NOT USE
VINEGAR OR A VINEGAR/WATER SOLUTION ON THE DISPLAY!
