How to Troubleshoot Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi) on the Qwest® Standard Modem:
Actiontec® GT701-WG
Internet Service Provider (ISP):

Use this document if:
You want to change one or more of the following settings to troubleshoot your Qwest Standard
Modem: Actiontec GT701-WG for wireless issues:
1. Reset your modem to factory defaults (Step 1)
2. Reprogram your modem (Step 7)
3. Change your SSID or Network Name (Step 16)
4. Change your Security Key (Step 18)
5. Change the Wireless Channel (Step 21)
This document assumes:
That you have your PPP username and password that was provided by your Internet
Service Provider (ISP). Click here to look up your ISP’s contact information.
Your computer is directly connected to the modem using an Ethernet cable.
The Qwest Standard Modem: Actiontec GT701-WG is powered on.

1. Open a web browser, type 192.168.0.1, and press enter.
2. If you have the blue and white screen on the left as shown below, proceed to step 3. If you
have the black and white screen to the right, click here to see those directions.
3. Select Utilities from the tabs.

4. Select Restore Default Settings.
5. Select Restore Default Settings again.
6. The ‘Thank You’screen will appear. Proceed to the next step.

7. These are the steps for reprogramming your modem. Select the Advanced Setup tab.
8. Select WAN IP Address.

9. When asked if you want to proceed, select Yes.
10. Select PPPoE.
11. Place a checkmark next to ‘PPP Auto Connect’if it is not populated

12. Enter the PPP username and password that was provided to you by your Internet Service
Provider (ISP).
13. Complete the next steps according to your ISP’s instructions, then select Apply. Listed
below are the most common settings.
14. Once the settings have been applied, select the Wireless Setup tab.
15. Select On.
16. ‘ACTIONTEC’is how other wireless devices will see this wireless connection; you can
change it, or leave it.

17. Select 128-BIT WEP.
18. Enter 26 digits. A-F or any number from 0-9
19. At the bottom of the page you will see a summary or the settings you selected. Review then
and select Apply.
20. The ‘Thank You’screen will appear. Proceed to the next step.
21. Next, we are going to change the wireless channel. Select Wireless Setup.

22. Select Channel.
23. The primary channels are 1, 6, and 11. Once you have selected a channel, select Apply.
Wireless equipment, like 2.4GHz cordless phones, wireless security cameras, and wireless
baby monitors can interfere with your wireless internet.

24. The ‘Thank You’screen will appear. You can now attempt to connect to the wireless signal
being transmitted by your Actiontec GT701-WG wireless modem.
