Product Warranty (3 years)
Advantech warrants the original purchaser that its products will be free from defects
in materials and workmanship for two years from the date of purchase.
This warranty does not apply to any products that have been repaired or altered by
persons other than repair personnel authorized by Advantech, or products that have
been subject to misuse, abuse, accident, or improper installation. Advantech
assumes no liability under the terms of this warranty as a consequence of such
events.
Because of Advantech’s high quality-control standards and rigorous testing, most
customers never need to use our repair service. If an Advantech product is defective,
it will be repaired or replaced at no charge during the warranty period. For out-of-war-
ranty repairs, customers are billed according to the cost of replacement materials,
service time, and freight. Please consult your dealer for more details.
If you believe your product to be defective, follow the steps outline below.
1. Collect all information about the problem encountered. (For example, CPU
speed, Advantech products used, other hardware and software used, etc.) Note
anything abnormal and list any onscreen messages encountered when the
problem occurs.
2. Call your dealer and describe the problem. Please have your manual, product,
and any relevant information readily available.
3. If your product is diagnosed as defective, obtain an RMA (return merchandize
authorization) number from your dealer. This allows us to process your return
more quickly.
4. Carefully pack the defective product, a completed Repair and Replacement
Order Card and proof of purchase date (such as a photocopy of your sales
receipt) in a shippable container. Products returned without a proof of purchase
date are not eligible for warranty service.
5. Write the RMA number clearly on the outside of the package and ship the pack-
age prepaid to your dealer.

Declaration of Conformity
CE
This product has passed the CE test for environmental specifications when shielded
cables are used for external wiring. We recommend the use of shielded cables. This
type of cable is available from Advantech. Please contact your local supplier for
ordering information.
CE
This product has passed the CE test for environmental specifications. Test conditions
for passing included the equipment being operated within an industrial enclosure. To
protect the product from damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and electro-
magnetic interference (EMI) leakage, we strongly recommend using CE-compliant
industrial enclosure products.
FCC Class A
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A dig-
ital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC regulations. These limits are designed to
provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is
operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can
radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the
instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Opera-
tion of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference. In
such cases, users are required to correct the interference at their own expense.

This equipment has passed the FM certification. According to the National Fire Pro-
tection Association, work sites are classified into different classes, divisions, and
groups, according to hazard considerations. This equipment complies with the speci-
fications of Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D indoor hazards.

Safety Precautions
Read the following instructions carefully before installing, operating, or transporting
the ASR-5300I RAID system and JBODs.
Installation and Operation
Install the rack cabinet and associated equipment at a site where the ambient
temperature (special room cooling equipment may be required) remains below
–35 °C ~ if the system features a BBU (all dual-controller systems are
equipped with a BBU by default)
–40 °C ~ if the system does not have a BBU
Install the power source socket outlet near the enclosure for ease of access and
ground the rack cabinet.
Secure airflow clearance inside and around the rack cabinet.
–Secure an 18 to 20 cm clearance on the rear side.
–Do not cover the enclosure openings.
–Route the cables inside the rack cabinet.
–Do not leave drive bays empty to avoid reducing airflow efficiency.
Secure each enclosure module using its retaining screws.
Place power cords and other cables away from foot traffic. Do not place items
on top of power cords or resting against data cables.
Install all modules in the enclosure before powering on systems.
Ensure that the correct power range is being used before powering on.
Do not remove covers or replaceable modules if not faulty.
Should the system remain idle for a long period of time, disconnect the system
from the power mains to avoid transient overvoltage.
For power source redundancy, ensure that the two PSUs are plugged into two
different power sources (i.e., different circuit breakers).
Service and Maintenance
Keep the faulty module in place until a replacement unit is sourced; an empty
module greatly affects the airflow efficiency within the enclosure.
During service operation, place the enclosure on a soft and clean surface to pre-
vent exterior damage. Do not place tools or other items on the enclosure.
When transporting the enclosure, repackage all disk drives separately in the
original packing foam blocks. Replaceable modules can remain in the enclosure
if using the original packaging; if not, repackage them separately.
Disconnect the power cords before servicing or cleaning the enclosure.
Use a slightly moistened paper sheet or cloth for cleaning. Avoid using liquid or
spray detergent.
When replacing components, insert them as gently as possible while assuring
full engagement. Vibration and shock can easily damage hard drives.
Only qualified service personnel should open the enclosure.
Contact service personnel if any of the following situations occur:
–The power cord or plug is damaged.
–The enclosure has been exposed to moisture.
–The system has been malfunctioning.
–The enclosure was dropped against a hard surface.
–The enclosure shows obvious signs of breakage.

More than one person might be necessary to move the enclosure because of its
weight. Drives should be removed before moving the enclosure.
Important Notice
The use of Advantech-certified components is strongly recommended to ensure com-
patibility, quality, and normal operation with your Advantech products. Please contact
your distributor for a list of Advantech-certified components (e.g., SFP, SFP+, HBA
cards, iSCSI cables, FC cables, memory modules, etc.).
ESD Precautions
Handle the modules by their retention screws, ejector levers, or metal frame/
faceplate only. Avoid touching the PCB boards or connector pins.
Use a grounded wrist strap and an anti-static work pad to discharge static elec-
tricity when installing or operating the enclosure.
Eliminate dust, debris, carpets, plastic, vinyl, and styrofoam from the work area.
Do not remove any module or component from its anti-static bag before installa-
tion occurs.
Drives must not be stacked on top of each other without their protective drive
trays. Even when drives are fixed in the drive trays, contacting the exposed PCB
or rear-side interface may damage the drives.

and JBOD systems, and explains how to install, monitor, and maintain these compo-
nents.
