W1005: SMALL JETWAY TYPE 1 BUILDING INSTRUCTIONS
Introduction
This model is of a jetway (air bridge) suitable for use
with narrow-bodied aircraft. The jetway tunnel is
adjustable, up and down, and in and out. It also comes
with a 20m length of sloping walkway to connect it to
buildings, gates and other structures.
Each model contains a number of jetways. All are
constructed in an identical manner.
General Notes
Read the general building instructions, and then these
instructions, before commencing construction.
The diagrams always show the unprinted side of the
card in grey.
Jetway
When cutting out the jetway parts, note that the side
walls of the main tube and the end doors are curved
inwards. These curves will need to be cut carefully by
hand.
Fold the jetway into a box-shaped tube and glue the
long tab inside the opposite face (see Fig 1). Use a long
narrow object, such as an old chopstick, to press the tab
along the length of the walkway from the inside, until
the glue is set. Ensure that the tube does not become
twisted.
Fig 1 – Folding the Jetway Tube
When glued the jetway tube should be rectangular in
section (see Fig 2). Turn the tube so that the glued side
is on the bottom.
Fig 2 – Section Through Jetway Tube
Fold the top, bottom and sides of the jetway doors
upwards to form an open-ended box, with the printed
surfaces on the inside. Apply glue around the inside of
the jetway tube, at the end with the curved sides. Insert
the jetway doors carefully into the tube so that it is
flush all around (see Fig 3).
Fig 3 – Fitting Jetway Doors
With the doors fitted, the jetway should appear as in
Fig 4.

Main Walls
Prior to cutting out the main walls, cut the small ‘H’
shaped opening and score along the top and bottom
edges for a downward fold.
Fold the tabs at the top and bottom of the ‘H’-shaped
opening inwards (see Fig 5). These provide support for
the jetway tube when it is inserted.
Fig 5 – Folding the Jetway Opening
Gently push the square end of the jetway through the
opening in the wall, from the printed side (see Fig 6).
Take care not to damage the jetway or the walls as it is
pushed through. The jetway needs to fit tightly through
the hole, so that it does not hang loosely when the
model is completed.

Fig 6 – Inserting the Jetway
Fold down the top, bottom and sides of the jetway end
to form an open box shape. Apply glue around the
outside of the square end of the jetway tube and fit the
end to it (see Fig 7). (The jetway end is intended to
stop the jetway itself from being pulled out of the
completed model.)
Fig 7 – Fitting the Jetway End
Fold in tabs on the sides of the roof and then fold down
the roof itself. Similarly, fold in the tabs around the
floor and then fold the floor inwards (see Fig 8).
Fig 8 – Folding the Roof and Floor
Apply glue to the first tab on the roof and floor and fit
the side wall to it (see Fig 9). Make sure the roof and
floor are flush with the top and bottom edges of the
wall. Fold in the small tab on the end of the wall.
Fig 9 – Fitting the First Wall
Apply glue to the tabs on the roof and floor at the other
end and fit the next wall to them in a similar manner
(see Fig 10). Then apply glue to the three remaining
tabs and fit the last wall. Ensure that the roof and floor
are flush with the walls all the way around.
Fig 10 – Fitting the Remaining Walls
The main walls and jetway assembly should appear as
in Fig 11.

Walkway
Fold the walkway into a box-shaped tube and glue the
long tab inside the opposite face (see Fig 12). Use a
long narrow object, such as an old chopstick, to press
the tab along the length of the walkway from the
inside, until the glue is set. Ensure that the tube does
not become twisted.

Fig 12 – Folding the Walkway Tube
Turn the tube so that the glued side is on the bottom.
Fold the four sides of the walkway ends down at 90
degrees. Apply glue all around the end of the walkway
tube and fit the end to it (see Fig 13). As the walkway
is sloping, ensure that the correct end is fitted, so that it
matches the shape of the walkway sides. Repeat for the
other end.

Final Assembly
The jetway is intended to be used for embarking
passengers at an aircraft parking stand. It is important
that the model is located so that it will fit properly
against parked aircraft. Check its fit in your intended
layout before finishing construction.
Apply glue to the flat end of the walkway and fit it to
the side of the main wall assembly (see Fig 14).
The walkway slopes to allow the jetway to be attached
to buildings and other structures. It is intended to slope
down towards the jetway, so that the other end is at the
correct height. Make sure the walkway is attached the
correct way round.
The walkway can be fitted in any suitable position, so
that it will fit into the final layout in the desired
manner. If the walkway is centred between the top of
the jetway wall and the feint horizontal line printed
around the walls, its other end will fit neatly to most
buildings and other structures in the Airport Designs
range.
Fig 14 – Fitting the Walkway
To fit the jetway to a building or other structure, apply
glue to the other end of the walkway and fit it carefully
to the building wall in the desired position (see Fig 15).
Take care to ensure that the walkway is straight and the
jetway rests flat on the ground.
