2. The IO control system
Alamarin-Jet IO is a comprehensive control system compatible with AJ 230,
AJ 245, AJ 285, AJ 288 and AJ 340 jets, in both single and twin installations.
With the IO control system, the boat may be operated regardless of whether
it is driven quickly and linearly or whether it is being manoeuvred in narrow
environments, such as a harbour. A simple and intuitive control solution makes
controlling the boat natural and easy. A clear, multicolour display indicates the
state of the system and the regulating units, and makes it easier to control the
boat. The IO control system also includes a backup system for all vital control
functions.

A second control station may also be added to the system as an accessory.
An optional autopilot interface module may be added if NMEA2000 networked
3rd party autopilot systems are used with the IO control system.

3. Operation
3.1.Drive modes
3.1.1.Harbour drive mode
In harbour drive mode, the user can steer the boat in all directions and turn
the boat in place. The speed of the boat is limited to about half its normal
speed in harbour drive mode, which makes steering in the harbour safer and
easier for the user. This drive mode is indicated by the drive mode LED lights
(figure 5, point 1) and the H arrows on the display (figure 5, point 2).

3.1.2.Normal drive mode
In normal drive mode, the user can steer the boat forward, reverse and
curving sideways. Normal drive mode allows for full-speed driving. This drive
mode is indicated by the operation mode LED lights (figure 7, point 1) and the
N arrows on the display (figure 7, point 2).

3.2.Steering/control
Depending on the configuration, the jets are controlled solely with a steering
wheel and a joystick or two joysticks, which means that you do not need any
other controls to steer the boat. The system always starts in the harbour drive
mode by default. You can change the drive mode by pressing the button on the
end of the JS1 joystick (figure 9).
Figure9.JS1
Keep the button depressed until you see that the drive mode has changed. The
drive mode is indicated on the display and by the drive mode indicator LED
lights on the control panel.
Default display:

Operation

The Propulsion window is the system’s default window and the first window to
be displayed after the system is started up. This window contains all the data
needed for controlling the jets, due to which it should always be kept active
while driving the boat. Components of the Propulsion window:
1. Rotation speed of the port side jet’s shaft (rotations per minute).
2. Position of the port side jet’s reversing deflector. When the black bar is
at the top, the deflector is in the upright position. The horizontal line
indicates the deflector’s middle point in front of the steering nozzle,
where equal forward and reverse thrust is provided.
3. The control system’s drive mode (harbour and normal drive mode).
4. Position of the starboard side jet’s reversing deflector. When the black
bar is at the top, the deflector is in the upright position. The horizontal
line indicates the deflector’s middle point in front of the steering nozzle,
where equal forward and reverse thrust is provided.
5. Rotation speed of the starboard side jet’s shaft (rotations per minute).
6. Engine RPM fine control. The cross line indicates zero setting.
7. Position of the port side jet’s steering nozzle. When the bar is on the left,
the steering nozzle is turned to the left.
8. Return button icon.
3.2.1.Starting up
1. Turn on the system and ensure that the system’s automatic fuses are in the
ON position.
2. Ensure that the display is switched on and the drive mode indicator arrows
are visible. The system starts up in the harbour drive mode by default (see
section 3.1. Drive modes, page 9).
3. Centre the joysticks/E-Wheel.
4. Start the engines.
5. Activate the gear switches.
6. The jets can now be controlled via the Alamarin-Jet IO control system.
3.2.2.Backup control
The system includes a backup control system that can be installed directly
onto the control panel, or separated from the rest of the system. The
backup control compensates for any fault occurring in the computer or data
transfer bus, allowing the engine and the jets to be controlled directly and
electronically via the backup control panel.
The backup control panel is activated by pressing the backup button (figure
11, component 1). When the backup control system is active, the backup
button is illuminated. When the backup control system is switched on, the
primary control system is switched off.

3. Control switch of the starboard side reversing deflector
4. Port side engine RPM control
5. Starboard side engine RPM control
6. Control switch for both steering nozzles
3.2.3.Changing the control station
The Alamarin-Jet IO control system can be expanded with a second control
station, available as an accessory. Changing the control station has been made
as safe and easy as possible.

The control station is changed by following these steps:
• Control station relinquishing control:
1. Centre both joysticks/the E-Wheel.
2. Press both gear switches into the neutral position.
• Control station gaining control:
1. Ensure that the joystick(s)/E-Wheel are centred.
2. Ensure that both gear switches are in the neutral position.
3. Press the button on the end of the JS1 joystick (figure 12) until the
control mode indicator LED lights are illuminated.
4. Now you can activate the gears with the gear switches and continue
driving.
