Capacitive Touch Control Glass
• Set of conductors which interact with electric fields.
• Human body tissue has conductive electrolytes covered by skin.
• Conductive property of skin makes capacitive sensing possible.
• A sensor area (pad) is designed into the circuit to interact with a finger.
• Design a set of printed circuit traces which direct “fringing electric fields”
into an active sensing area accessible to the customer

Capacitive Touch Control Glass
• A parallel plate capacitor has 2 conductors separated by a dielectric
layer & energy is concentrated between the plates.
• Some energy spills over & is called “fringing electric fields” & when a
finger is placed near a
“
fringing electric field
”
, it increases the charge
finger
is
placed
near
a
fringing
electric
field ,
it
increases
the
charge
storage capacity of the plate capacitor.
• This increase is read by the main board & will then activate a circuit.
• A finger can be sensed because is can hold a charge, & this occurs
if the finger is floating or grounded.
