The Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore is an ultra-compact SONET multiplexer
designed for fiber to the business and fiber to the curb applications. Its small
size and low power consumption make it a sensible option for delivering low
density DS-1, DS-3, and 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet private line connections
to small- and medium-sized customers.

is designed to extend the SONET
network to small and medium enterprise
customers, at a price point that helps
profitable service generation from day
one. Supported by a common operations
environment in conjunction with the
1665 DMX family of products, element

The Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore
can be mounted in a cabinet, on a
wall, or even in a rack. It is environ-
mentally hardened and can function
in a variety of places including extreme
temperature environments.

Supports Network and Facility Protection
This product offers both SONET and facility protection, allowing the continuation
of service in the event of a failure. It offers a variety of configurations to deliver
carrier-class services to customers, including:
•Upto16fullyprotectedDS-1sand2DS-3s
•Four10/100MbpsFastEthernetprivatelines
•OC-3orOC-12highspeedinterface
•1+1orUPSRprotection
Circuitpackredundancyinthemain1andmain2slotsoffersfacilityprotection,
traffic restoration, and circuit pack replacement without loss of service. The 1665
DMXplore system can be upgraded in-service to support additional DS-1 and
DS-3interfaces.Plus,theshelfcanbeequippedtoservediversenetworkappli-
cations and a variety of current and evolving network operations needs. These
capabilities extend carrier-class reliability all the way to the network edge.

The Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore
offers many powerful features. The
modestly sized unit transmits voice
and data over a single SONET line,
which avoids costs associated with
more complex network schemes. It
offers a graceful evolution from Fiber
Reachmultiplexers,andiscompatible
withotherSONETcompliantequip-
ment for interoperability with an ex-
isting network. Its design also includes
a data service slot that supports four
10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet private lines.
Though compact, it offers the same
level of protection as many larger next-
generation network elements, and is
environmentally hardened for Outside
Plant(OSP)applications.Thiscom-
bination is well-suited to a variety of
deployment options — whether it’s to
support the customer at the network

Provides Full Functionality Right out of the Box
The modular design of the system provides a variety of configurations that simplify
operationsandinstallation.Usingthexedoption,apre-provisionedsetofcross-
connections are fully functional right out of the box. This enables fast and inex-
pensive turn-up using very little craft labor or expertise, while providing the high
levelofserviceandprotectionrequiredbymanyonsitemetroapplications.
With the variable option, the cross-connects can be provisioned on-site to meet
customer-specific service needs. Either way, the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore
can help support business needs.

Helps Lower Start-up Costs

DMXplore system allows the stacking of multiple nodes at
one location. This helps enable a low cost start-up by providing
the ability to grow incrementally at one location.
Allows simplified installation
The centralized operation of this product is supported by a full set
ofSingle-EndedOperations(SEO),andcontrolandmaintenance
features. Integrated test capabilities and default provisioning
help simplify installation, and basic maintenance tasks can be
performed using faceplate LED displays and controls. Its Craft
InterfaceTerminal(CIT)orremoteOScanprovideaccessto
sophisticated maintenance, provisioning and reporting features.
The Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore can help cost-effectively
deliver voice and private line services to customer premises where
end-user density would not warrant a larger multiplexer. It offers
