Network Camera Quick Installation Guide
This document guides you through the basic steps to install and congure the ALI-NS1008HDMI
network dome camera. This camera features:
• 3840 × 2160 @ 20 fps 4K (8MP) maximum resolution progressive scan CMOS sensor
• 2.8mm Lens with horizontal 102° eld of view
• Color: 0.028 lux @ (F2.0, AGC ON), 0 lux with IR
• 100 ft full frame IR
• BLC/3D, DNR / ROI / HLC, H.265, H.264, and 120db wide dynamic range
• Built-in micro SD / SDHC / SDXC card slot Supports capacity up to 128 GB

Step 1. Route wiring to the camera
Interface cables can be routed into the camera through the opening in the mounting plate.
NOTE
When selecting a mounting location for the camera
• Make sure that there are no reective surfaces near to the camera lens. Light from the camera may
bounce back onto the lens causing reections.
• Determine how interface wiring are routed into the camera. The cable can be routed through the
mounting surface and access hole in the mounting plate or through the side inlet.
The camera includes connectors for the following:
• Ethernet (required): The Ethernet drop cable can connect to a LAN extension cable from a
switch or Network Video Recorder. The camera can be powered across the LAN using power over
Ethernet (PoE) injection. See the Specications section at the end of this document for power
requirements. A weatherproof Ethernet Fitting is provided.
• 12 Vdc power input (optional if PoE powered, required if not): Voltage input at the camera
can be within the range 12 Vdc ± 25%. Refer to the Specications section for other power
considerations.
1. Route a LAN extension cable from a network switch or Network Video Recorder to where the
camera will be installed.
2. If the camera is not powered using PoE, route 12 Vdc power cables from an adequate power
source to the location where the camera will be installed. Voltage input at the camera can be
within the range 12 Vdc ± 25%.
Step 2. Remove the dome assembly
To remove the adapter plate:
1. Set the camera base down on a clean surface.
2. Use the security L-wrench provided to fully loosen the two dome assembly screws.
3. Lift the cover up and o the camera base assembly. NOTE: A safety cable on the right side
is used to connect the dome assembly to the base. The safety cable can be disconnected if
necessary.
Step 3. Install a microSD card (optional)
Install a microSD card in the camera to save alarm and status information locally, and to locally save
video and captures les. Refer to the Specications section for storage card requirements. The storage
card can be a
microSD/SDHC/SDXC card, up to 128GB. NOTE: The card can be formatted within the
camera, if necessary.
To install the card, push the microSD card into the slot until it is fully seated, and then release it. When
installed properly, it will slide into the slot smoothly, and be held in place after release.
MicroSD card setup instructions are included in “Step 10. Smart Events setup” on page 6.
4. Install the camera
The camera can be mounted onto a wall or ceiling, or installed using one of the brackets list in the
introduction above.
The mounting surface should support at least four (4) times the weight
of the camera.
The interface cables must be routed through the mounting base. If a junction box is
used, interface cables can be connected to extension cables inside the box.
The camera supports three powering options: Power over Ethernet (PoE), power via a standard 12 Vdc
plug, and two-wire 12 VDC power (with polarity protection).
1. Determine and acquire the best kind if fasteners to secure the camera to the mounting surface.
2. Place the drill template or camera base assembly at the mounting location pointing the FRONT
marking in the direction of the camera eld of view. Mark the location of the holes for the
mounting screws and interface cables.
3. Drill holes in the mounting surface where needed for the fasteners and cable routing.

4. Route extension cables from audio accessories, alarm accessories and power source (if not PoE
powering) to the camera.
5. Connect the audio and alarm extension cables to the audio, alarm and power cable harness
screw-down terminals. Terminal denitions are embossed on the connectors.
6. Route an HDMI extension cable from a local monitor to the camera.
7. Connect the HDMI extension cable to the female end of the HDMI to micro HDMI adapter cable.
8. Route a LAN extension cable to the camera.

9. If powering the camera with a 2-wire 12 Vdc extension cable, connect the wires to the two-
terminal molex connector provided (no polarity), route it into the camera through the mounting
base, and then plug it into the DC12V connecter (see photo on page 1) in the camera.

10. Attach an earth ground cable to the camera ground terminal on the mounting base. See photo
above. Always follow local electrical codes when installing the ground.
11. If powering the camera using a standard 12 Vdc power plug, connect the cable plug into the
power jack on the cable harness.
12. If not powering the camera using a standard 12 Vdc power plug, use the small white cap
provided to seal the power connector on the Audio, Alarm and Power cable harness.

13. Route the camera end of the Audio, Alarm and Power extension cable harness into the camera
through the cable access in the mounting base, and then plug it into the Audio & Alarm
connector in the camera. See photo above.
14. Route the micro HDMI end of the micro HDMI to HDMI adapter cable through the cable access
in the mounting base, and then plug it into the micro HDMI connector in the camera. See photo
on page 1.
15. Route the LAN extension cable through the cable access in the mounting base and plug it into
the RJ-45 connector in the camera. See photo on page 1.
16. Seal all connections from moisture, dust or other contaminants.
WARNING
!
Failure of the power or Ethernet connector due to moisture or another
contaminant is considered an installation error, which voids the warranty. If
installing this camera in a location such as an overhang, shop, garage, kitchen,
etc. where high humidity or dust is present, seal these connections adequately.
17. Anchor the camera to the mounting surface using the fasteners determined above.

18. Apply power to the camera.
Step 4. Install the Alibi Config Tool software
NOTE: If the camera LAN extension cable is attached to a Network Video Recorder (NVR), skip this step.
The Alibi Cong Tool is a PC-based network utility for discovery of Alibi compatible devices. It provides
an easy way to activate devices, congure camera and recorder network conguration settings, and
set device passwords. It can be installed on a Microsoft® Windows® operating system that has direct
access to the network where your Alibi devices are installed. You can download the Alibi Conguration
Tool from AlibiSecurity.com/Resources.
1. Download the Alibi Cong Tool from the AlibiSecurity.com/Resources website. At the time
when this document was published, the le is named: alibi-cong-tool.zip and is about 80MB.
2. Un-zip the le on a computer with Microsoft Windows (Windows 7 or newer) that is connected
to the LAN where your Alibi camera is connected.
3. Run the le contained in the zip le: Alibi Cong Tool.exe. Follow the on-screen instructions
to install the le.
4. Open the Alibi Cong Tool application. When the application opens, it automatically “discovers”
and lists all Alibi compatible devices on the LAN. See below.
NOTE: In the screen above, the tool can discover devices on other subnets. It will also list other
Alibi compatible devices on the LAN, and devices with the address 192.168.1.64 (default address).
Step 5. Activate Inactive Alibi device
NOTE: If the camera LAN extension cable is attached to a Network Video Recorder (NVR), skip this step.
Refer to the documentation available for your NVR rmware for the procedure to activate the camera, if
necessary.
When an Alibi device is rst installed, or reset to its factory conguration, it must be “Activated” before
it can be used. In the Alibi Conguration Tool, “Inactive” devices have a Security status of Inactive,
and an IPv4 address of 192.168.1.64. A device is “Activated” when a password is assigned to the
admin username of the device.
In the example below, an ALI-NS1008HDMI camera is activated and congured for its network. The
procedure is similar for all other Alibi network cameras currently available.
1. Scan through the list of devices the Alibi Cong Tool discovered for the Inactive device you want
to activate (see below). Click on the device in the list to highlight it (here, ID 001), and then click
the select box to check it. See below.

2. Click the Activate button.
3. In the Activate window, enter a (Strong) password for the admin (administrator) username in
the New Password and Conrm Password elds.
4. Click Activate.
CAUTION
If you lose your admin (administrator) password, you cannot congure the device or restore
it to its factory settings. To reset your password, you must reset, and then Activate the
camera.
Notice that although the device is now Active, it retained the default IP address.

Step 6. Edit Network Parameters
NOTE: If the camera LAN extension cable is attached to a Network Video Recorder (NVR), skip this step.
The camera will receive network conguration settings from the NVR. Refer to the documentation for
your NVR rmware for more information.
You can change the network parameters of devices that are active. Network parameters you choose
must be compatible with other devices on your network, and it is preferable to use xed network
parameters.
In the procedure outlined below, we’ll enable DHCP in the camera to acquire network parameters
from a DHCP server that are compatible with other devices on your network. However, DHCP may
change those parameters occasionally, because it is “dynamic”. To avoid this potential problem, in this
procedure, we’ll acquire compatible network settings with DHCP, and then disable DHCP in the camera
to prevent those settings from being changed.
If you have network settings that are compatible, you can simply enter them using the Modify
Network Parameters feature without using DHCP to acquire compatible settings.
1. In the list of devices discovered, click the select box for the device you want to change the
network settings for, and then click Modify Network Parameters. See below.

2. In the popup window, either:
—Edit the current (default) network parameters with parameters that are compatible with
the network. An example is shown below on the right.
- OR -
—Click the DHCP select box to check it. See the menu below on the left.
3. Enter the Admin Password in the eld below, and then click OK.

4. If you used DHCP to acquire network settings, change the dynamic DHCP settings to xed
settings as follows:
a. In the device list, check the select box for the device you just congured.
b. Click the Modify Network Parameters button.
c. In the Modify ... menu, uncheck the DHCP select box, enter the admin password in the
eld below, and then click OK.
5. Close the Alibi Cong Tool.
Step 7. Login to the camera
NOTE: If the camera LAN extension cable is attached to a Network Video Recorder (NVR), skip this step.
Microsoft® IE is used to access your camera remotely. IE must run as an Administrator to use all features
available through a remote login to the camera.

Window 7: To run IE as an Administrator:
1. Find or create an IE icon on your computer desktop.
2. Hold down the shift key, and then right-click on the IE icon.

1. Find MS IE in the start menu. Usually this is found in the Windows Accessories group.
2. Pin the entry to Start.
3. Right click on the Internet Explorer tile, and then select More | Run as administrator.

To login to the camera from a computer on the same LAN:
1. Open your Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) browser on your computer and enter the IP address of
the camera in the URL eld. In the example below, the IP address of the camera determined in
the previous step is 192.168.0.9.
2. In the login window, enter admin for the User Name and the password you created in the
Password eld, the click Login.
3. If this is the rst time you are logging into a camera, you may see the message in the following
screen. If this appears, follow the sub-steps below.

a. Click on the message to install the plugin.
b. In the message bar at the bottom of the screen, click Save.
c. Open the folder where the plugin (WebComponents)was downloaded.
d. If another message appears to use ActiveX controls, click Allow.
e. Close the IE browser.
f. Run the executable le to install WebComponents. When the following screen opens,
click Finish.
4. Open the IE browser again in administrator mode, and log into the camera. A Live View image
from the camera should appear. See below.

Step 8. Adjust camera pan, tilt and rotation
Adjust the camera pan, tilt and rotation to point the camera at your surveillance target. When pointing
the camera, use the Live View display on a recorder or remote login.
1. Remove the black liner. See photo on page 1.
2. To aim the camera at your surveillance target:
a. Adjust the pan: grasp the gimbal assembly on the two tilt lock screws and rotate the
gimbal to point the camera in the direction of your surveillance eld of view.

b. Adjust the tilt:
i. Loosen the tilt lock screws on both sides of the gimbal. See photo on page 1.
ii. Grasp the camera module as shown below and tilt as needed for the image height.

c. Adjust the rotation: If rotation is necessary to adjust the horizontal alignment of the
image, grasp the camera module as shown below. Rotate the module for your preferred
adjustment.

3. Reinstall the black liner.
4. Reinstall the dome assembly.
Step 9. Adjust the camera image for your surveillance target
Use the rmware menus to adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation and sharpness of the video image
if necessary. These settings are initially optimized at the factory and may not need adjustment. When
adjustments are necessary, the paths to the image settings menus are dierent if the camera is installed

as a device on a LAN, or if it is connected to a NVR. Select the installation type below for your camera to
complete this step.
For cameras installed on a LAN
1. If necessary, log into the camera on the LAN with administrative credentials.
2. After adjusting the camera for the a typical eld of view, click the Setup tab, and then click the
Image link in the left frame.
3. Adjust the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness of the image. Each parameter
can be set to a level of 0 ~ 100 either by moving the slider or entering the value in the box on
the right. The eect of the adjustment will appear in the Live View image in the menu.
4. Click the Other submenu at the bottom of the list.
5. Open the drop-down list to select the resolution of the HDMI output (1080p or 720p or OFF).
Refer to the rmware user manual for your camera to use the other submenus on this screen.
For cameras connected directly to an NVR
1. Log into the NVR with administrative privileges.
2. Open the rmware Image menu. Go to Menu | Camera | Display.
3. In the Camera eld drop down list, select the camera you want to congure. In the example
above, [D1]IPCamera 01 is selected.
4. Drag the Brightness, Contrast and Saturation adjustment markers left or right to perfect
the image from the camera. For some adjustments, you can click the up ( 5)or down ( 6)
icons near the adjustment value (on the right side) to incrementally change the value of those
adjustment.
5. Click Apply to save your settings for this camera.
Refer to the rmware user manual for your NVR to use the other submenus on this screen.
NOTE
Cleaning: If cleaning is necessary, use clean cloth with a few drops of ethanol and wipe it gently.
Step 10. Smart Events setup
The camera can internally perform line crossing detection, intrusion detection, region entrance
detection, region exit detection, false alarm reduction by human and vehicle target classication based
on deep learning using the conguration you setup.
You can congure these features in either of two ways, depending on how the camera is connected to
the surveillance system:
• If the camera is connected to the internal Ethernet switch of an NVR, you can congure the
Smart Event features through rmware in the NVR. Refer to the NVR rmware manual for
procedures.
• If the camera is attached directly to an Ethernet network (switch), you can log into the web
interface of the camera and congure these features through the camera’s Conguration menus.
NOTE
When H.265+, three streams or motion detection is enabled, the behavior analyses (including line
crossing detection, intrusion detection, region entrance detection and region exiting detection) are not
supported.
Smart Event setup through the camera web interface
Install a microSD card in the camera
To retain alarm and event information in the camera, you must install a microSD card:
1. Install a microSD card in the camera. See the Specications section at the back of this document
for card type and capacity.
a. Remove the cover on the underside of the camera (see the photo above).
b. Slide a formatted microSD card into the card slot. It should slide in smoothly. Push the card
all the way into the slot, and then release it. The card should latch into place. (To remove
the card, push it all the way in to unlatch it, and then release it.)
c. Reinstall the maintenance panel cover.
2. Log into the camera using credentials with administrative privileges. See “Step 7. Login to the
camera” on page 4.
3. Setup the microSD card:
a. The microSD card may need to be initialized before it can be used to record data. Click the
Setup tab, then click the Storage link in the left frame. Click Storage Management in
the list that opens. See below.

b. Find the card you installed in the HDD Management list, and then check the Status. If the
status is not Normal, or you want to clear all data from the card, check the select box for
then card and then click Format. Allow the operation to complete before continuing.
c. Adjust the percentage of the card you want to use for pictures (captures) and recordings,
if necessary.
Setup the Record Schedule
To setup the camera to record Smart events, setup the record schedule to record events. To setup the
Storage Schedule:
1. Click Storage Settings under Storage in the left frame.

2. To congure the Storage Settings menu for events only:
a. Click the Enable select box to check it, if necessary.
b. Click the Deselect All button if any colored bars are on the calendar.
c. Open the Continuous / Events drop-down list and select box below the Enable checkbox,
and then select Event.
d. Right click on one of the days to open a pop-up menu.
e. Open the drop-down list at the top of the popup menu, and then select the type of event
you want to apply to the schedule. Adjust the time span in the same menu as needed, and
then click Save.
f. To copy this setting you made for one day to other days of the week, place the mouse
cursor over schedule you want to copy, and then click the green icon to the right end of
the day.
g. In the popup menu, select the days you want to copy the schedule to, and then click OK.
h. Add additional recording events as needed. You cannot assign two event types to the
same time segment.
i. Click the Advanced button above the calendar. In this menu, you can
Check the Overwrite select box to write newer data across old date when the card
becomes full.
Select the pre-record and post-record time. These options will save video beginning
at the time “pre-” time increment selected before the event occurs, until after the “post-”
time increment after the event occurs.
You can also select the stream you want to record.
j. Click OK to save your selections in the Advanced menu.
k. Click the Save button at the bottom of the menu to retain your settings.
Scene Change Detection Smart Event setup
Scene change detection feature detects the change of surveillance eld of view aected by the external
factors such as the intentional rotation of the camera. This alarm can trigger actions performed by the
camera to report and record the alarm information.
1. Open the Scene Change Detection settings menu.
Go to Setup | Event | Smart Event | Scene Change Detection
2. Check the Enable select box to enable the feature.
3. Click-and-drag the slider to set the detection Sensitivity. The sensitivity value ranges from 1 to
100. The higher the sensitivity value, the more readily a change of scene can trigger an alarm.
4. Click Arming Schedule to set the time when this feature will be detected. By default, the
feature is always armed when enabled. To create a custom arming schedule:
—To clear the arming schedule for a day of the week, click on the colored bar for that day,
and then click Delete in the popup menu.
—To set an arming schedule for a period of a day that is clear, drag the cursor across the
period of the day you want to arm, and then click OK in the popup menu.
—To copy the arming schedule for one day of the week to other days, place the cursor over
the day you want to copy, then click the green icon that appears to the right. Select the
days you want to copy the schedule to, and then click OK.
—Click the Save button to retain your settings.
5. Click Linkage Method to select the linkage methods options menu.
To congure the Linkage Methods menu, check the select boxes for the options you want to use.
6. Click the Save button to retain your settings.
Face Detection Smart Event setup
The Face Detection Smart Event detects faces anywhere in the video stream. This feature is congured
very similar to the Scene Change Smart Event. Refer to the instructions in that sub-step for more
information.
Face detection provides two modes for detecting faces:
—Face detection: Check this select box to enable the face detection feature.
—Dynamic Analysis for Face Detection: Check this select box to mark a face detected
in the live view screen with green rectangle.
Intrusion Detection Smart Event setup
Intrusion detection feature detects objects which enter and loiter in a pre-dened virtual region. This
feature can be used to create a detection region where the an event is triggered when the object in the
region is larger then a minimum size and smaller than a maximum size and remains there for at least
a preset time. This event can trigger actions performed by the camera to report and record the alarm
information.
1. Open the Intrusion Detection settings menu.

2. Check the Enable select box to enable the feature.
3. Select the region number from the drop-down to select the detection area you want to
congure. You can congure up to four (4) regions.
4. To create a detection region where an alarm is triggered when a percentage of the region is
lled:
a. Click the Detection Area button.
b. Click a point on the screen to set one corner of the detection region, and then click three
more points in a circular fashion to set three other corners of the detection region. A
quadrilateral will appear that is tinted yellow. See above.
5. Set the maximum and minimum size of objects to detect:
a. Click the Max. Size button, and then drag a rectangle across the video image to
represent the maximum size of objects to detect. The rectangle will be labeled with Max.
b. Click the Min. Size button, and then drag a rectangle across the video image to represent
the minimum size of objects to detect. The rectangle will be labeled with Min.
c. Set the following options:
Threshold: Range [0-10]s, the threshold for the time of the object loitering in the region.
If you set the value as 0, alarm is triggered immediately after the object entering the
region.
Sensitivity: Range [1-100]. The value of the sensitivity denes the size of the object
which can trigger the alarm. When the sensitivity is high, a very small object can trigger
the alarm.
6. Click the Save button to retain your settings.
7. Click the Arming Schedule tab. To congure the schedule, refer to “Scene Change Detection
Smart Event setup” on page 7.
8. Click the Linkage Method tab. To congure the Linkage Methods menu, check the select
boxes for the actions you want the camera to perform when the event occurs.
9. Click the Save button to retain your settings.
Line Crossing Detection Smart Event setup
Line crossing detection feature detects objects which cross a pre-dened virtual line. You can congure
the minimum (Min) and maximum (Max) size of the object that crosses the line, and position the line
anywhere and at any angle in video stream. Also you can detect when the object crosses the line from
just one direction or the other direction, or detect when it crosses from either direction. This alarm can
trigger actions performed by the camera to report and record the alarm information.
1. Open the Line Crossing Detection settings menu.
Go to Setup | Event | Smart Event | Line Crossing Detection
2. Check the Enable select box to enable the feature.
3. Select a Line number from the drop-down. You can congure up to four (4) lines.
4. To setup a line:
a. Click the Detection Area button. A virtual line will appear on the video image.
b. Drag the ends of the line to change the angle, and drag the body of the line to change the
position in the video.
5. Set the maximum and minimum size of objects to detect:
a. Click the Max. Size button, and then drag a rectangle across the video image to
represent the maximum size of objects to detect. The rectangle will be labeled with Max.
b. Click the Min. Size button, and then drag a rectangle across the video image to represent
the minimum size of objects to detect. The rectangle will be labeled with Min.
6. Set the following options:
a. Open the Direction drop down list and select the direction of line crossing detection to
detect. For example, A->B means only object crossing the line from the A side to the B
side can be detected. The A and B sides of the line are shown on the video image.
b. Set the Sensitivity value as needed. Sensitivity represents the percentage of the
body part of an acceptable target that crosses the pre-dened line. For example, if the

Unattended Baggage Detection Smart Event setup
Use Unattended baggage detection to detect when objects such as baggage, a purse, dangerous
materials, etc. are left in the pre-dened area of the eld of view. You can set the Sensitivity for
detecting objects, and the time the object remains in the detection area.
This feature is congured nearly identical to the way Intrusion Detection is congured, with the
exception that the Threshold time can be much longer. Refer to “Intrusion Detection Smart Event setup”
on page 7.
Object Removal Detection Smart Event setup
Use Object removal detection to detects when an object, such as an exhibit on display, is removed from
the pre-dened area of the eld of view.
This feature is congured nearly identical to the way Intrusion Detection or Unattended Baggage
is congured, with the exception that the Threshold time can be much longer. Refer to “Intrusion
Detection Smart Event setup” on page 7.
