TheACCU‑CHEKSoftclixPluslancingdeviceusesACCU‑CHEKSoftclix
lancetstoobtainadropofbloodfromthengertip.Thepenetration
depthcanbeselectedtomatchanytypeofskin.
Thiscapisforngertiptestingonly.
The clear cap is for testing on sites other than
thengertip.Donotusetheclearcapforngertip
testing.
Note: The ACCU‑CHEK Softclix Plus cap was not designed to be
replaced after each use. The ACCU‑CHEK Softclix Plus lancing
device is intended for use by a single person and is not suitable
for testing multiple persons due to the risk of infections.
Selecting the Depth
ThedepthontheACCU‑CHEKSoftclixPluslancingdevicemaybe
adjustedbyturningtheComfortDial.Thecurrentdepthselectionis
showninthecenterofthedepthindicatorwindow.
Youcanndthedepthindicatorwindowasasemi‑circularcutouton
theejector.
TheACCU‑CHEKSoftclixPluslancingdeviceoffers11depthsettings.
Thesettingsareshowninthedepthindicatorwindowbythenumbers
1to5withadditionallevelsmarkedwithdotstoenableyouto
preciselyadjusttoyourindividualskintype.Thehigherthenumber
visibleintheComfortDial,thegreaterthedepthsetting.
Note:IfyouareusingtheACCU‑CHEKSoftclixPluslancingdevicefor
thersttime,startbyselecting1or2toseeiftheamountofblood
obtainedisenoughtoperformatest.Ifyourskiniscallousedorthick,
youmayneedtotryahighersetting.

Performing a Fingerstick

pullontherecessedarea.Ifthereis
alreadyalancetinthedevice,removeitby
holdingthelancingdevicesothatthe
lancetpointsdownwardandpressingthe
plunger.Refertothesectioncalled
“RemovingtheLancet”.
FirmlyinsertanewACCU‑CHEKSoftclixlancetinthelancetholder2.
untilitsnapsintoplace.
Twist the protective cap on the3.
lancetseveraltimesandpullgentlyto
removeit.
Snaponthecoloredcapafterlining4.
upthenotches.Thecapsnaps
easilyintoplace.
Selectthedesireddepthsettingasinstructedinthesection5.

thelancingdeviceallthewaydownuntilitstops,likeapen.
Thelancingdeviceisnowreadyforuse.
Now,washyourhandsanddrythemthoroughly.Alsowarmthe6.

makesureyourngeriscompletelydrybeforecontinuing.
Graspyourngerneartheareatobeprickedandgentlymassage7.
forthreeseconds.
Holdthelancingdevicermlyagainstthe8.
sideofyourngertip,thenpressand
releasetheplunger.Gentlysqueezeyour
ngertiptogetasmalldropofblood.
Thebestplacetotestonthengertipisthe
side,becauseithasthebestbloodsupply,yet
allowsfortheleastpainfulngerstick.Anyngermaybeusedfora
ngerstick.
Touchandholdtheblooddroptotheblacknotchontheendof9.

Getting Blood from a Site Other Than Your Fingertip
Capillarybloodforbloodsugartestingcanbeobtained,notonlyfrom
thengertips,butalsofromothersites(thepalm,theforearm,the
upperarm,thecalforthethigh),whichisreferredtoasAlternative
SiteTesting(AST).Werecommendpalmasthenon‑ngertiptestsite.
Use the clear ACCU‑CHEK Softclix Plus AST cap together with the
ACCU‑CHEKSoftclixPluslancingdevicetocollectbloodfromnon‑
ngertiptestsites.

glucosetonon‑ngertipsiteswhencomparedtongertip.Therefore,

ASTresults.Thelengthofdelay(lagtime),isstronglyimpactedby
lifestyle,foodseaten,oranyothereventhavingimpactonblood
glucoselevels.Itisimportantthatpeopleconsideringnon‑ngertip
testingunderstandthefollowing:
Talktoyourdoctorifyouareconsideringtestingonsitesother
thanyourngertip.
ASTtestingisnotrecommendedduringperiodsofrapid
decreasesorincreasesinbloodglucoselevels.
ASTtestingisnotrecommendedforpeoplewithahistoryof
recurrenthypoglycemia,whosuspecttheirbloodglucoseis
extremelylow,orwhoareunawareofhypoglycemicevents.
Never ignoresymptomsofhighorlowbloodsugar.
Donotchangeyourtreatmentbasedononeresult.
IftheASTreadingdoesnotmatchhowyoufeel,performa
ngertiptesttoconrmyourresults.Ifyourbloodglucosestill

Don’t be afraid to apply strong pressure to the area with the lancing
device to get a good blood drop.

Cleantheoutsideofyourlancingdeviceregularlyandalwaysif
anybloodgetsonitwith70%isopropyl(rubbing)alcoholtokeep
itingoodworkingcondition.Inaddition,thoroughlywipethe
insideofthecapusingacottonbudlightlymoistenedwiththe70
%isopropyl(rubbing)alcohol.Aftercleaning,allowthelancing
devicetimetodrythoroughly.Neverdipthelancingdeviceorthe
caps(coloredcapandclearASTcap)incleaningliquid.Doingso
maydamagetheinternalpartsofthelancingdevicesoaffecting
itsoperation.
Donotdipthelancingdeviceinliquid.
