Overview
Scope
This manual and the equipment it describes are for use only by qualied biomedical service personnel. It is intended only as
a guide for technical maintenance of the Alesi Ultravision System.
This manual is intended to be a companion to the Ultravision User Manual. A thorough understanding of the User Manual is
required to properly understand and use the information in this Service Manual.
Statement on Electromagnetic Compatibility
The Ultravision generator and battery recharging station require special precautions regarding Electromagnetic Compatibility
(EMC) and need to be installed and put in to service according to the EMC information provided in Chapter 9 of the User
Manual. Portable and mobile RF communications equipment may affect the Ultravision generator and battery recharging
station.
Ultravision system warning
No modication of this equipment is allowed.
Warranty
Please consult term and conditions of sale for details of the warranty offered with the Ultravision system and its components.

General Information
Indications
The Ultravision system is indicated for the clearance of smoke and other particulate matter that is created during
laparoscopic surgery.
Contraindications
The Ultravision system is an electrical energy-based system that must not be used on patients tted with a pacemaker or
implantable cardioverter debrillator (ICD).
Device Description
The Ultravision device is intended to remove surgical smoke from the visual eld during laparoscopic surgical procedures
by means of electrostatic precipitation. Surgical smoke refers to the suspended aqueous and particulate matter that is
generated as a by-product of the combustion and other processes that are associated with the use of energy-based surgical
instruments.
The components of the Ultravision system are described in Table 1. This service manual only concerns the Ultravision
generator and battery recharger.
Component Description Purpose
Standalone battery operated generator Electrostatic energy source.
Battery recharging station Recharging of the reusable battery.
Ionwand Delivery of the energy from the generator that charges the
surgical smoke particles in the abdominal cavity.
Catheter Holds Ionwand in place during surgery.
Trocar Introduction of the catheter into the abdominal cavity.
Patient return adaptor Provides common return path with electrosurgical generator,
allowing use of a shared patient return electrode.

Maintenance Checks
The Ultravision system should be inspected at least once every year, regardless of use. This inspection should include
checks for:
• Any visible damage to the generator and recharging station.
• Visible damage to the battery recharging station power cable and plug.
• Visible damage to the patient return adaptor cable or connectors. Proper mating between the patient return
adaptors and the Ultravision generator and electrosurgical generator. Functionality can be assessed by
connecting a patient return electrode to the Ultravision Generator return socket and to an ESU return socket via
a patient return adaptor cable and an Ionwand to the Ultravision generator active socket. Then switch on the
Ultravision generator and touch the Ionwand brush to the patient return electrode. The Ultravision
generator proximity alarm (see Table 3) should sound and the ESU should indicate a correctly-congured patient
return electrode.
• Visible damage to the batteries: Remaining capacity can be assessed by rst charging the batteries overnight
and then observing whether they can sustain at least 8 hours’ Ultravision generator operation. If not, they should
be replaced.
Service inspections for the Ultravision generator are described on page 9 and the results of these should be recorded in the
Ultravision Inspection Log on page 14.
A service inspection routine for the battery recharging station is described on page 12 with the corresponding Inspection Log
on page 15 of this service manual.

Replacement items
The following reusable items will require periodic replacement:

The Ultravision generator has four audible indicators that accompany the visual indicators:

The generator sounds the three different tones in sequence when switched on. The volume of these indicators may be
adjusted by twisting the volume control on the rear of the generator. The volume is increased by turning the volume control
clockwise, and reduced by turning anti-clockwise.

Functional Testing
To perform a complete service check of the Ultravision generator you will need the following equipment:
• A fully-charged Ultravision battery
• A digital voltmeter with leads and crocodile clips
• A sheet of metal foil approximately 0.5m x 0.5m in size
• An Ultravision Output Verication Unit (available from your local Alesi distributor)
Perform the following tests in sequence. If any of the tests do not lead to the required result, then consult the next section
“Repair actions”.

fault light state has been assessed.
Must illuminate red transiently.
8Inspect power LED adjacent to On/ Off

green or amber. Red indicates that the
battery being used does not have sufcient
power and should be replaced with a fully-
charged battery before repeating this test
and continuing with steps below.

alarm (repeating pattern of 300ms tone
followed by 6 second pause).
13 Volume control While the proximity alarm is still sounding,
turn the volume control at the rear of the
generator.
Conrm that the volume control rotates and
causes the output volume of the generator
to increase and decrease.
14 Battery release

Switch off the generator by means of the
On/Off switch and push the tab next to the
battery slot on the right hand side of the
generator
Battery should eject from generator.
15 END OF TEST Disconnect the output verication unit from
the generator sockets.
If all of the above test steps have produced
the required result then the generator may
be returned to service.

Enclosure insulation
In order to conrm ongoing electromagnetic compliance (IEC 60601-1-2), the integrity of the enclosure insulation can be
assessed by placing the generator on a sheet of metal foil and measuring the current between the foil and ground when the
generator is switched on using a digital multimeter. When carrying out this test the operator should stand at least two feet
away from the generator to ensure a stable reading. The leakage current reading should not exceed 0.1uA.
Repair actions
The Ultravision system is subject to precise calibration as part of the manufacturing process. All servicing and repairs must
be conducted by the manufacturer so as not to void any warranty or potentially compromise the safety and/or performance
of the device. Do not attempt to open or repair the device.
If any of the inspection methods listed above suggest that the Ultravision or one of its reusable accessories are damaged,
take the generator and/or recharger out of circulation immediately and contact your local distributor to arrange repairs.
In some instances it may be possible to send a replacement part but complex repairs will necessitate the unit being returned
to the manufacturer.
Troubleshooting

Functional Testing
To perform a complete service check of the Ultravision Battery Recharger you will need the following equipment:
• A fully-charged Ultravision battery
• A partially-discharged Ultravision battery

Repair actions
The battery recharger has no user-serviceable parts. If any of the test steps described in the previous section do not produce
the required result, please contact your Alesi distributor to obtain a replacement battery recharger and/or power supply unit.

Portée
Ce manuel et l’équipement qu’il décrit sont destinés à être utilisés par le personnel qualié du service biomédical. Il s’agit
d’un simple guide pour l’entretien technique du système Ultravision d’Alesi.
Ce manuel est un élément additionnel au manuel de l’utilisateur Ultravision. Une bonne compréhension du manuel de
l’utilisateur est nécessaire pour comprendre et utiliser correctement les informations dans ce manuel d’entretien.
Déclaration sur la comptabilité électromagnétique
Le générateur et la station de recharge de batterie Ultravision nécessitent des précautions spéciales concernant la
compatibilité électromagnétique (CEM), et doivent être installés et mis en service conformément aux informations
sur la compatibilité électromagnétique (CEM) fournies au Chapitre 9 du manuel de l’utilisateur. Les équipements de
communication à radiofréquence portables et mobiles RF peuvent inuer sur le générateur et la station de recharge de
batterie Ultravision.

Aucune modication n’est autorisée sur cet équipement.

Informations générales
Indications
Le système Ultravision est recommandé pour le nettoyage de fumée et d’autres particules qui sont créés pendant la
chirurgie laparoscopique.
Contre-indications
Le système Ultravision est un système qui fonctionne à l’énergie électrique qui ne doit pas être utilisé chez les patients
munis d’un stimulateur cardiaque ou d’un débrillateur automatique implantable (DAI).
Description de l’appareil
L’appareil Ultravision est destiné au nettoyage de fumée du champ visuel créée pendant la chirurgie laparoscopique par la
précipitation électrostatique. Les fumées créées pendant la chirurgie sont des particules aqueuses en suspension générées
par un sous-produit de la combustion et d’autres processus associés à l’utilisation d’instruments chirurgicaux basés sur
l’énergie.
Les composants du système Ultravision sont présentés dans le Tableau 1. Ce manuel d’entretien concerne uniquement le
générateur et le chargeur de batterie Ultravision.

Station de recharge de la batterie Chargement de la batterie réutilisable.
Ionwand Fournit l’énergie du générateur qui charge les particules de
fumées de la chirurgie dans la cavité abdominale.
Cathéter Tient l’Ionwand en place lors de la chirurgie.
Trocart Introduction du cathéter dans la cavité abdominale.
Adaptateur de retour patient Fournit une voie de retour commune avec le générateur
électrostatique, ce qui permet de partager une électrode de retour
patient.

Contrôles d’entretien
Le système Ultravision doit être contrôlé au moins une fois par an, quelle que soit son utilisation. Ce contrôle doit inclure les
vérications suivantes :
• Tout dommage visible causé au générateur et à la station de recharge.
• Tout dommage visible causé au câble d’alimentation et à la prise de la station de recharge de la batterie.
• Tout dommage visible causé aux câbles ou connecteurs de l’adaptateur de retour patient. Accouplement
correct entre les adaptateurs de retour patient, le générateur Ultravision et le générateur électrochirurgical.
La fonctionnalité peut être évaluée en connectant une électrode de retour patient sur la prise du générateur
Ultravision et à une prise retour ESU via un câble d’adaptateur de retour patient et un Ionwand sur la prise active
du générateur Ultravision. Allumez ensuite le générateur Ultravision et touchez la brosse Ionwand sur l’électrode
de retour patient. L’alarme de proximité du générateur Ultravision (voir Tableau 3) doit s’enclencher et l’ESU doit
indiquer une électrode de retour patient correctement congurée.
• Tout dommage visible sur les batteries : la charge restante peut être évaluée par un premier chargement des
batteries pendant la nuit, suivi de l’observation pour vérier qu’elles peuvent durer pendant au moins 8 heures
d’opération du générateur Ultravision. Si ce n’est pas le cas, elles doivent être remplacées.
Les inspections d’entretien du générateur Ultravision sont décrites à la page 23 et leurs résultats doivent être enregistrés
dans le registre des inspections Ultravision de la page 28.
Les inspections d’entretien de la station de recharge de la batterie sont décrites à la page 26 et leurs résultats doivent être
enregistrés dans le registre des inspections correspondant de la page 29.

Pièces de rechange
Les pièces réutilisables suivantes nécessiteront un remplacement périodique :
