Beim erstmaligen AnschlieBen des Netzkabels werden im
Displayfenster die voreingestellten Funktionen des Gerates
demonstriert.

WARNING
FOR USE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM (K model only)
This appliance is supplied with a fitted three pin mains plug. A 3
amp fuse is fitted in the plug.
Should the fuse need to be replaced, use a 3 amp fuse approved
by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. When replacing the fuse, you must
ensure that any removable fuse covers are correctly refitted.
If you should lose the fuse cover, please contact your nearest
AIWA dealer.
DO NOT CUT OFF THE PLUG FROM THIS APPLIANCE. If the
plug fitted is not suitable for the power points in your home, or the
cable is too short to reach a power point, obtain an appropriate
safety approved extension lead or adaptor. If in any doubt please
consult a qualified electrician. ;
If the plug is cut off, remove the fuse and dispose of the plug
immediately. THERE IS A DANGER OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL
SHOCK IF THE CUT OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY 13
AMP SOCKET.
If a new plug is to be fitted please ensure it contains a 3 amp fuse,
otherwise the circuit should be protected by a 3 amp fuse at the
distribution board.
IMPORTANT
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the
following code:
BLUE — NEUTRAL
BROWN — LIVE
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may
not correspond with the colour markings identifying the terminals
in your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the
terminal which is marked by the letter N or coloured BLACK.
The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the
terminal which is marked by the letter L or coloured RED.
DO NOT connect either the BLUE or BROWN wires in the mains
lead to the earth terminal (marked with the letter E or by he earth
symbol + or coloured GREEN or GREEN/YELLOW) of a three pin
plug.

FEATURES
DSP (Digital Signal Processor) system
DSP circuits can recreate the effect of sounds reflected from walls
or ceilings, to obtain the sound presence of real environments
without the need to connect surround speakers.
. There are three DSP modes, with matching equalization curves.
Front surround system
The front speakers provide an effective surround sound effect.
In addition, by selecting a DSP mode, you can obtain the sound
presence of a disco, live music performance or concert hall.
VOCAL FADER and MULTIPLEX functions for Karaoke
Using the following functions, you can enjoy Karaoke with your
favourite music software.
VOCAL FADER function
This function makes the vocal part on ordinary discs or tapes
softer, so you can enjoy Karaoke without special Karaoke
software.
You can also use the AUTO VOCAL FADER function to reduce
the vocal part only while you sing with the connected micro-
phone.
MULTIPLEX function
This function mutes the vocal part on multi audio discs or tapes,
so that the accompaniment is heard from both speakers.
You can also use the AUTO MULTIPLEX function to reduce the
vocal part only while you sing with the connected microphone.
Direct play function
If a disc or tape is inserted, you can turn the unit on and begin
playback by pressing one of the direct play buttons. This is a
convenient way to begin playback quickly.

Questa funzione permette di attenuare la parte vocale dei dischi
© cassette del tipo corrente, e si pud quindi cantare con il
“Karaoke” senza utilizzare il software di musica.
Si pud anche utilizzare la funzione AUTO VOCAL FADER per
ridurre la parte vocale soltanto mentre si canta con il microfono
collegato.
Funzione MULTIPLEX
Questa funzione permette di ridurre al silenzio la parte vocale
di dischi oppure nastri multi audio, e solo ’'accompagnamento
verra prodotto da entrambi gli altoparlanti.
Si pud anche utilizzare ja funzione AUTO MULTIPLEX per
ridurre la parte vocale soltanto mentre si canta con il microfono
collegato.
Funzione di lettura diretta
Se un disco oppure un nastro viene inserito, si pud attivare Punita
ed iniziare la lettura premendo uno dei tasti della lettura cliretta.
Questo rappresenta un modo conveniente per iniziare la lettura
rapidamente.

PRECAUTIONS
Follow the advice below for safe and correct operation.
On AC voltage
Before use, check that the rated voltage of your system matches
your local voltage.
On placement
* Do not use the system in places which are extremely hot, cold,
dusty or humid.
¢ Place the system on a flat, even surface.
* Be careful not to obstruct the ventilation holes on the exterior of
the unit, as increased internal temperature may affect the electric
parts. In particular, do not place the system in an airtight rack.
On safety
¢ When connecting and disconnecting the AC cord, grip the plug
and not the cord itself. Pulling the cord may damage it and thus
be hazardous.
¢ When you are not going to use the system fora long period of time,
disconnect the AC cord. If the cord is plugged in, asmall amount
of current keeps on flowing to the system even if the power switch
is not ON.
e lf the AC cord is broken or damaged, or if the wires are
exposed, contact your dealer or an Aiwa service centre and
have it replaced or repaired immediately.
On condensation
When the room is heated, you sometimes see water drops on your
windows; this is called condensation.
This can occur inside the CD player unit when:
¢ it is moved from a cold spot to a warm spot.
¢ itis used ina room where the heating system has just been turned
on.
¢ it is used in a place with a lot of moisture.
¢ itis used where it has direct contact with cool air, suchas near an
air-conditioner.
Whenithas condensation inside, the unit may not function normally.
Let it stand for 1 to 2 hours before turning the power on; or, gradually
heat the room and dry the unit before use.
Should any trouble occur, disconnect the AC cord and contact
a qualified service representative.

Condensazione di umidita
Quando una stanza viene riscaldata, spesso si possono notare

Questo fenomeno puo verificarsi all’interno del lettore CD quando:
¢ viene portato da un ambiente freddo ad un ambiente caldo.

* viene usato dove sia in contatto diretto con aria fredda, come

Quando si verifica condensazione di unidita allinterno, l'apparecchio
pud non funzionare normalmente. Lasciarlo riposare perun’orao
due prima di accenderlo o scaldare gradualmente |’'ambiente in
modo che l’apparecchio si asciughi prima di usarlo.
In caso di problemi, scollegare il cavo di alimentazione CA e

CONNECTING THE SUPPLIED
SPEAKERS
You can obtain a front surround effect.
Connect the speakers to the SPEAKERS terminals and the SUR-
ROUND SPEAKERS jacks of the main unit.
To connect to the SPEAKERS terminals
Connect the right speaker @ to the R terminal, and the left speaker
@ to the L terminal with the cords attached to the speakers.
Open the levers of the SPEAKERS terminals and insert the
conductors of the cords with white stripes to ® and the conductors
of the black cords to 9.
Then, shut the levers to lock.
To connect to the SURROUND SPEAKERS jacks
Use the supplied yellow-black cords.
Connecting to the speakers
Push the levers of each terminal, and insert the conductors of the
yellow cords to © and the conductors of the black cords to ©. Then,
release the levers to lock.

Connect the speakers to the SURROUND SPEAKERS jacks with
the plugs of the connecting cords.
Right speaker @ should be connected to the R jack, and left
speaker @ to the L jack.
INOTE
¢ The speaker systems are magnetically shielded. However, if
the speakers should affect the colour on your TV screen, turn
off the TV and turn it on again 15-30 minutes later. if the TV
screen still has poor colour, move the speakers away from the
TV.
¢ Do not leave magnets or objects generating magnetism near
the speakers.
CONNECTING THE AC CORD
Connect the AC cord to an AC outlet.
A demonstration of the unit’s preset functions begins in the
display window (DEMO mode). This demonstration can be
cancelled. Refer to “DEMO MODE” on page 18.
Also, the Il SET button flashes to inform you that the current time
needs to be set. Refer to “SETTING THE CLOCK” on page 20.
If setting up with optional equipment, connect the other equipment
before connecting the AC cord.

HINWEIS
¢ Die Lautsprecher sind magnetisch abgeschirmt. Falls die
Lautsprecher einen Einflu8 auf die Bildschirmfarbe des Fernsehers
haben, sollte der Fernseher ausgeschaltet und 15 bis 30 Minuten
spater wieder eingeschaltet werden. Wenn die Farben des
Bildschirms immer noch verfalscht sind, sollten die Lautsprecher
weiter entfernt vom Fernseher aufgestelit werden.
* Keine Magneten oder magnetisierenden Gegenstande in der
Nahe der Lautsprecher liegen lassen.

Preparation
e Untie the supplied FM unipolar antenna.

terminal. Insert it into the centre of the terminal.
MW/LW: Open the levers of the MW/LW LOOP terminalis. Insert

Positioning FM unipolar antenna
Extend this antenna vertically and fix its end to the wali with
cellophane tape.
Positioning MW/LW loop antenna
To fix it to the wall, use screws.
Position this antenna to find the best direction.

¢ Do not bring the end of the FM unipolar antenna near metal
objects or curtain rails.
¢ Do not unwind the MW/LW loop antenna wire.
* Do not bring the MW/LW loop antenna near a turntable system,
CD player, TV monitor, or the stereo system itself, or close to the
AC cord or speaker cords, since noise will be picked up.
CONNECTING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA
For better FM reception, use of an outdoor antenna is recom-

Connecting optional equipment — E}
You can listen to and record sound from optional equipment
connected to this unit.
Use a cable with an RCA phono plug (not supplied) to connect
analogue equipment (turntables, LD players without digital
output connectors, VCRs, etc.) for audio playback.
Connection
Connect the red plug to the R jack, and the white plug to the L jack
of the VIDEO/AUX jacks.
When connecting a turntable
Use turntable with an equalizer amplifier (Aiwa PX-E850, etc.).
Connecting digital equipment — E]
This unit can output digital sound of CD through the CD DIGITAL
OUT jack.
Use an optical cable (not supplied) to output digital signals from this
unit to equipment such as DAT decks, a minidisc recorder, and
digital amplifiers.

Press the POWER button.
You can also turn the unit on by, pressing-one of the direct play
buttons. (See page 18.)
After use
Press the POWER button to turn off the power. The display
changes to clock or DEMO mode.
For 4 seconds after turning on the unit
The most recently used function button flashes.
No operation may be carried out during this period.

Whenever one of the function buttons is pressed, the buttons for
that operation light up or flash.
Example:
When connecting the AC cord, the If SET button flashes to guide
you in setting the current time.
Headphones
Connect headphones to the PHONES jack with a stereo standard
plug (96.3 mm/"/ inch).
No sound is heard from the speakers while headphones are
plugged in.
After a power interruption
The current time needs to be reset. (See page 20.)
* If power is interrupted for more than about 24 hours, you will also
have to reset preset stations and timer playback or recording
settings.
CASSETTE TAPES
Usable tapes
For playback, use normal (type I), CrOz (type II), and metal (type
IV) tapes.
For recording, use normal (type I) and CrOz (type II) tapes.
The proper bias and equalization to suit the type of tape are
selected automatically.
Tape slack
Take up any slack in the tape with a pencil or similar tool before use.
Slack tape may break or jam in the mechanism. —
120-minute or longer tapes
These are extremely thin and easily deformed or damaged. They
are not recommended.
To prevent accidental erasure
Break off the plastic tabs on the cassette tape after recording, with
a screwdriver or other pointed tool. -

Nach der Verwendung
Die POWER-Taste zum Ausschaiten des Gerates driicken. Das
Display wird auf die Anzeige der Uhr oder die DEMO-Betriebsart
umgeschaltet.
Fir vier Sekunden nach dem Einschalten des Gerates
Die zuletzt verwendete Funktionstaste blinkt.
Wahrend dieser Zeit kann das Gerat nicht verwendet werden.
Aufleuchtende Bedienelemente — E
Beim Drucken einer der Funktionstasten jeuchten oder blinken die
Tasten fiir diese Funktion.
Beispiel:
Nach dem AnschluB des Netzkabels blinkt die I SET-Taste und
weist so darauf hin, daB die gegenwartige Zeit eingestellt werden
muB.
Kopfhorer
Kopfhdrer mit einem Stereo-Standard-Stecker (@ 6,3 mm) an die
PHONES-Buchse anschlieBen.
BeimAnschluB der Kopfhérer wird kein Ton von den Lautsprechern
wiedergegeben.
Nach einem Stromausfall
Die Uhrzeit muB neu eingestelit werden. (Siehe Seite 21.)
* Bei einem Stromausfall von langer als 24 Stunden missen auch
die gespeicherten Sender, die Timer-Programmierung bzw. die
Aufnahme-Einstellungen erneut eingegeben werden.
KASSETTENBANDER
Verwendbare Kassetten
Fir die Wiedergabe kénnen normale (Typ I), CrOe- (Typ IH) und
Reineisen-Bander (Typ IV) verwendet werden.
Fir die Aufnahme kénnen normale (Typ I) und CrOz-Bander (Typ
II) verwendet werden.
Die richtige Vorspannung und Entzerrung fur den entsprechenden
Bandtyp wird automatisch gewahit. ~
Bandlose
Loses Band vor dem Einlegen der Kassette mit einem Bleistift oder
einem ahnlichen Gegenstand wie in der Abbildung gezeigt straffen.
Loses Band kann reiBen oder sich im Mechanismus verfangen.

120 Minuten oder langere Kassetten
Diese Bander sind sehr dinn und k6nnen leicht beschadigt werden.
Daher werden diese Kassetten nicht fir die Verwendung mit
diesem Gerat empfohlen.
Schutz gegen versehentliches Loschen
Die Léschschutzzunge der Kassette mit einem Schraubenzieher

Non é possibile eseguire operazioni durante questo periodo.

Ogni volta che uno dei tasti di funzione viene premuto, i tasti per
quella operazione si illumina oppure lampeggia.
Esempio :
Quando si collegare il cordone CA, il tasto Il SET lampeggia per
aiutare l’operatore nella regolazione dell’ora corrente.
Cuffie
Collegare le cuffie al jack PHONES con uno spinotto stereo
standard (diametro 6,3 mm).
Nessun suono viene sentito dagli altoparlanti mentre le cutfie sono
inserite.
Dopo una interruzione dell’alimentazione
Lora corrente deve essere ripristinata. (Vedi a pagina 21 .)
* Se l'alimentazione é interrotta per pil: di 24 ore, le stazioni di
preselezione e la lettura del timer oppure le regolazioni della
registrazione devono essere ripristinate.
NASTRI A CASSETTA
Nastri utilizzabili
I nastri tipo Normal (tipo 1), CrOe (tipo II) oppure i nastri Metal (tipo
IV) possono essere riprodotti.
Per la registrazione, utilizzare i nastri tipo Normal (tipo I) oppure
CrQz (tipo I).
La polarizzazione e l’equalizzazione appropriate per il tipo del
nastro vengono selezionate automaticamente quando viene inserito
un nastro.
Nastro allentato
Controllare e stringere un nastro allentato prima del suo uso con
una matita oppure un utensile simile.
Un a allentato puod rompere oppure bloccare il meccanismo.

DEMO (DEMONSTRATION) MODE
When you first connect the AC cord, the display window demon-
strates the unit’s preset functions.
When the power is turned on, the DEMO dispiay is hidden by the
operation display. When the power is turned off, it is restored.
To cancel DEMO mode — BY
Press the DEMO button.
To re-enter DEMO mode
Press the DEMO button again.
After a power interruption
The unit enters DEMO mode.
DIRECT PLAY FUNCTIONS
Youcan turn the unit on and start playback immediately by pressing
one of the direct play buttons. Press the TUNER/BAND button to
listen to the tuner, the TAPE/DECK1/2 button to listen to a tape, or
the CD button to listen to a disc loaded in the disc compartment.
NOTE)
If the power is on, pressing the CD button or the TAPE/DECK1/2
button selects a source to be played. Press the <4 button to start
play.

Das Gerat kann durch Driicken einer der Tasten fir direkte
Wiedergabe eingeschaltet und die Wiedergabe sofort begonnen
werden. Die TUNER/BAND-Taste fiir die Wiedergabe mit dem
Tuner, die TAPE/DECK1/2-Taste fur die Wiedergabe eines Bandes
oder die CD-Taste zur Wiedergabe einer im CD-Fach eingelegten
CD dricken.

Bei eingeschaltetem Gerat wird durch das Driicken der CD-Taste
oder der TAPE/DECK1/2-Taste die wiederzugebende Quelle
gewahit. Die <4 -Taste zum Starten der Wiedergabe drucken.
MODO DEMO (DIMOSTRAZIONE)

SETTING THE CLOCK
When you first connect the AC cord, the Il SET button flashes to
inform you that the current time needs to be set. Set the time as
follows, while the power is still off.
1 Press the II SET button.
The hour flashes.
2 Press the << DOWN or »P UP button to
designate the hour.
3 Press the II SET button to set the hour.
The hour stops flashing and the minute starts flashing.
4 Press the << DOWN or » > UP buiton to desig-
nate the minute.
5 Press the If SET button to set the minute and
complete setting.
The minute stops flashing in the display and the clock starts
running from 00 seconds.
To set the time more accurately, press the If SET button when
another clock or a time signal indicates that the current time is
00 seconds.
Each colon flash in the display indicates one second.
To correct the current time — EY
Press the CLOCK button on the remote control. The clock is
displayed for 4 seconds.
Within this period, press the I] SET button and continue by
following steps 2 to 5.
To display the current time while the power is on
Press the CLOCK button on the remote control. The current time
is displayed for 4 seconds.
However, the time cannot be displayed, during recording.
To switch to the 24-hour standard
The clock is factory-set to the 12-hour standard. To switch to the
24-hour standard, press the CLOCK button on the remote control
and then press the il button within 4 seconds. Repeat the same
procedure to restore the 12-hour standard.
After a power interruption
If you switch the display to clock, the clock flashes to rernind you
that the current time needs to be reset.
