The Bitterroot
DRY BAG
WATER COLLECTION
AND FILTRATION
• The Bitterroot is an 18-Liter bag, however, use care as not to collect too
much water at once
• Overfilling may damage the bag and create a carry hazard for the user
• When using the Bitterroot to collect water, fill the bag with the desired
amount of water
• Once water is collected, roll down the bag at least three times and connect
the buckles to ensure a good seal
• Once you arrive at your desired location elevate the bag to a safe and con-
venient position
• Use the buckles to attach it to the structure
• Connect the water tube, bulb and filter once you are ready to start the
filtering process
• You may need to squeeze the bulb 2 to 5 times to prime the filter so the
water will start to flow
• Filter times will vary depending on the clarity and sediments in the water,
but on average it will filter 1-liter every 3 minutes
WARNING
To minimize the risk of illness, wipe down the outside of the
Bitterroot, filter, bulb and hose to prevent contaminated water
from running down the system into your water container.

• When you go into the wild or travel abroad, you run the risk of illness ranging
from traveler’s diarrhea to more serious illnesses caused by protozoan cysts (i.e.
Giardia, Cryptosporidium), viruses and bacteria.
• The microorganisms that cause these diseases are often found in the food and
water you consume. Lakes, streams and the local water supply may also be con-
taminated… so please use caution!
•To minimize the risk of contracting these food and waterborne illnesses, the CDC
suggests that you consult with your physician, state health department or travel-
ers’ clinic 4-6 weeks before you depart. Further, we recommend that you down-
load the TravWell & Can I Eat This? App before you begin your journey. You can
download apps and find more information at: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/trav-
el/page/traveler-information-center
• To minimize cross contamination, never connect the filter to The Bitterroot while
you are collecting water.
• If you believe any contaminated water came into contact with filtered water you
should assume it is all contaminated and start the process again.
WARNING
PRODUCT SETUP
• The Bitterroot Dry Bag requires only
minimal set up. The bag is made of
National Sanitation Foundation (NSF)
approved, BPA Free material. The
bag is tough, but care and common
sense should be taken to ensure your
bag lasts.
• The Bitterroot comes with two
hoses—one connects to the water
filter, the other is used to inflate your
air mattress.
STANDARD DRY BAG
CONFIGURATION
•When using the Bitterroot in the
standard dry bag configuration, it is
recommended to roll down the
enclosure at least three times to
ensure a good seal.
The Bitterroot will keep your gear dry in the harshest conditions,
however, it is not intended to be submerged under water.
CAUTION
AIR MATRESS INFLATION
• When using the Bitterroot to inflate
your air mattress, ensure the bag is
fully open to allow you to trap a large
amount of air.
• Once air is trapped inside the bag,
start rolling the bag down to inflate
your mattress. Place your hands on
the outside of the bag to prevent air
from escaping.
• Repeat as many times as necessary
to inflate the mattress to your
comfort level.
The air temperature and amount of
sunlight present will vary the
inflation times along with the brand
of mattress you are using.
