Tool list for assembling the rack
All tools are SAE US standard tools
1. 15/16 inch (quantity of two)
2. 9/16 wrench or rachet (two)
3. 7/16 wrench for set screw jam
nuts
4. 5/32 Allen key is included with
your rack OR
Two crescent wrenches

Step one- Latch assembly
•The hardware provided is 3/8 inch, bolts, nut,
washers, and lock washer
•The latch is installed on the vertical beam
opposite side of the ALTA RACKS sticker close
to the bottom pivot
•Look for three holes (1) on the side of beam
•The latch is installed on the outside hole
•Using a 9/16 wrench and ratchet, or crescent
wrench
•Install the hardware as shown but do not
tighten

Step two-Hitch assembly
installation
•Align the vertical beam pivot point (1) with hitch pivot
point (2) and interior plate
•Drop the main beam in to the round grove of the
interior plate and align with holes on the receiver
hitch.

•Install the 5/8 bolt wit h washer on one side and
washer and lock washer with nut on the other side(3)
•Using two 15/16 wrench or two crescent wrench
tighten the main pivot bolt and nut.
•Tighten until you meet major resistance, this is
adjustable, and can be tightened further once
installed
Step Three- latch tension
adjustment
•Flip the assembled part around and close
the main beam to engage the latch
•At this point the latch may or may not
engage fully
•Using the 5/32 Allen key provided with your
parts adjust the set blots (1)
•The latch assembly mounting holes are oval
in shape, this is to allow for forward and
back movement to adjust the tension
•Once the desired tension is achieved tighten
the two bolts (2) until the latch assembly is
secure.
•Using a adjustable wrench tighten the jam
nuts on the set bolt to secure the location

•Test the latch assembly multiple times to
ensure correct locking

OUTER Safety Pins (OSP)
assembly
Your rack will come with two OSPs.
they are both 5/8 in diameter
•The colored pin is to be installed closest to
the main vertical beam
•The bolt with rubber housing is installed
where the nut is welded on the receiver
hitch
•To lower the rack remove the orange pin
and dis-engage the latch
•The rubber housing will protect the main
beam and is a good way to carry the rack as
well
•NEVER OPERATE THE RACK WITHOUT THE
OSPs INSTALLED
•DO NOT USE THE OSP AS A HITCH PIN, it is
not rated for hitch use.
Step four- Vehicle
installation
•Assemble the anti-sway unit and slide on to the receiver hitch as shown (1), this unit can be facing up or down. It
depends on clearance. Some bumpers interfere with the nuts pointing up
•Insert assembled section in to your vehicle hitch (2)
•Align the anti-sway unit as shown (3)
•Using a ¾ inch driver or wrench, or crescent wrench Gorilla tighten the anti sway (4)
•Gorilla tighten is a technical term meaning tighten the unit, till there is absolutely no movement in the rack or
hitch. The anti sway should be checked every once a while, and re-tightened if required

Step five- Top Horizontal
bar installation
•Tools-9/16
•The top horizontal bar is installed towards the vehicle (1)
•The mounting bracket points down (2)
•Secure the 3/8 bolts, nuts, and washers and tighten until
there is no movement in the bar (3)
•There are three positions available for top bar assembly,
middle position will fit majority of the bikes. for smaller bikes
move bar down, low riding vehicle move bar to the top hole

Step six- lower horizontal
bar assembly
•Tools 9/16
•Install on the opposite side of the latch (1)
•The bar will be on the lower portion of the
bracket (2)
•Tighten single bolt
•There may be a little play in this bar
•The lower bar is not a structural bar and is
design to bend on impact
•DO NOT TIE DOWN TO VEHICLE FROM
LOWER BAR
•The end points with hole are for strap
storage purposes only

Installing the baskets and
bottom sliders
Slide the baskets on to the top bar one at a time and install tightener knobs, separate about 7 inches
apart. Separation is based on bike size and fit. Baskets lean to the left, load bike from right to left.
Slide the bottom sliders on to the
bottom horizontal bar, for shorter
wheelbase bikes point strap up ward.
Point of contact should be about the
center of the rear wheel. Tighten to
secure, use the voile straps to secure
front and rear wheel
ALTA SIX GPR
Operation
•Power straps on top and bottom need to be secured around the
wheels and locked prior to operation of the rack
•Antisway must be installed and fully secure, with no play in that
area, operation of the rack without the anti-sway unit shall void
your warranty. You will damage the rack and your bikes.
•Engage the brakes on the bikes with the brake engagement bands
provided. Wrap around handle bar and brake lever
•Always cluster bikes around the center beam if you are not
carrying six bikes.
•For five bikes best balance. start from right an load left, skip
the basket from last on the left and use the last basket on the
left.
•Load the heavier bikes toward the center of the rack for best
weight distribution
•For four bikes- start from furthest right basket and skip every
other basket.
•Road bikes and mountain bikes combination may limit the
number of bikes below six
•Bottom horizontal bar is not an structural bar and will bend if
force is applied
•Do not strap to vehicle using the bottom horizontal bar
•The eyelid for the bottom bar are for strap storage
