To optimize the performance of this unit, please
read through this manual carefully.
In addition to this operating instructions manual,
be sure to refer to the separate installation and
connections manuals as well.
PRECAUTIONS
•Thisunitisdesignedtobeoperatedona12-volt
DC negative-ground electrical system only.
•To prevent short-circuiting, disconnect the
negative car battery terminal until the unit has
been mounted and connected completely.
•When replacing the fuse, be sure to use one
whose amperage rating is identical. Use of a
fuse of higher amperage may cause serious
damage to the unit.
•DoNOTattempttodisassemblethisunit. Laser
rays from the optical pickup are dangerous to
the eyes.
•Make sure that pins or other foreign objects do
not get inside the unit; they may cause
malfunctioning, or a safety hazard such as
electrical shock or exposure of laser rays.
•When your car was parked in direct sunlight
resulting in a considerable rise in temperature
inside the car, allow the unit to cool off before
operating it.
•Keep the volume at such a level that you can
hear outside warning sounds (horns, sirens,
etc.).

This unit can be operated using the AIWA RC-SW1 or RC-CD1 remote
control (sold separately).

Notes on CDs
•Adefective or soiled disc inserted into the unit
can cause sound to drop out during playback.
•Handle the disc by holding its inner and outer
edges.
•DoNOTtouchthesurfaceoftheunlabeledside
of the disc.
•Do NOTstick paper or tape etc. on the surface.
•Do NOT expose the disc to direct sunlight or
excessive heat.
•Clean the disc before playback. Wipe the disc
from the center outward with a cleaning cloth.
•NEVERusesolventssuchasbenzineoralcohol
to clean the disc.
•Smaller 3-inch (8cm) CDs cannot be played on
this unit. And do not use an adaptor as it may
cause malfunctioning.
•Do NOT use irregular shape CDs (example:
heart-shaped, octagonal ones). It may result in
malfunction.

DETACHING AND
ATTACHING THE FRONT
PANEL
You can detach the front panel from the unit and
carry it with you when you leave your car
unattended.
When you carry the front panel out of your car,
use the supplied carrying case.
Beforedetachingthefrontpanel,removethedisc
to prevent possible damage to the unit.
1Press PWR to turn the unit off.
2While supporting the front panel with
one hand, press %to release one side
ofthepanel. Care must be taken not to
dropthepanel. Itmaysuddenlyejectat
this point.
3When the front panel is lifted from the
unit,removeitbypullingawayfromthe
unit.
Do NOT touch the connector on the reverse
side of the front panel, as doing so may
contaminatetheconnectorandcauseapoor
connection resulting in a malfunction.
Attaching the front panel
Security Lamp
Whenthefrontpanelisdetached,youcanfindan
LEDlamponthefrontsideoftheunit. Thislamp
is designed to deter theft, and continues to flash
whenthefrontpanelisdetached. Thisunitis not
equipped with any other security systems such
as a security alarm, so there are limitations to its
effectiveness.

SETTING THE CLOCK
1Press PWR to turn the unit on.
2Press and hold DISP for more than 2
seconds.
3Press TUNE k to set the hour.
Press TUNE
i to set the minute.
4Press DISP.
The clock starts working from 0 second.
Having the clock displayed while the unit is
turned on
Press DISP.
To return the unit to its former display, press
DISP again. The former display is restored after
5 seconds even if you don’t press DISP.
RADIO OPERATION
1Press PWR to turn the unit on.
2Press BAND to select the band from
among FM1, FM2, FM3, MW1 (AM1),
MW2 (AM2) and LW.
Thebandindicatorsappearcyclicallyinorder.
•FM1, FM2 and FM3 share the same
frequency range.
•MW1 (AM1) and MW2 (AM2) share the
same frequency range.

3Press (more than 2 seconds) either

station.
Theunitstartsscanningandtunesinastation
automatically (seek tuning).
Press TUNE k to decrease and TUNE i to
increase the frequency.
Pressthebuttonagaintocancelthefunction.
Repeattheprocedureuntilthedesiredstation
is tuned in.
Note
If you press (less than 0.5 second at a time)
either TUNE k or TUNE i , the frequency
decreases or increases step by step.

PRESETTING STATIONS
To preset stations automatically
(auto memory)
1Press PWR to turn the unit on.
2Press BAND to select a desired band
from among FM1, FM2, FM3, MW1
(AM1), MW2 (AM2) and LW.
3Press and hold A.ME for more than 2
seconds to activate the automatic
presetting function.
Thisunitcanstoreupto6stationsinmemory
forthepresetstationbuttons1to 6 with “LO”
(local) indicator lighting up.
Iftheunitcouldnotsearchforallof6stations,
“LO” (local) indicator goes off and starts
searching for weaker stations again.
Use this function to automatically preset up to 6
stations each for FM1, FM2, FM3, MW1 (AM1),
MW2(AM2)andLW(uptoatotalof36stations).
•When auto memory is completed, the station
stored in the preset station button 1 is tuned in.
•To stop auto memory, press A.ME again.
To check the preset stations (preset scan)
•If you wish to check the preset stations, press
A.MEforlessthan2seconds.Thepresetstations
stored in memory will be tuned in for 5 seconds
each in order.
•Tostopthisfunction,pressA.MEagainorpress
any of the preset station buttons 1 to 6.

To turn the unit off
Press PWR.
Note
The “ST” (stereo) indicator lights up when the
tuned-instationisbroadcastinginstereoandthe
reception is good.

To preset stations manually
You can manually preset stations that have not
been selected by auto memory.
1Press PWR to turn the unit on.
2Press BAND to select the band from
among FM1, FM2, FM3, MW1 (AM1),
MW2 (AM2) and LW.
3Tune in the station that you wish to
preset with TUNE
k or TUNE i .
4Pressoneof thepresetstation buttons
1 to 6 for approximately 2 seconds.
While the station you are presetting is being
registered in memory, the sound is
momentarily muted.
The number of the pressed preset station
button appears next to the frequency
indication.

Repeattheseprocedurestopresetupto6stations
each for FM1, FM2, FM3, MW1 (AM1), MW2
(AM2) and LW.
•If you try to preset a station on a preset station
button on which another station of the same
band has already been preset, the previously
preset station will be erased.
To tune in the preset stations
1Press PWR to turn the unit on.
2Press BAND to select a desired band
from among FM1, FM2, FM3, MW1
(AM1), MW2 (AM2) and LW.
3Pressthedesiredpresetstationbutton.
The number of the pressed preset station
button appears next to the frequency
indication.
Active tuning reception control (ATRC)
This unit automatically suppresses FM noise
caused by varying signal strength resulting from
movement of the car.
•Thebuilt-inautomaticblendingcircuitmixesthe
left and right channel signals according to the
strength of the reception. At the same time, the
high-cut circuit activates to maintain the sound
quality.
•If the reception becomes even weaker, the unit
automatically switches to Monaural mode to
reduce noise.

MY INFORMATION
SWITCH
You can timer-activate the radio for a daily radio
program. TheunitturnsonandoffinRadiomode
at the preset time automatically.
Setting the timer
1With the unit off, press and hold MY
INFO for more than 2 seconds.
The “PO” indication flashes in the display
window.
2Press SEL.
Timer indication flashes.
3Setthetimeyouwishtheunittoturnon
in Radio mode.
Press TUNE k to set the hour.
Press TUNE i to set the minute.
4Press SEL.
Radio indication flashes.

5Press BAND to select the band.
6Tune in the station that you wish to
preset with TUNE
k or TUNE i .
7Press SEL.
Timer indication flashes.
8Set the time you wish the unit to turn
off.
Press TUNE k to set the hour.
Press TUNE i to set the minute.
9Press and hold MY INFO for more than
2 seconds.
Yoursettingisstored inmemoryandtheunit
turns off.

1Insert a disc with the labeled side
upward to start CD play.
Ifadiscisalready inserted,pressCDtostart
CD play.
The track number and elapsed playing time
appear.

Activating the timer
1With the unit on, press MY INFO.
The “MY INFO” indicator lights up and the
timer is activated.
To cancel the timer
Press MY INFO again so that the “MY INFO”
indicator disappears.
To check the setting
With the unit off, press MY INFO.
Theturn-ontime,followedbytheradiofrequency
and the turn-off time, appears in the display
windoweachfor1second,thentheunitturnsoff.
Notes
•Even if the unit is in a mode other than Radio
mode, the unit switches to Radio mode and
tunes in the preset radio program at the preset
time automatically.
•Evenifyouarelisteningtoaradio programwith
this function, pressing the following buttons
switches the unit to other mode:
—Pressing BAND changes the unit to Radio
mode.
—Pressing CD changes the unit to CD Play
mode.
—Pressing TAPE/MD IN changes the unit to
TAPE/MD IN mode.
Ifyouswitchmodeswiththese buttons, the unit
doesnotturn offatthe turn-offtimeofthetimer.
